Unfortunately this lead ended of being a disaster. This review doesn't even deserve 1 star. I had been in contact with Shabnam about bringing her henna tattoo service to a party I was hosting for my 10 yr old daughter and 14 of her friends. She responded quickly. However, once she emailed the contract, I notice that the agreement was binding between she and someone else. No worries, I realize this type of thing happens in form documents regularly. This was the day before the event, so I picked up the phone to let her know. She seemed unsure about my request to modify the contract so that it would be correct. She told me that she would TRY to see if she could modify and resend. Several hours went by. She sent me a text msg stating that she couldn't modify and that she was sorry this did not work out. I am thinking, "wait what?" I was simply just trying to protect us both. But before you just all together back out, let's agree to both sign an amended printout instead. She never replied. I emailed, text and called her to tr to reconcile the fact that I had lost a huge portion of my entertainment for a party that was to take place in less than 12 hours. Still dead silence. She did not even have he decency to apologize. I told her that I would write this review and unfortunately express my displeasure in hopes to prevent this from happening to someone else. As a last, desperate resort, I put an ad out on Thumbtack. I got a response in about 2 hours. Henna by Abeer, is the way to go. Professional, quality and prompt for the right price. This was my first time getting henna tattoos, and I was not disappointed. She gave me a beautiful tattoo on my back/neck and on my hand/wrist. I received compliments for days. I am not too familiar with henna so I am not sure if she provides the cheapest rate, but I am on a student budget, and I think she provides a fair price. First I'd like to say that I was very pleased with the tattoo, and received lots of compliments on it. I would have been happy to return and to refer people if I didn't feel that this is a shady business and people are not treated with respect here. This is a woman and her husband who do this out of their condo. You don't know this until you get there. When I arrived it seemed that I was interrupting her day. She wanted me to remove my shoes in her home, and I was more than happy to honor this custom in her home even though the floor was dirty. I was not given any pre-instructions or post care instructions for the tattoo, and when I asked how to care for the tattoo afterwards it was obvious that she was ready for me to leave, telling me that my car would be towed if I hadn't parked in the correct space. My car wasn't towed - but it seems like she could have mentioned the parking issue when I arrived, not after I had been there for 30 minutes (IF that !) There were no 'do not park here' or 'parking for residents only' etc signs where I parked. This was my first yelp deal purchase, and I didn't realize that my credit card was charged for it - thought I just had to show the coupon to get the discount when I paid. After she was done with the tattoo I paid her (and also gave her a tip, despite her attitude that I was inconveniencing her .) She took the money and didn't say anything. The next day when I realized that my card had been charged and she had been paid twice, I emailed and asked if I could return to get another tattoo at a later date at regular price and have the payment I'd all ready made applied rather than get a refund since I was pleased with the tattoo. No response. So then I called, and found that the number had been seemingly disconnected - but that wasn't what had happened at all. The number listed to make appointments is a google voice number - and she had blocked my number! (Google voice provides this capability.) SERIOUSLY? Over $10?? Wow. I found this out because I called again from my home phone # (which she didn't have - and had not blocked) and was able to get through. I've also used google voice in the past so I'm familiar with the capabilities and recognized the fake 'This number has been disconnected' message that plays when a caller is blocked. So once I got through calling from my home phone number I point blank asked her why she had blocked my number and told her this was all pretty shady. Once she realized I knew what she had done she then replied to my email. After a few email exchanges she said she wanted my address to mail me a check. No way I would give this woman my address and no way I would cash a check from her. I finally decided that anyone who would go through this much trouble for $10 is extremely desperate and obviously needs that $10 more than I do. So I just let it go. Cannot recommend this at all - despite having been pleased with the tattoo. read more

Wish it was possible to give zero stars!! I contacted this business to come out to my friends hotel room as we were having a slumber party there for her birthday! The person I spoke to started off really sweet and assured me they were available to come out that evening to work on about 7 women doing a simple design! This person sent me a contract to sign and everything I pay paled her on good faith a $45 deposit which I would I would have done through goods and services but because they do not want to be charged any fees they suggested that I did it friends and family! She sent me a confirmation email and told me the best way to contact her is through email ok we'll I have your phone number so why email that was red flag number 2 after the sending the money friends and family situation. Needless to say the day of my event a random number texts me and says I'm here. I had my friend who was in the hotel room call her right away to give her instruction on how to get into the room. But she texts me and say that my friends refused to give her the room number which was a lie because I seen the text that said otherwise! She then send me a nasty text that says thank you for wasting my time and gas!! Come to find out lobby staff says no one had ever come into the hotel! I was ripped off and after texting her to ask for a refund she has ignored me and because I pay paled her through friends and family I am out of $45! HORRID. Ok so I picked this place because it popped up first for dc henna... thinking its legit. Well I got there and its at HER HOUSE. Yup her apartment bldg. Met her family and everything who quickly scurried to the back after the initial introduction. Thats already weird enough. Then all I wanted was something maybe 3.5 inches long and 1inch wide and she was trying to charge $55.00 I told her I was only prepared to spend $25.00 for something so small which was already expensive to me. So she would not budge and neither would I and I left. Humph. Didn't seem very sanitary either. She brought out some pen thing and that was it... like no sterilization or anything. I am truly astounded by Shabnam Tailor's unprofessional conduct, which resulted in disappointing a room full of small children at a little girl's first birthday party. To add insult to injury, rather than apologizing profusely and immediately returning the security deposit, she actually charged my friend for the service (that she failed to provide). Shabnam from Henna D C did an absolutely fantastic job! Since I live in Houston and my daughter's Henna Bridal Shower was in DC, it required a lot of co-ordination. Shabnam responded to all my emails and phone calls and explained everything I needed to know about the Henna party. She did a fabulous job putting Henna on my daughter's hands as well as her friends. This place is terrible. I went there to get a tattoo on my shoulder. The lady who was polite, showed me a picture of a sun which was exactly what I wanted. She did it in less than 10 minutes and it looked sloppy and nothing like the picture. I came home later and the tattoo was very itchy, it burned my skin which makes me doubt about the sanitary conditions of the place. I asked for a refund providing pictures of the damages, but the lady did not even bother answering and then she blocked my phone. I called her partner who was defensive on the phone and would constantly cut me off. They make the price based on the customer's willingness to pay. I felt as if they were asking a lot of questions to see how they can trick you. I definitely DO NOT recommend this place especially since there are some cheaper places where you can get beautiful henna tattoos. Here, prices are too high for what they are offering. read more

If there's a way to give no stars, I would. She is very nice and pleasant on the phone and a great first impression (which is the reason for the one star). However, she is not very thorough in how she manages her business apparently. I spoke to her multiple times while trying to find mendhi artist for my wedding. We spoke on the phone on Friday, she confirmed prices are $69/hr, then sent me the contract stating $69/hr, then at 3am that night she says she made an error and the price is $79/hr. Keep in mind, the first time I spoke to her on the phone was a month prior and she told me $69/hr (then a separate email saying $79). I made an error on the contract by stating Thursday and then a date that was not a Thursday, but it was understood when talking to her on the phone that I needed Thursday. She sent me an email saying she's correcting the contract to put Thursday, the 18th, and that she would be there Thursday the 18th. Then, a few hours later, she sends an email stating she is unavailable (AFTER SENDING ME THE CONTRACT AND ME SIGNING IT..we now have a ratified contract people). Also, she is cash only business. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that way, but on top of breaching a contract and not knowing her own prices, I would never rely on someone like that. It's sad, I told her I was willing to work on the price, but thought it was unfair that after she communicated IN THE CONTRACT and over the phone THAT SAME DAY a price that she change it AND expect me to accept it is entirely unprofessional and well, what more can I say, she breached a ratified contract. Although I started late in the process in hiring a mendhi person due to my mom getting sick, it's disappointing that 5 days prior to my mendhi party that this happens. Perhaps she found a customer that had more guests and so would be more profitable....who knows. I don't have enough hate in this world to go against someone like this, but it's still nice having lawyer, CPA, and IRS contacts to give great advice. read more

I'm not surprised - when I explained to her and her horribly rude business partner last year that they had ruined a child's birthday party, they both first insisted that because they refunded my deposit (after I threatened them with legal action which I absolutely would have done), they saw no need to apologize. Quite the contrary - instead of apologizing like rational human beings, they shouted at ME and then hung up on me! Shabnam followed up with a text to me several months later telling me (not asking me, not apologizing) to change my Yelp review! We even paid for a posh hotel room to have the festivities. We called the phone was not answered. We left messages. No return call. I don't even think Shabnam deserves ONE star. She is totally a fraud. Her website conveniently pops up first when you google. When you call the number, she returns your call from a totally different number and asks you to meet her at a totally different address in 6415 Shiplett Blvd, Burke, VA. When I got to the shopping center, I asked her where her shop was and then she asked me to meet her at the Subway sandwich store exactly at 2 and insisted I come on time because she had an event. So what is advertised on the website never materialized. No shop. She arrived 10 minutes late and rushed into doing my mehndi in the Subway store. I should have walked out at this stage. This was totally unprofessional. She totally overcharges and her work is terrible. Somebody asked me whether a child practiced on me. I sent her a picture after it dried and not one single response. She also insists on cash and exact change only, which is very suspicious for a legitimate business owner. There is no receipt and no record of the transaction.
