Our server took our order correctly, she was patient with us; as it was our first visit. The food didn't take long to arrive. The barbecue sauce was well balanced between sweet and acidic with a light bit of smoke flavor. My chicken 1/4 was delicious, the white meat wasn't dry at all. The Pit Master did a great job of seasoning the meat before it hit the grill. My potatoe salad had a bit of an acidic twang, but it wasn't bad. Growing up around the Texas BBQ belt, I know a thing or two about good BBQ. Stopped in and ate inside, with some of the friendliest service I've had in quite awhile, a charm of small town living. Free parking, very friendly atmosphere and great "home style" meat. I say home style because it is kind of like eating at your uncles house on Saturday evening. Sometimes you get all of the best to be found delicious meat, and sometimes you get stuck with the scraps. Nothing wrong with the scraps! They are always delicious too. Ribs are five stars!!! Best we have ever had. The bbq sauce is great. Homemade and unique. Brisket is fantastic. The links are good. The chicken was a bit dry. The sides are not great. Coleslaw is too sweet. Even the potato salad was a bit too sweet. The beans are more Texas style I suppose. They taste like chili powder is in them. They are ok just not what we are used to. Hands down the best meal I've had in Hemphill and the surrounding area. Placed an order to-go for lunch that consisted of 1/2 a chicken, 2lbs of ribs, beans, chocolate pie and 2 drinks and everything was delicious. My order was ready for me when I arrived to pick it up and they didn't make the sweet teas til' I got there so they weren't watered down. Customer service was top notch as well. The place itself is pretty small but it looked like there was some seating in the back too. The ribs were phenomenal! They were cooked perfectly and what ever they used to season them was awesome. Same with the chicken, it was nice and juicy! The beans kind of tasted like chili beans (if that makes sense) they were a great choice for a side dish. Our order also came with bbq sauce. And if you like pie save some room because you'll definitely want to try a slice. My husband and I ate our lunch and were full and had lots of left overs. The funky little side of the road joint. Inside is clean with lots of cool stuff on the walls and a super chill vibe. Friendly staff and the owner Larry is a hoot! I got the 2 meat special with potato salad and cole slaw. The meats were flavorful but a little dry. This might be because we were there so late. We showed up at 7:00 and they close at 8. The sides were delicious. Cole slaw was my favorite kind- not a lot of mayo and a little sweet. Husband got the ribs, and they were AMAZING!!! Best I've ever had! So juicy, tender, and flavorful. Lots of other people were ordering the sandwiches. The potatoes were popular, but they had sold out. We got pie for dessert. Definitely get the pie! We had coconut cream meringue and buttermilk. It does not look like much from the outside and it does not look like much from the inside. The looks are deceiving. They serve the best BBQ in East Texas, hands down. Other places are good, some are really good, but nowhere tastes as good as this place. Why believe me? I know what I'm talking about when it comes to food; that's why. As Stubb said, "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm a cook." I love creating good food almost as much as I love eating it. I've lived all over the country and I've tasted just about every kind of BBQ there is (most other foods too). Try the sliced brisket, chopped brisket, turkey, chicken, or pork... you will like it all. The pit master must be a wizard. Charles (the owner) will probably come to your table to see how you liked his food. This is one of those unique businesses where the product comes first. It shows and it makes a difference. Mr. Weaver cares about putting enough delicious food on your plate to make you happy and full, then he'll let you leave. The only negative I have found is the sauce. It's good sauce, just not entirely to my taste. Even half-decent sauce can't budge that fifth star with meat as good as theirs. Try the Mild Topper (It's not on the menu). How the hell did a big-city blue state liberal feminist godless heathen like me end up at a place like this -- a shack way out in the swampy woods on the Texas-Louisiana border, covered in the 10 Commandments on the outside and full of Duck Dynasty types on the inside??? Well, I was driving thru the woods one night in a rented RV, on a cross-country roadtrip with a friend of mine en route from Las Vegas, NV to Daytona, FL by way of Little Rock, AR. Confused? Good, then you understand how I felt. Though it was already getting dark and we hadn't found our campsite yet, and though there is ZERO cell service in the area, we stopped off here real quik to get some food to-go. BOY AM I GLAD WE DID! I'm not even a barbecue fan, but this was without question the best BBQ I've ever had -- and one of the best meals of any kind, period! The folksy folk inside were all real friendly, except for the cashier, who cast a baleful eye at me like a suspicious manatee that don't take kindly to foreigners. As a result, it was fairly awkward sitting in the tiny restaurant waiting for our food, since my friend and I were so very obviously out of place....but like I said, most everyone else (especially the waitress) was super friendly. And the food, OMG!!!! It was totally worth it! I had the 2-meat plate, with links and beef, plus coleslaw and beans. IT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!! I'd abide by a THOUSAND Commandments if it meant eating this kind of grub every day. We even shared a piece of pie for dessert...also amazing. Everything seemed homemade and fresh....but the real winner was the BBQ. I loved the sauce, and the meat was just as tender and flavorful as the other reviewers say.
