Probably our best meal in the Basque region, and that's saying a lot! We got lucky and stumbled in shortly after they opened in the evening and were seated right away. In the main room, the tables are family-style - long table with a bench. Most of the seats were reserved and people were being turned away 10min. later. The waitresses were dressed in long dresses, what I assume is traditional garb. We speak little Spanish and they speak little English but did a great job and were very patient and helpful. Great service. The food was outstanding! We had clams in green sauce, grilled hake, and fish soup. My girlfriend was going to have the clams as her main dish but the waitress talked us into having it as a starter, which was good since it was a modest amount of clams. She shared the hake with me and loved it, and she's not a big fish person. OH, and the bread! I could have made a meal of that alone. Crispy outside, warm and soft interior, dipping bowl of olive oil, wonderful! Do not forego the bread. read more
