My first visit to the night market this evening for dinner and I was happy to see a good crowd -…read moremostly lots of families from tots to teens - so much so that all the seats were taken inside the hall; so we joined the 'others', spilling out onto the grassy patch to the side of the community centre, all the park benches scattered around the place also had firmly planted bottoms. We tried the freshly squeezed juice as a thirst quencher, was delicious, and only $5 since it was their first time at the market, which by the way started in June. To eat, was also a first-time-stall-holder, a large plate of falafels, with homemade dips, soft cheese, ample ample olives, flat bread, small cheese filled capsicums, dolmades and probably some other tasty portions I have lost in my memory and digestive tract, all for just $7! He was also selling lots of the marinated goodies in little take away containers and had baklava which we were going to try, but ended up opting for the juice instead. There was a variety of different types of food ethnicities to sample and a coffee stall and home made fudge to end the meal nicely if you wished - bon apetite!

It wasn't until last year that I actually found out the answer to my question. YES. The food from this weird van in the middle of the Video Ezy carpark is delicious. Like most kebab stops, Delicious Turkish Style Foods offers lamb, beef, chicken and falafel kebabs, as well as rice dishes, salads, burgers and an array of sides including chips and Turkish garlic bread. Unlike most kebab stores however, this van also has pieces of fish, onion rings, and milkshakes available. All the food prepared in the Delicious Turkish Style Foods van is Halal and all the salads always look fresh, crisp and delicious. If you're in the mood for something Turkish, stop by the little icon of a van in Mt Albert and try some food from Delicious Turkish Style Foods, you won't be disappointed!

I have this preconception, and I'm guessing I'm not the only one, that any food sold out of a…read morecaravan is inevitably greasy, stodgy, and riddled with diarrhoea-inducing germs. I don't know why I have this idea - probably from British television, where everything sold out of a cart is grey and comes with peas. It's not fair though, because in real life my experiences have all been positive. White Lady is fine if a little overpriced, and this place is actually pretty good. If you ignore the fact that it's a caravan this could be any Turkish takeaway, and it'd be quite a bit better than a few I've tried. And once you accept that the food isn't full of botulism the fact that it is a caravan gives the place a certain roguish charm. I haven't tried their burgers (call me a traditionalist) but you can't go past a kebab and chips on your way home from the video shop.

And best of all, this is a perfect example of getting your monies worth - while it's cheap, the food at Martin's is delicious too. Never greasy and soft, their chips are always crisp and crunchy, their fritters never oily and their spring rolls fresh - it's a great wee takeaway store tucked in the back streets of Mt Albert! While undoubtedly great value, Martin Takeaways offer great specials too. Deals like an egg burger, fish, hot dog, potato fritter and chips for $8.50, and two cans of fizzy drink for $3 are readily available and are brilliant value for money. The family that run this Chinese takeaway and fish and chip store are really friendly and recognise you as being a local which is always nice. Really, the only negative I can think of about Martin Takeaways is that their magazines are pretty out of date, so there isn't much to do while you wait for your food. But hey, if that's as bad as it gets who cares - the food is so good you'll soon forget about the old gossip mags!

That is an extreme statement, but I stand by it. The staff in this place are incredibly friendly; make an effort to use your name (they take it when you order then actually use it when asking you questions); take major care when it comes to things like gluten intolerance and cross contamination; seem to actually want to be at work; are chatty without being irritating when you're hungry and just after a quick lunch; and genuinely improve my day when I've had a tiring morning. The pitas are good, though probably the same as you can get at any Pita Pit (I have not been to many, so can't really comment, but I assume it's a standard formula? Who knows). But, gosh, the people in this place are just fantastic. Why can't more places in Auckland have this kind of service?

The fabulous aroma of freshly cooked pizza and the sights of the chirpy, flour covered lads pulling bubbling pizzas from the wood oven are the first reassuring signs that these guys know their stuff. As for the taste and quality of the pizzas they really are a true feast for the senses. The pizza bases are light, airy and the perfect level of crisp. The toppings generous and full of flavour. Picollo offers glorious pizza at reasonable prices that are prepared in true Italian fashion! So head down to Swanson for a little bit of a Naples experience!

Just 6 items on the menu and a couple of drinks. Authentic Indian flavours and true value for money. I had the Vada Pav and Samosa Pav for lunch yesterday. It woke up all my taste buds and took me back to the buzzling streets of Mumbai flooding me with nostalgia. And I just had to take my husband Ram back to try out their food today. We sampled the Samosa chaat and Bread bombs today. It was so delicious it felt like a party in our mouths. I highly recommend it. There are multiple branches across Auckland but the one I tried closest to me one out west is at the New Lynn Mall next to Denny's. So glad my friend took me to this place. Jango may be a panipuri stand will take you to the next level up. Can't wait to see if that will happen
