We just had Helix paint our 10 year old home that had huge fading issues thanks to the poor paint that was used originally. Helix gave us a GREAT price that beat its competitors AND they did a perfect job! The paint crew took 3 days. The first day, there was an incident where the wrong color was being used on the stucco. (The paint sheet from our builder was pretty chaotic.) it set us back a few hours, but Helix took full responsibility and fixed the issue perfectly. The painters were all really nice and their attention to detail was astonishing. They spent half of Saturday just doing touch-ups under the roof, an area maybe nobody would ever see, but they did it all without a flaw. Just had to take a few minutes to tell everyone about how outstanding our experience was with Helix painting. First our project manager Lex was great he gave us an estimate and added his knowledge about the best way to get our deck stained and sealed and we where have a fence on one side of our house that we split with our neighbor, and he gave us an estimate on that and we agreed we should do them both at the same time. It was 2 months later before we had the fence done so we then called Lex and he set us up within days of that. Then when he came out to do the prep and confirm the color, he also offered to replace some of our warped boards on the deck and said we would only pay for the wood. I used Helix painting last year to paint my house and repair siding. I selected the highest package available at a cost of plus $6,000. The sales rep and office staff promised the moon while the sub-contractor delivered dirt. Found out that none of the people who actually perform the work are employees. They are all third party's and subs. The original subcontractors that did the work did not protect any of my belongings causing paint overspray on everything. They did not clean prior to painting so now I have bare spots and painted cobwebs. The incorrect caulk was used and is now peeling off. My house numbers and front door weather strip went "missing" and the list could go on. Save your money and find your own subcontractor. read more

MEH (Mixed Experience with Helix) I hired Helix twice to do some interior painting on my house. The first time - complete interior repaint including trim - went pretty well. There were some small things and touchups they had to come back for but overall a good price to value ratio. Not fantastic but not terrible for the money. The second time -painting new trim, doors, and walls in a few rooms- was a total debacle. They sent a different crew this time and they must have been new to painting because had no idea what they were doing -didn't press their tape lines down, got overspray on my brand new floors, chunks of paint on the new doors, missed spots, used the wrong color, etc. The foreman just dropped these two guys off and left for the entire day as well. I had to have them out three times to try to fix all the things and some things just couldn't be remedied, like the paint lines on the floors along the baseboards and uneven finish on the doors. Additionally, and most irritating, rather than admit the obvious -the crew was incompetent- and take responsibility, they tried giving me a list of excuses like it was "normal" or "already like that" (on new floors!), etc., even when the comparable areas on their own previous job had none of the same problems. In the end I sorta expected that they would just eat the job and not charge me full price for the headache and hassle, but oh no, they demanded full payment regardless before they would leave the last time, which I gave them just to put an end to it all. If you decide to hire these guys, make sure you get one of the good crews, although I wouldn't chance it again. read more

We recently renovated the main floor of our home and dealt with a number of contractors. Helix was the worst experience for us. I'm not sure how they structure their business, but the crew showed up in a van labeled 2MV Painting. We were charged over $17,000 for about a 2000 sq ft space, including walls, ceilings, trim, doors and kitchen cabinets. It also included around 20 dry wall repairs. The crew completed the job in 6 days and we thought the results were sloppy. They painted a door they weren't supposed to, initially failed to open our windows to properly paint the trim, and didn't remove most door handles, leaving small rings of paint around them. We are also still catching areas with visible paint drips. We were most upset that areas of walls were still damaged or lacked texture. When we asked about it, we were first told it wasn't covered by our estimate and would cost more. We also saw areas of our cabinets where the team didn't sand down bumps to make them flush before spraying. Apparently, that would have also incurred another charge, as their cabinet prep doesn't include palm sanding/bondo. I'll give them an extra star because I thought their owner Vanessa was understanding and responsive to our concerns, and she agreed to have the team touch everything up without additional cost. Still, it's hard to believe this would have been a nearly $20,000 paint job if we had known about all of this upfront. Despite their customer service efforts, I wouldn't use them again. read more

After getting burned by a painting company a few years back, I was extremely hesitant to invite anyone from the outside world into my home to paint again. With a pandemic going on out there, the anxiety was compounded. However, if you saw the guest room that my husband and I DIY'd, you'd understand why we wanted to hire experts. I'm currently in the process of redesigning my basement home office and needed more than a fresh coat of paint, too. Specifically, I needed someone who could paint *and* skim coat a wall to prep for wallpaper. Since I had used Yelp's Request a Quote feature to find just the right business to get the job done, Helix and several other vendors offered to come by for a free estimate; though it must be noted that most of the businesses with whom I spoke either did painting or drywall/skim coating. Not both. It was really only Helix and three other vendors who were able and willing to consider the job. The reason I chose this particular business was the professional communication through Yelp that also includes a photo of the business owner. Jared came by and gave a COVID-safe estimate. Because they have a minimum requirement for jobs, he suggested we add on a small job - painting the red brick fireplace in our basement rec room. So, for skim coating and painting my office, they also painted the fireplace. The total was $975 and included supplies. I was really pleased with Tony, who managed the project, as well as his crew that came out for a day to get the job done. They wore masks, kept everything clean and were extremely polite/personable. They even sent out a guy a few days after the job was done to patch up some rough spots on the skim coated wall, no extra charge. I don't want to be late getting back to work. The woman on the phone was polite but said she didn't have me down? Did I still want their services? We used Helix for a fairly big painting job including ceilings in our basement and a color match in our master bedroom, which turned out perfect. The finished work looks great and we will probably use helix again for future painting needs. Our only complaint was communication during the process. Our project manager unfortunately got covid at the start of the project and we were a little confused if we should reach out to him still or the sub contractor (who didn't always respond) to address concerns we had at the time. We were a little confused why another project manager wasn't put on the job but our project manager did the best he could to help us. Our existing trim was decades old, showing numerous signs of wear and tear and layers upon layers of old varnish, so we knew we needed to paint from top to bottom. I initially found Brandon on Thumbtack, who provided a solid quote for the work, and was up front with us about any potential cost changes. He was also the only contractor to follow up several times from my Thumbtack request, and was quick to answer any of my questions and schedule an initial walk-through. I asked for assistance the day of painting and the day after. Problems getting things done correctly and communicating with painters. The front door has bubbles, nail holes not repaired, trash left in the yard, broken items and they continually no-show appointments. There are so many good contractors but this isn't one. read more

We just completed our Kitchen cabinet and walls project with Helix. It was a perfectly planned, communicated and executed job from start to finish. The estimate process with Kevin was friendly and informative and he answered all our questions. The visit from their free color specialist was equally informative and helpful. Project manager Lex was similarly patient with questions and understood our desire for perfection. He was there at the start of the project to make sure that we and the crew agreed on every detail and plan, and he came back each day to check on things and even help out the crew with finishing projects. Our crew with Sochi was amazing, showed up exactly on time, worked non-stop, answered questions and was clearly committed to doing it perfectly with no shortcuts. We were amazed how much time was spent in the prep work with taping off lines, protecting floors and appliances and counters, etc., but it all paid off with perfect paint and edges with zero minor damage or paint on areas it was not supposed to be. I am a perfectionist and stressed about this project, not knowing if Helix and their crew would match my expectations but they truly exceeded them, and that is hard to do. On the last day, they were on hands and knees inspecting every inch of the job to see what needed to have touch up or more paint or whatever needed done. Anything that I noticed was already marked and noticed by the team so by the time they were done and I did my final walk-through I actually had complete confidence I would find no issues as I had watched them for days making sure every inch was perfect. I was so, so happy with having my kitchen cabinets painted with Helix! Online quote: I provided a couple pictures of the kitchen via Yelp and they were able to give me a loose estimate, whereas other companies insisted they could not even give me a range without seeing the kitchen in person. In person quote: They arrived on time and gave me a more specific quote that was very reasonably close to the online quote. They were also able to start the project the very next day!! Painting: Michael and his team were reliable, friendly, and paid great attention to detail. It is clear that Michael takes great pride in his work! They even came in a foot of snow to keep the project going, which I absolutely did not expect. It looks wonderful and I'm so excited how it has modernized the look of our kitchen! The only thing I would do differently would be to use semi gloss paint instead of satin. Between toddlers, a dog and my clumsy self any level of added toughness in the paint would give me peace of mind, even though everything is holding up really well so far. But that was my choice, not a reflection of Helix. Communication: everyone was wonderful about letting me know the progress of the project and make sure I was happy throughout. Follow-up: I had a few areas of minor chipping in the first couple days before the paint had fully set. I let the team know and they were there within a matter of hours to evaluate and repair. Since those initial spots were fixed and the paint has fully cured we have not had any problem at all. We found them to have competitive pricing and a paint crew that was hard working (7am - 6pm most every day) and did a great job. Due to some needed stucco repair, which took longer to complete given the challenges of getting someone on site during the "stay at home" orders related to CV19, we had to postpone our originally scheduled date (week) by about a month, which we were able to do without issue.
