This place is kinda awesome. It doesn't seem like much from the outside but that's all the more reason to go in. I went for Friday Fish fry which was so good and for a city girl - so cheap. You get a large amount, a bunch of sides etc. it seems like the local area hang out. It was fairly easy to get a table even though we went at prime time on a Friday night. It's just across the Illinois/Wisconsin boarder. The service is fast and super nice. No frills just really good. There was music playing and tv with baseball on in the background. I ordered a blueberry mule that I really enjoyed. Lots of parking in a private lot and a place you can bring your entire family or sit with your friends in the bar area. I think it was well worth the drive and I hope to meet my family there again in the future. read more

I have never had a bad meal at Herner's anytime I have gone or ordered take out with my family. Until tonight. My husband and I ordered our favorite the Rueben and I'm not sure what has changed but everything is wrong with it. The meat was not tender it was hard chunks with a lot of grizzle. Hardly any sauerkraut or sauce just a lot of hard chucks and cheese. If tonight was the first time I every had a Rueben I would never order it again. Not the usual sandwich we get. Super disappointed. Hope this gets passed on and noted to change whatever it is back to what it was. Or if this was a one time thing. Wow what a cool place! It has a regular inside bar with the cleanist bathrooms I've ever seen. The outdoor - AMAZING! We stopped by yesterday (Sunday) and sat on the outdoor patio - they also have a huge outdoor area that has picnic tables, games and a stage. We just had naked wings - they were very good - and some beers. Toward the end of us hanging a couple started playing music up on the stage - it was great. First time there. The food was good. Portions were generous. We went there to meet up with friends and didn't realize we would be there during a Packer game so it was louder than we expected, but not a problem. The staff was great and parking easy. They were out of corned beef which we had planned on ordering after reading the reviews and they did not have the homemade potato chips that were on the menu. But the experience was unfortunately spoiled by the restaurant's utter disregard for the public's safety. When I arrived, I asked a server (who turned out to be our waitress) and another woman (likely the hostess) about vaccination status (COVID-19). Neither was wearing a mask, and the waitress (if not both) had not been vaccinated. The hostess said that state law does not require it (!?). Despite my concerns, our waitress did not put on a mask, or even provide a substitute server--maybe NONE of them had been vaccinated. I did not see any staff at all with masks, though obviously I did not go in the kitchen. Speaking of the kitchen--considering what's going on in the dining room, I have to seriously question the hygiene in the kitchen. I would have walked out, but I was with a group of nine other family members who were meeting at a location between our respective homes. I will not be returning. read more

Fun place to dine! We played DJ bingo here last week and had a blast! We have been several times before and it's a great spot! Good service and good food. The reason for 4 stars is that they have changed their menu a little bit. No more homemade chips Also, I wish they had better guacamole, but what they serve is okay. Everything else we have had has been pretty tasty though. Surprisingly enough, their hummus appetizer is sooo good! It is one of my go-to's as it is always fresh and flavorful! We also like the chili and the Reuben's. We went for taco Tuesday quite awhile back and that was good too. I will have to try it again and their burgers as they seem to have a good variety to choose from. I also like how they serve their soft drinks in a small pitcher so you don't have to ask for refills. The baked fish was the best I ever had and potato pancakes very good - again good portions. And our waitress Caitlyn was one of the friendliest nicest we've had in a long time. Holy Haddock, what a Friday nite fish fry! I went with 7 other friends just last nite. We all sampled their 2 fish fry variations, fried and baked Haddock in an iron skillet. They include fries or a potatoe pancake, cole slaw and a piece of rye. No one was disappointed. I've sampled some of their other menu choices in the past and was equally satisfied. The place does get crowded (almost overcrowded, hectic) but your patience will be rewarded. A band was playing in the outside "beer garden" so enjoy the entertainment too. read more

The Mahi tacos are OUTSTANDING!! The mango salsa makes this a favorite!! I've had them twice and I look forward to my third, forth and fifth times. i am always surprised how amazing this place is. Sadly they were affected by the staffing shortage and cut their menu down. I went yesterday and it wasn't nearly as amazing as it usually was. No chips (my fave) and just over all quality was a little lower than usual. Maybe the cook changed? Ordered the classic burger (which came on a brioche bun) and home made potato chips (on of my favorite things to have) and it surpassed my craving! This was our second visit here. Our first visit was for their Friday fish fry which was very good. We decided to try them on a Wednesday and order something off the menu. We were NOT disappointed! My husband and I both decided on their famous Reuben sandwich. I ordered fries and my husband ordered the potato salad with his. In one word... delicious! The bread was marble rye and the sandwich was packed with corned beef and gooey melted Swiss cheese. My husband finished his but I had to take my half home with me. Service was good. Our server was always checking on us and she always had a smile. I had their mini pitcher of Coke and husband had Spotted Cow on tap. Fantastic. Highly recommend! Excellent food and service. My husband and I have been passing this restaurant on our way into Lake Geneva since they opened and we finally decided to stop. Now we're kicking ourselves that we didn't stop sooner. Everything was outstanding. Sat immediately. Greeted immediately by bartender. Sat ourselves. Greeted in under a minute by server. Drinks and appetizer came super fast. Soda is served in small pitchers which is cool bc you won't need to wait for a refill! Entrees came ridiculously fast as well and our burger and steak sandwiches were both cooked perfectly. Attentive staff without being annoying. Food was so damn good and portions were huge. Highly recommend the BBQ Pork chip (nachos) made with Homemade chips and the Texas burger. We will definitely return each year as we visit for our anniversary weekend. read more
