Today we tried, for the first time, the Henhouse Café. Great food and a very friendly waitress. I ordered Mom's World Famous Pancakes. OMG. It's a 16" across 2-stack that I couldn't finish. I recommend it for 3-4 people; NOT one. Don't go solo. Others at the table ordered chicken and waffles, a breakfast sandwich and the waffle special of the day. Everyone enjoyed the meal. Just be advised it's not a budget menu. There are certainly are more expensive places, but this is not the cheapest. However, the food is worth it. The country decor is nice too. read more

ATROCIOUS SERVICE! Place was virtually EMPTY on Tuesday at high noon. Two other tables (3 top and 2 top only!). Yet it was the WORST SERVICE we've had in a long time. Shorter, older brunette with shorter pony tail (all 3 servers were brunettes with pony tails) was slow, unfriendly, surly, unhelpful, unobservant, etc. As a companion said, "she needs to find a new profession." Yep. One that is hidden away without customer interaction. Absolutely terrible. On top of that, portions are smaller now ("shrinkflation"). Also, they don't have email addresses or a "contact us" form on their website. They don't want to hear from you. They don't care what you think. This place won't make it. read more

We love the Henhouse Cafe (particularly the location on Higley). It's been a family favorite of ours for years. However, we've noticed the service and punctuality at this location is lacking. When we arrived, we were told it'd be a 20-25 min wait. We agreed and waited patiently for a table for four. However, we saw multiple parties arrive after us of four or more, and they continuously got seated ahead of us. At around 40 mins, my husband had gone up and asked politely what the estimated remaining time was, then I think they realized they skipped us. We ended up waiting an additional 10 mins and got our table after nearly an hour of waiting. Our server seemed like she did not want to be there. Our food took quite a while longer, and when it came out it was cold and dry. If this had been our first time coming here, we wouldn't go back. Needless to say, we likely won't return to this location in the future anymore. read more

Stopped by this morning for breakfast and to send out a couple of emails. It was my first visit after regularly driving by on my way to work. The restaurant was clean, the staff was nice, and I got seated immediately, which was great. I noticed there were two visible restaurant WiFi networks, but unfortunately, they don't offer guest access. I ended up using my hotspot, which worked fine but was a bit inconvenient. I ordered a simple two-egg breakfast. The portions were generous, but I was disappointed that there weren't any non-pork options to substitute for the bacon or sausage. No alternative was offered, so I just skipped that part of the meal. Overall, it was a decent experience--good service and food--but it's missing some amenities and flexibility other breakfast spots tend to provide. read more

Had to wait to be seated by the only server after 10 min of standing there, then we sat for another 15 minutes just to be handed menus, after another 10 min without the only server we just left. Never been here before but was in the area running errands, and truly will drive 45 minutes to come back again. Took myself out to breakfast and sat at the bar where Greg was my server -- the sweetest, most personable person. I wish I got her name, but the sweet lady at the expo was making conversation with me and just made me feel so comfortable. The runner/busser was super kind the second I walked in, welcoming me as I waited for the hostess. 20/10 experience. Ok so here's the sitch... It was a cheat day for hubs and he wanted to try the giant pancakes here after dieting and training for a couple of months. But once we saw it at a table next to us , we opted for the short stack, which was still HUGE for 2 people to share! We added chocolate chips to the pancakes and enjoyed just a few bites as we almost finished our other individual entrees by the time the pancakes came. Again, we were expecting the short stack to be a side order and was amazed at how big it was so buyer beware! We took most of it to go in a medium size pizza box! The fried chicken sandwich was made with chicken breast and biscuits for buns... hubs approved. I finished my chicken fried steak and had some potatoes left over. Overall everything was pretty tasty and the service was great. Thanks, Dallas! We came about 1230 so it wasn't too busy, so food came out quick which we appreciated as we skipped breakfast knowing lunch would be heavy! I bet they are super busy in the mornings on the weekends, so I would recommend going after 12 to have a better overall experience. The Bloody Mary was tasty, but maybe needed a double shot lol All in all, I would come here again if we had friends or family with us just to tackle that giant pancake! I am saddened to say the quality of both the food and the service went way downhill today. Ignored after placing my order, receinv the wrong order, while mine was placed on anothers table, and then the orders were moved and switched without being replaced, gross! The food was delicious. We got our coffee right away, and we took our time to decide on our meal because of the huge selection of meals to choose from. We had the Santa Fe omelet cooked to our preference. The service was great, even being short staffed. The french toast was perfect with their homemade light syrup. I went to meet a friend for breakfast here. I was behind a family who got in trouble for brining in a sippy cup and had to take it to the car but weirdly not the sliced apples they had. Then it was my turn. It was almost nine restaurant wasn't busy. I asked for a table for two. Hostess (later saw her interviewing so boss?) says to me. We don't sit people till everyone be is here, but I guess I could seat you. I say well thanks for being accommodating and she proceeds to have me wait. Five minutes later she seats me at a two top. Now really I should've said I was there alone and had my friend sit across from me. Seriously if you're not full why is there a problem seating people? The place I bright and cheery and our waitress was super friendly even though my mimosa showed up after my friends and I was there and ordered five minutes prior to her getting there. I find the manager/hostess was the big killer for me. I mean if you have rules no outside food or drink then be consistent (both the babies sippy cup and apples). Seat people when they show up when it's 1 of 2. I mean same table size either way. Food was good but idk if we will go back anytime soon with all the other choices in the area. read more

Really disappointing, wouldn't allow me to bring my own water bottle inside. A lot of the food is cooked in pork fat, definitely not friendly for kosher eating. The fruit was not fresh. The server seemed annoyed with answering questions about the menu. They're "fresh cinnamon roll" is microwaved. Will not be back. read more

So this place was hyped up to me over and over again by numerous people. I decided to give it a try for the first time, and I will say that I was not blown away by any means, but at the same time it wasn't just your typical breakfast restaurant. The wait staff was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. The prices are a little bit on the higher end but as we all know that's typical of restaurants anymore. The wait time was the only caution for this cafe. We were told 30-45 and it was an hour. We arrived to a line both inside and out. A pleasant crowd just enjoying the cooler weather. This is a must when you visit Scottsdale, or Phoenix! It was the first place we went when we landed in Phoenix. They have the biggest pancake you've ever seen! And they have pizza boxes so you can take the leftovers. Totally worth it! The staff was super friendly, and it's got a laid back country theme. Just really comfortable and fun. read more

Food was not good. Pretty basic and bland. Eggs were hardly edible and the biscuit and gravy was dry and tasteless.

I was super excited to try this place but unfortunately had a horrible first experience! First I have to mention that although the farmhouse style set up if cute the wooden chairs are not the most comfortable and it's freezing inside the restaurant! We asked to switch to a booth and we're moved which is where the problems started with the new server. He came up to us and the first thing he said was that we had to throw out our coffees. We mentioned we would still buy drinks if that was the problem and intended to spend a lot on food, so they wouldn't lose money on us bringing in our drinks but that we wanted to keep the coffees. This was a huge problem for them. The only option they gave was to take the coffees from us and hold them hostage at the host stand, that we could exit the restaurant and put them in our car, or that we could not eat there. We asked to speak to a manager just to understand that what they were saying was right and that they would rather lose business than allow us to have our coffees and the server refused to call the manager saying that he was the one in charge. So we left and didn't get to try the food. Don't think I'll return to this location and if you are planning to go make sure you don't bring anything from anywhere else because they are sticklers about this rule. Went to a different diner right after and despite the fact that they were near close time they sat us with a smile, had no problems with the coffee and we had a great time with amazing service and delicious food. Tucked away behind the biggest Bass Pro Shops I have ever seen is the Henhouse Cafe. I just needed breakfast! It was a boring Wednesday and I was hungry. Friendly staff and hot coffee greeted me quickly. I chose the Morning Meatloaf breakfast. If you're putting meatloaf on a breakfast menu...I AM EATING IT! I love meatloaf. This is more like a meatloaf Benedict and I loved this idea. The potatoes were lackluster but on the whole, this was a solid meal. I had the carnitas scramble which had veggies, moist flavorful carnitas and eggs in it. I had ordered the sauce on the side just in case I didn't like it but I totally did. Well I was able to come in before the rush of breakfast people & this place did not disappoint! Their menu has traditional breakfast, off-wall breakfast & healthy breakfast options. I tried their crab cake eggs Benedict & WOW! Yummy...I know crab cake is probably not a breakfast for many but DAMN it was good. Had their freshly squeezed local orange juice & that was refreshing. Awful as usual. We used to frequent them regularly then things changed. So after one year of being gone we decided to try it again. Seated and waited 12 minutes. Place had 2 parties in the whole restaurant. We waited 12 minutes while 4 servers stood behind the bar on their phones and sharing and laughing. Henhouse Cafe is a classic midwestern/southern breakfast spot. By midwestern/southern, I mean that this restaurant serves classic breakfast like pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and chicken breakfasts. They even served egg benedicts as well. I opted for the Paul Bunyan, while my partner ordered the Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast. There was a lot of food on the plate, especially for the price of it, and we had to take the B&G to go! The food was pretty good, I would have liked the sausage and bacon to be a bit more warm, but I still ate most of it. If you have a light appetite, you and another guest can split and entree and get a side order of toast/waffles/pancakes. 4/5 stars - I liked the food, the atmosphere was kinda homely and very warm hearted. Placed 3 to-go orders here on sunday. 1ts one kids fench toast with bacon and egg and the 2nd crunchy french toast with baccon ans eggs. Family loved bolth of them. The 3rd order was a cuban sandwich on sourdough. I have issues with gluten witch is why i asked two switch the roll with the sourdough i do better with that. Was supper disappointed when they did not switch the bread. Other then that the sandwich its self was good. Supper flavorful meat. The potato saled was alright.
