The only thing that prevented it from being perfect is that the guy who point the people where to sit made me sit with my back to the pilot, and although I told him that I prefer to sit facing the pilot he told me it cannot be done ;( The pilot is an awesome guy will take the time and explain to you about everything you see. I booked a night, helicopter tour of New York City for my girlfriend's birthday and brought two additional friends as well. The helicopter flight itself was good. The pilot kept us safe and was informative for the flight. The staff on the ground were good as well, friendly and helpful. Where this place lost all their points is how they Have horrible policies when it comes to payment and cancellations. They say you can't cancel during blackout dates and it turns out, their blackout dates are the majority of the year! I had booked with another helicopter company, but decided to switch for unrelated reasons. That company gave up until 24 hours before the flight to cancel for a full refund. I assumed this company would offer the same or similar policy. Not only did they not let me cancel and rebook when I had an issue, they of course told me I booked during a blackout date so the best I could do is get a credit. They also would not apply a 10% discount that I tried to apply when I booked the flight. When I called them about it, they basically just said no! There are other helicopter tour companies, I would recommend going with a different one! read more

We booked our tour and we're excited about the adventure of seeing the city by helicopter. The night before our trip I got a late message advising me the city was not allowing flights that day and to call them to go over options. THEY SHOULD HAVE CALLED ME!!! I called in the morning and was told they were still able to leave from New Jersey, and if we wanted to go on the trip we had to travel and leave from the NJ. They told me the trip from NJ is longer and more expensive but they would not charge me more. They also offered a free shirt for each of us. A full refund was also offered. We wanted to go on the trip so we took a train from PENN Station to NJ. It took up much more of our day than originally planned as a result. Somehow I think this happens to them A LOT and they should let people know this might happen when tickets are purchased. The helicopter ride itself was a lot of fun and a neat experience. Don't do with your family or as a couple - we paid $1500 for a family of four to have a family adventure as a Christmas present. We were herded line cattle and treated rudely like crud. They grouped us as a family of 4 with a couple. They then wanted to put me up front with the pilot. I said no so they then wanted to stick my husband there. When asked if everything was ok, I said " no. I'd like to be with my family". They got nasty and said "do you want off" and I asked if it was possible to be together as a family if we got off. The guy was a jerk and basically was just saying " deal or get off". One of the couple said they'd go to the front and I said "I don't want you to be separated either". The jerk operator then insisted declaring to me "you created this problem". The girlfriend was then upset too to be separated. The whole $1500 Christmas present was ruined by the total a- holes. They have awesome helicopters, with plenty of windows. The curve of the side where it meets the floor was also done in glass! We got lucky and got to sit on the right side as they flew us up the Hudson so we got some amazing view of NY and we even got fairly close to the Lady Liberty too! Beware when buying this as a gift for clients or family! HeliNY then asks them to pay additional fees, because when you buy a gift certificate you supposedly aren't buying the experience but just the cash value and then they add on additional fees/charges. Firstly, very embarrassing to give this as gift to clients and then have them tell me they were asked to pay. Secondly, management didn't do much to help situation even though there is nothing on my receipt or their website that specifies this. I am super afraid of heights and planes. But I push myself often for the experience. I am so happy I did this. I booked it for a birthday gift and had second thoughts the night before but was worth it. Everyone who worked there from start to finish was professional , friendly and had some personality to them and wasn't so serious and scripted which I liked. We got to see such amazing views. I did expect a bit more of a tour and pointing out a few things (I know most things because I'm front NY but for others I think it would have been nice) I was most nervous about take off and landing and that was so easy and better than a plane I thought. I am deathly afraid of heights..I did this for my wife..I surprised her with a heli tour of The Big Apple for our anniversary and I am sure glad I manned up..There were a few other copter tour companies to choose from at the pier but I paid a little more for HFS and it was well worth it..I mean I had too..For the newer model copters with larger windows (which was perfect for photo opportunities), and the luxurious interior, why the hell not..It's not like we do this often..As we entered the heli pad building, (initially told wife we're just getting closer to take pictures with the copters), my wife was in tears from her surprise as we signed in our reservation..Nicholas Sparks and Christian Grey has nothing on me homie, and besides, I'm a real life character.. At any rate, the service provided by the staff and pilot was by far, exceptional to the first degree..The workers spoke to me like a human being and we all actually spent some time joking about my football team (RaiderNation, The Original)..I was shown so much love by the staffs and pilot, it actually made me felt like family in a way..We were offered front pilot seating which my wife and I declined opting not to exacerbated my fears of height but I did appreciated the gesture.. This was recommended to us both by Yelp and the concierge at our hotel as being the best service in Manhattan. We booked the day before our flight with the front desk at the hotel and paid a deposit. We were told to arrive at a certain time the next day, which we did. We were greeted at the door and shown into the terminal. The terminal building is shared between a number of companies all operating their own helicopters. I think you can tell a lot by the appearance of the respective companies' areas in the terminal. Helicopter Flight Services appeared to be the most professional and up-market outfit, with large flat screen televisions for the flight safety briefing. After a short safety demonstration, we were taken out to our helicopter - a new Bell with huge panoramic windows. A photo opportunity is offered as you board the helicopter, but the photo must be purchased (I would never be interested in this sort of thing, luckily there was no hard sell as in other touristy places). We boarded the chopper and took off for a great 20 minute tour of the west side of Manhattan, Governor's Island, Ellis Island and Liberty Island. Our pilot was very professional and kept up a basic running commentary throughout the trip. All in all, this was an excellent experience. For anyone looking to take a helicopter tour in New York, I would recommend this company very highly. Just looking at the helicopters being used by other companies made me glad that we booked with them (others had small windows, smaller cabins and looked older). PROS: -very fast service, they check everyone bags, they sit you in the helicopter by your weight, they give detailed instructions before the flight, and the pilot is very informative. CONS: -dont bring large bags (bc the lockers are small- but free!), very pricey ($188 per person), 1 picture of you will cost you $20 or $30 with a flashdrive. Do not take a helicopter tour. It's not worth it. As another reviewer said, go see a broadway show. If you sit in the front seat, you get an almost 180 degree view. If in the back next to the window, somewhat less. I was in the back middle (4 seats in each row), which provides about a 30 degree view. It was not only unemployable, it was stressful trying to see what the pilot was describing while looking past two other people, through such a tiny area of visibility. It's irresponsible that they don't take this into account in their pricing. There's too large a variation in experience to leave it to chance and seat people randomly. It was worth 5% the value of a private helicopter ride we took in Kauai (2 seats in each row, doors off), and cost about the same per person. read more

Unless you want an assembly line, canned narration "DELUXE" tour do not waste your money. My 2 small dogs could give you a better tour. The pilots pointed out nothing. When the canned narration was talking about the freedom tower we were past Central Park. When it spoke of Central Part we were past the George Washington Bridge. I couldn't take a picture or any decent video from where they sat me. Take your money & go to a Broadway show instead. I guarantee you will have a better time.
