After going to…read moreseveral different garages and being told a variety of things like "you may as well go on eBay and buy a new gearbox for cheap" and "I'll take the gearbox out and send it on to a specialist gearbox place," we were eventually sent to Tameside Transmissions as apparently they know all there is to know about gearboxes. I brought the car here and immediately got taken on a short test drive with one of the mechanics so he could listen to what was up with car. He diagnosed the problem really quick and quoted us a price of £400 plus VAT, which is a good £200 cheaper than we'd been quoted by other places. I took the car in the next week and everything was sorted in three days (this was a big job). I picked the car up and since then it's been working just great. All I can say about Tameside Transmissions is that they clearly know what they're doing and are excellent at fixing gearboxes.

I phoned Tameside Transmissions for a procedure which I didn't have time to undertake and wasn't 100% sure on what steps to take. Believe me, for a company that specialises in transmissions, my problem would have been relatively simple. I could quite easily find out how to solve the problem myself but thought I would pass the work onto a specialist company, especially in these difficult times. Instead of `yes sir we would be obliged to do the work for you at this cost`, I got `anyone can do that, it's simple, we are busy for the next 10 days so won't be able to do it`. How did the person on the end of the phone know I needed it doing immediately? Asked why I wanted the problem solving, I explained it was an intermediary step to determining a larger problem. Funny how he said he could take on the larger job but not the one I needed doing prior to this. I'm sure Tameside Transmissions offer good quality workmanship but I certainly won't be bothering with them again, simply due to the arrogance of the person on the end of the phone. If I was female, would he have said the same thing? If I was disabled would he have said the same thing? Remember Tameside Transmission, "Assumption is the mother of all *k ups!"
