I invited a friend to try this restaurant. We went mid-week around 11am. There were only four other customers, yet our waitress acted like the place was full. It took her 10 minutes just to bring us menus and water. My friend was wearing a hijab and the waitress made a comment about how uncomfortable it must be to wear it! When my friend said she could not eat pork and asked for a suggestion-she said all the dishes had pork and maybe we should go somewhere else! We were shocked! We told the waitress that we had wanted to try this restaurant and we had limited time. We placed our order. After 30 minutes, I had to go look for her to ask her to check on our food. I saw her put the order in after I had talked to her! It took another 10 minutes to bring us eggs. The food was mediocre, and the service was horrible. We will not be back. My Daughters and Grandchildren took me there for an early Birthday Breakfast, service was horrible, food was even worse they spent quite a bit on meals for 9 of us, after much complaining the manager took the chicken meals off 3 of them, my poor granddaughters eggs were not even edible the waffle was a charcoal brickette as the chicken fried steaks, gravy was cold the potatoes as well had a funny flavor, the only thing that was edible was the toast. We should have figured it was going to be a bad experience when the host was telling certain people, minorities, that the wait was going to be 30 mins, which gave them 1 1/2 to eat because they close at 2p. It took forever to get our food. There was 5 in our party and four of us received our food but it was almost 45 mins after that the sandwich was brought to the last person in our party. Between the kitchen and where the waiters were waiting for the food was so unorganized. Waiters were just going in circles and while they were all over the place the manager was not checking to see how things were. I give it a really bad review. Five thumbs down!! Have you ever wanted to eat a stack of pancakes bigger than your head? Then you've come to the right place. Henhouse Cafe is known for their mighty Mom's Famous Pancakes. These are not your average momma's pancakes... well, unless your mother was the Jolly Green Giant's mom. We were going to order them to share but our server mentioned "The pancakes are the size of the whole table," pointing to our table for 4. We scaled back a bit and went with the "small" stack instead. I air quote small because they were still a carby behemoth, enough for 4 people to share as an addition to a main meal. The pancakes themselves were thick but fluffy, served with a mound of whipped butter and maple syrup. I'd definitely go back to get their pancakes. As for my main meal I opted for the corned beef hash since it was made in-house. When it came out it was impressive looking, but not really what I'd consider as a hash. Instead of chopped pieces of corned beef mixed in with potatoes, there were large slices of beef placed on top of a sparse sweet potato+ mixed veggie mixture. It was a tasty meal don't get me wrong. The corned beef was tender and well seasoned and I appreciate that there was so much of it but it was more like the menu listing should read corned beef with a side of veggies. I went to this cafe this morning with a friend! I'll be honest it took them a moment to make eye contact and seat us, but once we were seated we had fantastic service. My friend and I shared Mom's famous giant pancakes (or whatever it's called) got coffee, and each got a side of eggs. After tip her and I each payed about $26 and have leftovers that will last us days! The pancakes were so good, maybe they have nutmeg or cinnamon. They were even kind enough to move us to a bigger table to fit the plate of pancakes. The decor was absolutely adorable. We went to this location around 10:45 on a Saturday and the wait for a table of 7 was an hour. We waited about 40 minutes and were sat. The waitress informed us the food would be about another 30-40 minute wait after ordering. Overall the food was good and average price of each entree is about $13-15. In town with my mom and girlfriend so we decided to drive from downtown. Place is exactly how I remember it. Homey. It a really comfortable spot to sit and just get some breakfast. Now let's get down to why I'm tuning my girlfriend out while she decides on her next drink: the food and especially the service. The food's lights out. Get the chicken and waffles with spicy syrup. Game changer. The people who work here are awesome. Our server Ashley was incredibly attentive and someone you'd want to wait on you any day of the week. Just awful. My family was served their food while I waited for my food to come out. Their food was finished before i even for a plate. I waited that long for a gross chorizo burrito. It was too cheesy with cheese that wasn't even melted. My husband's chicken and waffles were disgusting as well. His chicken was so over cooked it, most of it was inedible and the waffle was soggy and undercooked, no syrup was used. We did not finish our meals, we could not wait to leave. This was our first time here and I don't think we'll be back. I was very disappointed with the lack of chorizo in my Chorizo breakfast burrito. It honestly felt like the cook forgot to add it in. My boyfriend got the chorizo burrito and really enjoyed it, highly recommend the sauce on the side. Otherwise it was a bit bland. I ordered the Cali Benedict, which was good but nothing stellar. The potatoes on the side were okay, but hardly touched them as they lacked some flavor. My egg was also overcooked on the eggs Benedict. Had breakfast here on a Tuesday morning before a Cubs game. It was a 12ish minute walk through the park from our hotel by Sloan Park but weather was gorgeous. Some favorites were the Cali Benedict, Belgian Waffles and the Paul Bunyan. Our server Dallas was super friendly and working hard but doing it all happily and with a sense of humor. If you want to try to eat the largest pancake ever, this is the place to try! Not an official food challenge, but ut should be! This pancake is so big you won't believe your eyes. Then to top it off, there's actually 2 of them. They are a little on the dry side and really thick, not fluffy, not even golden brown, or really that delicious at all. I would have to say their syrup is so weird. It's super condense and watery. If anything, getting Mom's homemade pancakes is just all for the gram. Show off this huge pancake but not something really to eat and feel satisfied. My boyfriend and I always love trying restaurants that have a dog friendly patio! However, I wouldn't recommend it. There was 1 bee on the patio. No big deal. But then 1 of our dogs ate it, thank goodness no allergic reaction. Found this place because of Yelp, and very excited I stopped in. Ordered corn beef hash, which is a little bit untraditional as they use thin, sliced corn beef however, it tasted great mixed with potatoes, onions, peppers, and yam. Got a side of French toast instead of regular toast and that was really good. Definitely want to come back and try their pancakes which are the size of a pizza and that's the small one. We have been walking the park across the street on Sunday mornings for a few years now. When we would get to the Dobson side across from the Cafe it always smelled amazing!! We finally decided to give it a try. We went on a Sunday at 9:30am. The place is pretty big and it was packed. We saw people waiting to be seated, but fortunately, we didn't have to wait cause we were just a 2 top and not a large party. We were greeted and got a drinks pretty quick. I decided on the kitchen sink omelette and my husband decided on the Henhouse breakfast sandwich. It did take 25 minutes to get our food but as busy as the place was we weren't too upset. I've given this place two tries now and it's really hard to find anything good to say. I'm not sure how they've stayed open for this long. Walked in for brunch to trash and food under and around our table. Waited an hour for cold or lukewarm food. Watched 2 tables walk because the never received food. One table even got a bill. The restaurant was half full. Our waitress brought out four extra plates, all of which had grime and food on them. Don't expect to be accommodated for any inconvenience because the staff seems like they deal with this all the time and could care less. I have ate at this establishment at the Gilbert location and it was AMAZING!! This location didn't stack up. First off, there was a long line waiting to get seated but it actually moved pretty quick. As we were waiting, a lady leaving said "prepare to starve to death" didn't know what she meant but we found out quick when it took an hour for our food to come out. I ordered the Belgium waffle which was really dry and felt like they cooked it yesterday. Orange juice was not fresh. The wait staff is very friendly on a positive note. Service was great but food was okay. I got the grandpa skillet and was super excited for a mix of mushrooms, red onions, red and green bell peppers, potatoes, and sausage. Well, it came out to be like 95% potatoes (see photo). I saw like maybe 2 thinly sliced mushrooms and some crumbles of sausage. Partner got the corned beef hash which was delicious and came with an even mix of sweet potatoes, bell peppers, potato, and corned beef. We were thankful that our server advised us to get the mini stack over the famous huge stack - it really would have been too big! Pancakes were okay as well - they were cooked well but there was definitely a cinnamon-like flavor which I personally didn't like and wish they mentioned on the menu. I was also frustrated that there was no drink menu provided - our server was kind enough to recite all the options, but it's frustrating to not know the prices or ingredients in their mixed drinks, coffee, or juices. Again, service was wonderful and all staff and manager were super attentive.
