Previously we traveled all the way to Brandon and, with two little ones, that just seemed silly. A lot of tax preparers that she located in the area really overkilled their love for America, the military and the police on their website. Not that we have anything against any of those institutions, we just have different priorities when looking for an accountant. Shanita Jones, owner of Jones Accounting & Tax Services Inc, seemed to fit our style better. Shanita met with me on a Friday afternoon. She talked to me a little bit about her history as an accountant before we went through my wife and I's tax documents. While looking through them, she had some additional questions about our financial year and our dependents. Most I could answer. There was one piece of information I didn't have and she told me no sweat, just email it over. She said she was running about two weeks out so she would have our taxes prepared two Fridays from our meeting. Two weeks passed and I didn't hear from Shanita. I gave it another few days and sent an email. Nothing. I figured it was April, she was probably swamped, so I gave her a call. She answered, said she didn't have my information in front of her so she would give me a call back shortly. Was I getting the run around? I started to worry. But Shanita eased my fears by giving me a call back later that afternoon. She told me the taxes were done, went over with me suggestions for how to improve them so my family could get a return in the future. She answered some additional questions I had and then hung up. Shanita sent over the final return and asked me to go over it. I did, it looked great. I responded with an additional question. It took her a few days but she did get back to me confirming that everything had been submitted and to answer my final question. From where I sit, the communication could've been a bit better. That's why this experience was rated as four stars instead of five. But, my wife and I started to do our taxes really late in the season and I can't speak for what life is like for an accountant during this time of year. As long as Shanita is still in the game, I plan on returning to her next year, although I'll make it earlier in the year. Then I can truly get a sense of what the communication is like at Jones Accounting & Tax Services.
