Spicy Beef Fajita Puffy Taco
Bailey H.

When it comes to iconic San Antonio eats, Henry's stands tall -- especially in the age-old debate of who makes the best puffy tacos in town. While Ray's has its loyal fans, I've got to say: Henry's spicy beef fajita taco is in a league of its own. The beef is consistently tender, perfectly marinated, and packs just the right amount of heat -- enough to wake up your taste buds without overwhelming them. It's the kind of spice that keeps you coming back for more. One of the standout features here is the unlimited chips and salsa bar, which is honestly worth a visit on its own. You'll find three different salsas, along with pickled and fresh jalapeños, lemon wedges, onions, and fresh pico de gallo -- everything you need to customize your plate just how you like it. Add to that the welcoming staff, who always greet you with a smile and are genuinely happy to chat, and you've got a place that feels like home. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Henry's is a must-visit stop for a true taste of San Antonio. Highly recommended

When I came to San Antonio for a trip, I definitely wanted to get puffy tacos since San Antonio is the home of the puffy tacos. I decided to try Henry's. The food came out super fast. The puffy shell was yummy and crispy. As for the filling, I wish there were more options. There were also hot crispy complementary chips and salsa. Cute little place for puffy tacos!

This place has been a staple for my entire life and per usual it didn't disappoint! Holiday lunch for Labor Day and it had a steady flow of people. Ordering was quick with friendly service. Always love the self serve all you can eat chips and salsa bar. The place had the same nostalgic feel I remember as a kid. Super cozy, food smells and tastes great too! Tortillas were to die for!

Service is always quick and friendly anytime I go. Food comes out delicious and fresh. Best puffy tacos in the city to me.

I'm not a huge fan of Tex Mex, but I wanted to give these a try while in San Antonio. We went at lunch time, and they have some great lunch specials. It was decently busy, but they are very efficient. I didn't wait long to order or get my food. They have a chips and salsa bar, which I love. Chips were nice and crispy. Salsas were pretty good and had some nice spice to them. I ordered the two puffy taco special - one with chicken and one with picadillo. It comes with rice and beans. I opted for no cheese, as it was just a basic shredded cheddar. The meat in both was ok, but more bland than I hoped. The puffy shells started out ok, but they get soggy quickly and start falling apart. The charro beans were actually my favorite part of the meal. Overall, I am glad I checked it out, but I don't need to go again. Friendly, fast, and decently priced, but just not my jam for tacos.

Henry's Puffy Tacos was #1 on my "Must Visit" list when we traveled to San Antonio, Texas. This was the first place we visited upon arriving in San Antonio. and this was the closest location to us. The exterior of the restaurant does not look extraordinary. The building appears rather ordinary and simple from the outside. Do not let that deter you from dining here because you'd be missing out. The interior of Henry's was nicer and very clean. We arrived at an odd time so there was hardly anyone else at the restaurant. Good for us because we did not have to wait long for our lunch/dinner meal to be ready. How were the Puffy Tacos? They tasted FANTASTIC!!! It did not disappoint. Love the fact that they met my expectations!! Actually, they probably exceeded what I expected. Seriously, they looked great and tasted even better. Every bite of those puffy, crispy, airy tacos was like an explosion of flavor. Absolutely worth going to San Antonio to indulge in some of Henry's puffy tacos!! Bon Appetit!!

Visiting San Antonio for a weekend trip and wanted to find something unique. Was given a rec for Rays/Henry's for the puffy tacos the city is known for. Tried the spicy beef puffy tacos and wasnt disappointed. The texture of the fried tortilla was great esp when served fresh and had a nice crunch and chew at the middle. The spicy steak was seasoned but not that spicy and slightly too well done for my taste. Definitely enjoyed my first puffy taco though and the location is decent for sit down with s second location for takeout only.

Enjoy & prefer Henry's on Woodlawn rather than 410/Bandera. Woodlawn is run by the sister & the 2 brothers run 410/Bandrera location. Woodlawn is a bit off the tourist route much better for locals & has better prices for more value. Woodlawn is a much smaller building but same great quality food. Enjoyed their beef enchiladas. They include complimentary warm chips & 3 types of salsa. Before I've tried their beef, chicken & bean n cheese tacos. Their refried beans are wonderful. Today Mon 12/22/25 at 215pm stopped by & had their Original Enchurrito with carne guisada, refried beans in a large flour tortilla topped with enchilada sauce & melted cheese & was fabulous & huge portion. Lotta customers started coming in while I was eating. Their parking is a bit limited. They have a drive thru. I will be returning. Thank you Henry's Puffy daughter for serving great food.

I've know of the concept of a "puffy taco" for many years. It has been on my "to try" list for quite some time. Well this past weekend we found ourselves in San Antonio, and made a puffy taco a priority. A Yelp search gave Henry's high marks. Wow, I was expecting a taco stand in a parking lot. It probably was at one time. Not now. It is a spacious, well it, and air conditioned dining environment. Perfect on this hot Texas day. Our server, Ayden, was great. We let him know we were new to the concept. His knowledge of the menu, and the lunch specials, was very helpful. Thuy spotted something we don't see often, a grilled chili relleno. So we're set, puffy tacos and a chili relleno. Very impressed with both. We would dine here again in an instant... But there are other puffy tacos joints to try. Bottom line: So little time, so many options.

Always consistent great Mexican food and great service. The chips and salsa bar is amazing and the puffy tacos are out of this world.

Amazing food. They deliver via DoorDash. My driver was very friendly. I haven't been to this location in ages so I can't speak to the ambiance. This food is just as good at the Bandera location's food.

I've been wanting to try Henry's because we're on a search for puffy tacos and these have been recommended. The restaurant was clean and looked like your typical taqueria. We were immediately greeted and seated upon entering. It took a while for a server to come to our table but when he arrived he was friendly and attentive. The chips were crispy and fresh. Salsa was very mild and pretty average tasting. We ordered a queso and everyone at the table agreed it was pretty good. We got 2 orders of puffy tacos that included spicy beef fajita, spicy chicken fajita, and picadillo. Both plates came with rice and beans. The picadillo was lacking in flavor and was pretty bland. The spicy chicken was good but our favorite was the spicy beef fajita. The rice had a strong taste of cumin and was on the mushy side. The refried beans tasted better than the charro beans. Charro beans had a taste to them that I couldn't figure out but it wasn't something I wanted to continue eating. I was concerned about the shell falling apart as we ate them but all 4 were crispy and delicious and did not fall apart. We also had a burrito with steak fajita. It came with enchilada sauce and cheddar cheese. My son said it was good but he was only able to eat half because of how large it was. The items we ordered plus sodas came out to approximately $65 before tip. Overall I would say this was a pretty average experience for us as far as food goes. The service was good. I'd go back to try some other menu items because there are good reviews on here.

Are these any different than the main location? Price? Taste? Presentation?

This is the original location, and the taste and price are very similar. It is a lot smaller, and in my opinion the bigger location has a nicer atmosphere.

I had made reservations to meet some friends here for brunch/lunch 1145 am on a Sunday. This place is bigger than it looks! There's seating at the main building, plus a huge outdoor patio seating area, and an entire other building beautifully decorated. The hostess was welcoming and friendly and our server was excellent. We were seated in the other building near the windows. The menu wasn't huge, but just right with a few lunch and brunch items. After debating for a while of what to order, I decided on the Texas Gulf Shrimp plate. Agua Fresca of the day per our server was strawberry pineapple. Our server was able to water mine down slightly- since it was very sweet, but love knowing that it was freshly made. Complimentary chips and salsa always a plus, and we were able to order some spicy salsa to accompany at no charge. My shrimp plate was delicious! 2 skewers of nicely cooked and seasoned shrimp atop salsa with perfectly cooked cilantro rice and a fresh leaf salad. A half slices avocado accompanied my plate. Oh how I love avocados. I thoroughly enjoyed my plate. The chicken al carbon was also a good choice - half a chicken that was juicy, not dry. The avocado toast was beautiful and the pecan salsa was quite interesting. The female performers during our brunch in the room, made it very hard for all of us to have conversations. The volume echoed loudly in the room, so it was very hard to speak and understand each other. Although a great idea, maybe outdoor patio area might be more suitable. Beautiful space, great service, good food.

The ranchero sauce looked bad and all of the food on my plate had no flavor, no seasoning, literally no effort whatsoever. I had a bug crawl across my hand while we were there as well. She had the issue with her plate, food was not even warm. The tortillas were hot and tasted good so that was how I warmed up my food. Our waiter also decided that he would cross the street to go speak to a woman at the little outdoor patio restaurant across the street on the corner. Not kidding, he was there for at least five or ten minutes just talking to her. I have always wanted to try Tito's and wanted something new to us but I guarantee there is no way we will ever go back.
