    Spicy Popcorn Chicken

As someone who loves Taiwanese popcorn chicken, I was excited to try Herculean Chicken! Sadly, I was disappointed with my experience. :( My boyfriend and I ordered a spicy popcorn chicken and a spicy fried chicken cutlet alongside our drinks from the Tucson Hop Shop, but both snacks lacked flavor despite being advertised as spicy. The chicken was tender and moist, but the seasoning was barely noticeable. In addition to the lack of flavor, I found the pricing to be too expensive compared to other options in Tucson. It was $12 for a tiny bag! Overall, I wouldn't come back to Herculean Chicken and would opt for cheaper and more flavorful options in the area.

Great food and cool owner. I'm cheering for her and her small business. The chicken was light and airy. The flavor profile with the spices were different to me as I've never had Taiwanese chicken before. It was a little expensive, but the cost of small business is expensive. Definitely chase them down.

Delicious! Had the opportunity to try this at a food truck festival in Peoria AZ. Great asian quality that's hard to find in this part of town. A little pricey but worth the splurge

This chicken is so, so delicious. It's crunchy, incredibly juicy, and super flavorful with a distinct 5-spice flavor. We tried this a few months ago and literally drove across town today to have it again.

Love this place, unfortunately it seems I can only get it during Tucson Eat Yourself. I'm hoping to find them around town.

The popcorn chicken is flavorful, juicy and tender, although admittedly this is my first time sampling Taiwanese chicken, so I can't attest to how authentic it may be.

It's not going to be the best you ever had in your life, and if you've been to Southern China, you're not going to be blown away. HOWEVER, it is the homemade taste that makes it good. It doesn't feel like any other restaurant, it feels like you are at somebody's house. Here's the thing, I came in expecting the usual Chinese food affair, but I left genuinely surprised and impressed. This restaurants specializes in Southern Chinese food, which is different from other regions. I am so happy this restaurant and its chains helps the cuisine gain exposure and adds depth to Chinese food in general. Even better, the menu is laid out in a way that it is easy to understand: gluten-free options, allergies, and spice level. The service was great. All though it isn't a "full" sit-down restaurant, everybody there seemed to know the menu well and was happy to be there. As a Cantonese person, it was nice hearing my language being spoken in the kitchen. The restaurant itself was immaculately clean and very modern. We came during early dinner time so the parking lot was near empty and easy to park. Overall, if you've never had Southern Chinese food or are looking for something more authentic than classic Chinese takeaway, definitely check out this location. The cherry on top are the big portion sizes and the price.

Promptly seated, drinks brought out, order taken and food delivered fast, hot and correct. The background music was some chinese music tv station playing modern easy listening tunes and, along with the comfortable chairs and solid table made for a relaxing environment. The food? meh. You can see our order in the latest photo and how expensive it was. the Lo Mein was mostly tasteless and certainly lacking in thast "lo mein flavor." Although the meat was tender, the sauce was just a sticky brown sauce. Surprisingly, the Spicy Pickle Tofu was essentially the same sticky brown sauce as the Lo Mein but with some fried tofu in it and without the noodles but nothing otherwise remarkable. You can tell by looking at my earlier picture attached. The old picture shows a bright and colorful plate. The dish today was a dark brown (you could hardly see the tofu from the beef) as everything was just dark. Eggplant seemed to have a similar brown sauce as well but the eggplant was otherwise tasteless. Nothing popped. Chicken bites were bland and not at all crunchy. Just fried to soft texture but no real flavor. According to our server, the menu was just recently updated about a month ago. We noticed because one of our favorites was the Fried Taro Pie which is now gone from the menu and the server said yes, that's right. Maybe this place has a new owner or chef, but it's no longer in my top asian restaurants for Tucson.

But squeeze right in to the little lot for lunch and prepare to leave happy! What's to love: Oh wow, they have lunch combos on weekends. That's rare nowadays! And their sides are a little bit different--instead of regular fried rice, they've got BBQ pork rice to accompany your dish. I was really hesitant, but that stuff is delicious. I had some with crispy orange beef--which was perfectly tenderized on the inside and crispy on the outside. If that sounds too rich for you, rest assured there are a dozen vegetarian-friendly combos as well. Service is kind, food comes out fast, and you can overhear happy long-time regulars raving about their food like they're discovering it for the first time. There are a ton of nondescript Chinese restaurants in town, and Ba-Dar is one of the better choices.

The fact is, unless I'm in a restaurant where there's roasted duck, pork, or chicken hanging from hooks, the expectation for "authentic" Chinese food is low. Ba-Dar was a surprising hit closer to the authentic side of the scale. The staff was super friendly and made it a point to connect with my wife and I as well as our kids. The three dishes and one appetizer we ordered came out quickly and was enough to feed our party with leftovers. I probably won't make it a point to come by the next time I'm passing through town but Ba-Dar was an enjoyable experience for tourists and locals alike. Enjoy!

Service was attentive and everyone inside was incredibly kind and respectful. Ordered Crab Rangoons and Beef Chow Fun, a couple of staples of mine trying new Chinese restaurants. Rangoons were perfectly crispy, while the chow fun had a delicious wok hei flavor. The noodles and beef were tender and the dish had plenty of onions/green onions/etc. The only thing I didn't care for - and this is a personal preference - is that the chow fun did have a little more star anise/five spice flavor than I care for. Otherwise, the food was hot, fresh, and delicious! Definitely looking forward to returning for a dine in visit to try out the full, very authentic looking menu.
