I saw Rene the grief counselor who was very cold hearted and she was not a good listner. Rene asked me why I was crying and I told her I lost some loved ones close together. Rene, said, which one was your favorite? She told me people die and that is how it is! Rene tried to ditch me to a support group for other people who lost their loved ones too. Rene asked me, so you don't need to see me again? Right? I felt that she didn't care or take any time to meet me again. I was heart broken of the death of my loved ones and she didn't want to help me! Rene lacks compassion and empathy! I was so disappointed! I give this grief counselor a 0!

Not only did they make her comfortable and treat her with respect but they made sure I had everything I needed to be her caregiver as well. The home hospice nurses were amazing. Whether I was calling in the middle of the afternoon needing a hospital bed delivered before the end of the day or in the middle of the night needing someone to come over right away, they were there asap. At 5 on a Friday I called needing immediate help and they were there 20 minutes later, and even apologized for taking so long! These aren't first responders, these are nurses (I ended up calling the fire department a few minutes later and they took 15 mins to arrive). When it came time to move my Mom to the Hospice House they handled the trip quickly and made sure she was comfortable the whole time even though she couldn't let them know how she was feeling. I called at 9 on Saturday morning asking to move her and she had been settled into her room by 11 that morning. I was very impressed. Five out of five "stars" just doesn't seem like enough for Hospice House. The people are by far the most amazing part of this organization, but the Hospice House itself is incredible as well. Hospice House of Mercy has both home and inpatient hospice options for their patients. The home nurses visit patients once a week (or more, it's up to the patient) and report back to the hospice medical team as well as the patients physician. They also offer home visits from the social worker, chaplain, home health aide, and volunteers. The home health aides can help with bathing and other personal tasks a patient may need help with. The volunteers can do anything from delivering prescriptions to doing the laundry to just sitting with a patient while the care giver is away. The staff at the Hospice House is equally as impressive as the home health staff. Everyone from the janitor to the medical director was thoughtful and asked if they could do anything for us every time they came into the room. One of the nice things about Hospice House is that they don't bug the patients every hour for vitals and such or have a bunch of machines hooked up and beeping like they do at hospitals. It's on the patients schedule, it's quiet, and that makes for a very comfortable and relaxed stay, which is incredibly important when you're in hospice care. The actual Hospice House building is gorgeous. It's about five years old, I would've guessed it was brand new. They have 12 rooms available for patients. Each room is private, very good size room and bathroom, private outdoor patio that the bed and recliner can be rolled onto, sleeper sofa for guests, and dining table with chairs. There is a library with plenty of books to choose from and a computer with internet access, a chapel, huge kitchen with any gadget you could need to cook up a dinner for your loved one or family, guest shower and laundry room, a couple sitting areas, and a few play rooms for kids. In the center of this beautifully appointed building (it looks more like a hotel than a hospital) is an elegantly landscaped courtyard complete with a gentle waterfall in the center. A couple benches and chairs around the walkway make it a serene place to talk, make a phone call, or just sit and enjoy the weather. This was my first experience with hospice and I was very pleasantly surprised. You never want to be in a position where you or someone you love will need hospice care, but if you do, this is the place you want to be. I can't say how grateful I am for their support, care, knowledge, and respect throughout a difficult time.
