I had been wanting to stop in since Heng Seng opened, and tonight three of us finally went for dinner. While I've eaten and cooked many cuisines from East and Southeast Asia, I have had relatively little experience with Khmer (Cambodian) food, which made the visit especially exciting for me. For appetizers we ordered the fried dough, which is essentially identical to Chinese youtiao, and the Kaw Ko with bread. The Kaw Ko was outstanding--deeply flavorful beef stew gravy filled with generous chunks of beef and carrots, served with crisp, crusty yet fluffy bread that was perfect for soaking up the rich sauce. My fellow diners both ordered the large Traditional Kuy Teav soup, Phnom Penh style, and they thoroughly enjoyed it. The pork broth is flavorful but intentionally mild, allowing diners to customize it with condiments. Both of them added chili crisp oil, hoisin sauce, fresh chiles, and soy sauce to season it to their liking. On our next visit they both plan to try the dry noodles or possibly order a full portion of the Kaw Ko. I ordered the Kuy Teav Kouk (dry noodles), Phnom Penh style, and absolutely loved it. The dish is served with the pork bone broth on the side, which I found perfect. I added chili crisp and chili oil to the noodles and mixed everything together. The dry style gives you a wonderful range of textures--soft noodles, assorted meats and offal, crisp bean sprouts and coriander--followed by sips of the rich pork broth. It makes for a truly satisfying and balanced dining experience. To drink, I had tea and the pandan limeade, which was refreshing and delicious. Service was impeccable and the restaurant is very welcoming and a pleasant environment with comfortable seating. We were greeted warmly, seated promptly, and our food arrived fresh, hot, and beautifully prepared. I would highly recommend Heng Seng Noodles to anyone. If you enjoy the flavors of Vietnamese or Thai cuisine, you'll find Cambodian flavors familiar--but also pleasantly and interestingly different. read more

I have been wanting to try Heng Seng Noodles for awhile now and finally got there. I haven't had Cambodian food since Khmer Kitchen kitchen in Philadelphia. Khmer Kitchen was always crowded and always good. Heng Seng is a really nice space, modern and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The menu is varied but not overwhelming. We had the spring rolls and the papaya salad for appetizers. The spring rolls were very good and similar to Vietnamese ones but not as crispy. The Papaya salad was packed with flavors. We ordered with 1 pepper and it was plenty spicy. The best dish we had was the Khmer chicken seasonal item. The chicken was cooked perfectly and had a lot of flavors. I am a sucker for anything advertised as street food and this was very good. I would like to return to Heng Seng soon to try some other dishes such as the grilled beef skewers and dry and wet noodle soups. Heng Seng offers some very interesting drink options also. Food: 5/10 The noodles were not flavorful..only few chunks of beef. Overall, bland and had to add a lot of chili paste. Congee: the portion was big, however, like the noodles, locked flavor. Had to add more salt to it as well. Did not have much protein in it. The ginger overpowered the whole dish. Atmosphere: 7/10. And is a large, spacious area, however, almost seemed too spacious? It locked coziness of a home-cooked restaurant, vibe, but it is not like a takeout vibe either.. Service: 8/10. No issues here really. Beautifully decorated restaurant with nostalgic furniture and art reminiscent of Southeast Asia. The servers were quick, patient and kind. Their drinks are top tier. We got the pandan coffee with coconut foam and pandan limeade. So refreshing and hit the spot. We were very excited to try their hae keung appetizer but it fell short for us. The filling was on the mushy side. It would've been nicer to have the texture of shrimp chunks and water chestnut chunks. To be fair, we were comparing it to a memory of old. The papaya salad was nice and fresh, but could've used slightly more funk from the shrimp paste. Also got the dry noodles dish, phnom penh style, with the thick egg noodles. The broth that came with it was delicious, the noodles also fell a bit flat with the sauce. All three dishes felt close to what we remember but not quite there. I love the aesthetic and decor of this restaurant. The food is good too and there aren't that many Cambodian restaurants in this area, so I was interested in trying the food. The servers were also helpful and helped decide which dishes to get. The drinks were delicious but definitely on the sweeter side. My favorite dishes were the Beef Kuy Teav, the taste is similar to pho, and the Kaw Ko. The Kaw Ko was very tender and the stew was super flavorful. The Ngam Nov had a clean broth and it was light, so I think it would be perfect for breakfast. The portions on the noodle soups were also generous, and bigger than I expected. It came with a side of pickled vegetables. We ordered the House Special Mee Katang and Beef Kit Teav Kouk (Dry Noodles). The dry noodles were the highlight of my meal! A great Teochew noodle with Cambodian fusion cuisine. They has opened in the Asian shopping plaza for a year but I never noticed that when I stopped by for grocery shopping. My whole family came here a for an early dinner after playing 2-h of pickleball among six of us. The noodles are served in soup of dry style, so we order both in various options choosing wide noodle. The dry noodles serves with pork bone soup on the side was excellent. The traditional noodle soup (Kuy Teaw) was another great option. The saté option on the noodle soup provides additional spiciness taste. Love the Hae Keung as the appetizer. The papaya salad has a unique and refreshing flavor. I've been to Heng Seng about 3 times now. Two of those were back to back within one week because of how good it was. The workers are extremely kind, and the service is shockingly quick (every time we have had our food within 15 minutes, including entrees, I have truly never been so impressed with service before). I'm a neighborhood local and this place is truly a GEM and too empty for my liking, so a 5-Star review it deserves. My first time here I got the Pandan Coffee and Phnom Penh Noodles Dry with soup on the side and the Fried Dough. Second time I got the Fried Rice Special with everything in it and the shrimp tempura. My boyfriend has gotten the Phnom Penh Soup and Shrimp Soup and the limeade. We have thoroughly enjoyed EVERYTHING here and love it. For the things I've tried: Noodle/soup dishes are light, flavorful, and delicious. 4/5 Fried rice is heavier and you will want to take a nap after, but flavorful and so so so good. Think the Asian cuisine version of a really good pasta dish. 4.5/5 Fried dough is so simple yet so good every time, and plain addictive. 5/5. Shrimp tempura I almost wanted to order two of. 5/5. My favorite Cambodian noodle spot just opened a new location in Cherry Hill, NJ! The OG in South Philly is still my go-to, but the new spot is great, plenty of parking, bigger space inside, and an expanded menu with more dishes and drinks. I ate the house special crispy noodles 3x in 1 week! Also, I'm addicted to their Vietnamese coffee with pandan foam! I would drive 20mins 1 way just to pick up coffee from here. The staff is warm and welcoming, always pleasant and welcomes you with a smile. The few times I've picked up take out food/coffee from here and they're busy, they would acknowledge me arriving and tend to me as soon as they're able. This is a very family and kid friendly establishment. They do have high chairs and have enough space that you're not seated too close to other diners. I've dined in with our whole family, that's including 3-4yo kids, they're very accommodating. Their bone broth which is usually served as a side is full of umami. Even if my meal does not come with it, I always order it as an extra side. A few of the dishes they serve, I've had before because my mother in law makes them (chinese-vietnamese style), and they make it even better here at HengSeng! If you haven't yet tried the crispy egg noodles then you're missing out! It is ?deep friend yellow egg noodles so very crispy, topped with a gravy-like sauce that comes with your choice of protein (seafood, beef, or both). It's the best! When the noodles sit in the gravy for a few minutes, it softens but does not get soggy. That bite is full of flavor and textures, crispy and hearty at the same time! The other dish I like from here is the loc-lac which is well flavored beef cubes, tender and you just can't have 1 bite. It comes with the bone broth soup, rice, and veggies. Then there's the deep friend tofu stuffed with meat and seafood . Amazing! They have plenty of other specialty noodle dishes that my entire family loves! I never seen drinks options like these so I was so excited to try and they did not disappoint. The Thai green tea has great flavor, a tad on the sweet side but I tend to like my drinks less sweet. The limeade is perfect for a hot day, super refreshing and not too sweet. For food we ordered A5 Fried bean curd roll, C1 Phnom Penh Style dry noodle, and E5 Lort Cha. I have been here in person and also have ordered delivery several times and it never disappoints! The service is incredibly warm and friendly. They also make the best recommendations if you can't decide between all the delicious options :) the ambiance is also wonderful and clean. To start, all of the drink options are incredible - the coffee beans are from an amazing roaster in Philly (Caphe Roasters) so the Vietnamese coffee is perfection. If you want a nostalgic sweet beverage, get the ovaltine :) it's a rich chocolate drink that any child or adult would enjoy. If you're looking for something lighter to accompany your meal, I love the lemongrass limeade drink! And the classic Thai iced tea is also a great balance of milkiness and sweetness. I honestly can't see anything bad about any of the dishes but my favorites are the kaw ko with bread as a starter (it's an incredibly hearty stew that is extra delicious dipped with the crusty bread) and all of the noodle soups. So first up, if you're into Philly/NJ hidden gems, you have to follow JL Jupiter on YouTube, he had an amazing episode about this location and got us to want to try it. Second of all, GPS originally said it would be an hour and a half drive from where we live. WHen we got in to leave this morning, it was at 2 hours, all said and done with all the weather, construction, traffic, it took 2 hours and 40 minutes. I was in a pretty bad mood going into this restaurant but I will say things changed quickly. Service was amazing and fast. We had water and our appetizers before we could even use the restrooms and wash our hands. We went with the fried dough and papaya salad. The fried dough is not sweet, it's more savory, and there appeared to be nothing special about it but we both couldn't stop eating it! The papaya salad, it was not for us. The fish sauce was super heavy and we didn't' taste a lot of papaya, but it had great potential just did not meet what we were looking for (hey you can't like EVERYTHING). The meals came out super fast as well. She opted for the dry noodles (C1 on the menu) and I opted for the soup (B1 on the menu). Similar ingredients but entirely different presentation. The dry noodles were something I look forward to having next time as the adding your own layers of spice and liquid as you eat is something that seemed really awesome. As for my soup, The Phnom Penh Style. I'm going to say I love pho and I love ramen. This was a similar yet much more satisfying experience. The pork broth was outstanding, the shrimp were tender and delicious, all the organ meats were cooked amazing as well. We had a similar problem with traffic going home and I kept thinking about how satisfying and filling it was. On the table they had these pickled peppers which I also highly recommend trying, they added a nice spicy sour punch to the bites! You also had hoisin, sriracha, seasoning sauce and chili oil available to use as well. The service , as I said before was outstanding, everyone stopped by to check on you and we never needed to ask for anything. Even though the papaya salad wasn't' really our style, we still ate most of it, the fried dough was outstanding and both main dishes were exceptional. The restaurant was very minimally decorated but done nicely and not overdone. The owner was walking around talking to his regulars so you really got the feel that this was a neighborhood spot! If we lived closer we would be here weekly, but at a 2.5 hour possible drive time, it's still something we will do. When we were talking about the meal there were a lot of "next time I'm ordering this" type of comments as we want to try more Cambodian cuisine, something that does not exist where we live unfortunately. Long story short, we drove 7 hours round trip (shopped the Asian market in the parking lot and stopped a brewery on the way home) for lunch... and we're talking about doing it again. read more

This was our first time having Cambodian food, and visited Heng Seng based on a recommendation. We live about 60 miles away so we hoped it would be worth it. We arrived so hungry after having been stuck in traffic for over two hours. We were greeted and seated immediately. The waiter came over for our drinks then appetizers. We knew we wanted the fried dough and papaya salad. We ordered those immediately hoping they would come soon. I then asked our server about the meal options since we had never had Cambodian food. Dang was extremely helpful, answered our questions and made recommendations. Soon after that a plate of piping hot fried dough came out (it was so fast but so fresh!). I wasn't sure what to expect but my only regret is we split one - I could have had an order myself. It was slightly salty slightly savory and so good! I recommend one order per person. The papaya salad was good but too spicy for me. We ordered a 3 out of five and I would need a 1 or 2. It very fish sauce forward. Next time I will probably try a different appetizer. I ordered a "C1-small size". This is the dry noodle bowl with a variety of pork and seafood. It was amazing! I was stuffed after eating the small. The bowl comes with a delicious sauce on the bottom, tons of protein and noodles, and a side of broth. I liked that it wasn't soup and that I could add liquid to my liking. The shrimp in particular were so tender and not over cooked! The pork pieces were delicious. I'm not a fan of organ meat so I concentrated on the other pieces. There was fresh cilantro, a side of bean sprouts, and additional sauces on the table. The seasoning and hoisin were good but honestly it was flavorful enough on its own. Despite the fact that it took us 2.5 hours in traffic we will go back! I highly recommend you give Heng Seng a try! read more

The menu was a little intimidating even for a self proclaimed adventurous eater--featuring items such as pork blood, pork heart, brain, etc...but there were plenty of more basic options to choose from. All the food is super flavorful and fresh - from the papaya salad to dry noodle to congee, it is clear there is an intentional balance between acid, heat, and salt. The dry noodle and congee (Phnom Penh sytle) have organ meats like pork liver and lung which adds a funk to the dishes although that is traditional. My dad is on a clear broth diet ahead of an operation tomorrow, and our waitress was very accommodating. She brought him a clear pork broth soup, ensuring it had no toppings or protein, and even decided to charge us only half the price.
