Being one of the biggest supermarkets on the fringes of the city centre I imagined it would be easy enough to pick everything up and make it home with plenty of time to whip it up for New Year's Eve. What I didn't account for was the long queue to get into Sainsbury's car park, the hundreds of frantic shoppers desperately scanning the store for any left over bottles of sparkling and the mass of empty shelves. Yup. There was - wait for this - no buffalo mozzarella, no ricotta, no eggs and no spinach left. I asked an assistant if there was a pasta making contest taking place anywhere and he laughingly remarked that there hadn't been any of the ingredients since 9am. He did however, find me two bottles of good Prosecco and offer to phone a local branch to check if they had the other ingredients.

I was going to have an all day breakfast but I thought as I was heading over to Frurt a couple of hours later, I better have something lighter. I think it was a mistake. Not because it was bad, but boy was it expensive for what we had. This is not to say the Cafe as a whole is expensive, as I thought £4.95 for the all day breakfast was great however today I had a pre packed chicken salad sandwich which you can buy in the store, a small bag of kettle chips, a pepsi and a very small piece of rocky road. My guest had the same except she had a panini as opposed to the packed sandwich I had - and the cost, a whopping £13.57. I nearly knocked someone over as I staggered back in astonishment! Thirteen pounds! I mean come on - what I had was basically what an supermarket or petrol station call a 'Meal Deal' which costs £2.99. I basically paid £6.70 for this and the benefit of eating it in. I really should have just got the meal deal for £3 from the entrance and eaten it in my car! Admittedly my guest could not have had her panini hot in the car unless we sat it on the engine block for a good while, but even still the fact remains what I had in store would cost around £3.70 (the extra 70p being for the small piece of rocky road I had as well). The seating we chose wasn't the best either. There are three styles of seat to cater for different people. You have the sofa chairs, some padded round back support chairs and some normal wooden based chairs. We chose the padded round chairs as they looked very comfy but crikey were they restricting. I mean, I am not exactly skinny but I am not exactly high either - neither is my guest yet we both sat in the chairs and immediately looked at each other wondering if when we stood up - the chairs would be leaving with us! A lady much larger than ourselves came to the table next to us and I thought you poor soul, you are going to struggle and needless to say, she soon got up and chose a wooden chair. So if you do visit - make sure you only use the nice red padded chairs if you are about a female size 8, or a male size 30" waist as anything more then the chairs will just make you feel obese! So all in all I was not too impressed with my visit today. A VERY expensive sandwich and crisps - by the way the sandwich on its own was £3.09 which is more than complete 'Meal Deals" in store so couple that with a bad choice of seating then I know next time I am going to try the more reasonable £4.95 all day breakfast, and I will be sitting on the normal wooden chairs for sure.

This is a large Sainsbury's store, on Wilmslow Road, in the Fallowfield area of Manchester…read more As of April 2023, The store operates a policy, where you must, scan your receipt to leave the store, I can understand why they would want to do this to prevent shop-lifting but the idea just doesn't work for many reasons: 1. The store has multiple entrances, meaning it makes it more difficult to just cut through the store, also if you want to get to the Starbucks or high street, from the car park, you'll be out of luck. 2. If you chose not to buy anything, you'll have to wait for a security guard to allow you to leave 3. I struggled to scan my receipts on the scanner and struggled to exit 4. The systems were setting off loud alarms constantly, bellowing throughout the store, and the gates were very slow to close after one person had passed through, making them pointless anyway. I feel having these scanners on the self-checkout area, would be much more effective, than on the actual exits. In terms of the overall store, the facilities are good, with the store also having an Argos and Starbucks inside, while it isn't the most modern or easiest on the eye, in terms of their interior, the section is pretty good in most areas, stocking the items you'd expect to find here, and the store is reasonably easy to follow with a decent number of staff around the store to provide assistance when required. The store also supports Sainsbury's SmartShop, which means you are able to scan the QR code at the front of the store, and then you can use your mobile phone to scan items as you're going around the store, you will still need to go to the checkout to finalise your transaction though, unlike the smaller Sainsbury's Local stores, that let you pay via the app. I was a little disappointed with the clothing and home section, considering this is a large store, but with Argos now coming into Sainsbury's, who stock many items in this category, it makes up for it, even if it does lack the physical touch/feel before buying, as real in-store shopping. 3* - A good Sainsbury's store, but the receipt gates and alarms make me feel like I'm entering a prison, rather than a place to buy milk and bread.

They…read moremay still be located in a shopping centre with quite a few other shops and restaurants such as A Card Factory, Greggs and Subway but this ASDA store does not have a Cafe itself making it a nightmare to do all your things in one place, or find somewhere that avoids cross contamination for Coeliacs like me. I may have said for the Chadderton branch, yes this is okay but the Harpurhey branch does not have it, that is right they do have a nice range of products here but still this isn't a great store. I couldn't even get a bottled water, a member of staff told me they did not have any and for me to go over the road. I am sure a big store like ASDA would have bottled water, the staff could also of been more polite in telling me this or checked for me. It is unlucky to have 1 bad incident with a member of staff but another one in 2 constitutive visits is really disappointing. One thing I do not like about ASDA, Despite being cheaper than Tesco for most things is that they do not have a loyalty scheme like Tesco's Clubcard or The Nectar Card of Sainsburys. This ASDA Does have a large clothes section if you need to look for clothes and get your groceries, you can do both of these in the same place. This ASDA store has a nice range of Gluten Free sausage and even had some on sample, they have The Black Farmer, Heck, Butchers Selection and their own Extra Special range (Avaliable in quite a few interesting flavours!) This ASDA does also have a DVD section and follow the traditional ASDA look for most items such as Milk and Starbucks Frappucinio Beverages at the fridge on the back wall near the DVD and Clothes sections, which strech to the back of the store. This ASDA has a partnership with Cresta Cars, if you use the freephone here you can get a token which gives you 75p off your journey and they do come in a few minutes. Due to the range of some products, I can't give this ASDA one star but I really don't think it deserves more than two. This store has no coffee machine either, a few local ASDA stores do but it seems the store that is desperate for one (no cafe£, doesn't have one.

This store is a decent store but isn't a great place to do a weekly shop mainly due to the stock there, but on the other hand i does have some cool things about it, including being the home to Blackburn's Amazon Lockers which are quite a cool way to receive and return parcels when sold directly from Amazon. This supermarket also has a cafe. In some ways, it just feels like it has been left behind, walking up to the supermarket in a way feels like walking into an abandoned building, there is so much empty space and sadly it just doesn't feel nice. Overall, the selection in stores is quite poor for most items, even the gluten free selection was poor as well as the selection for other items as well. The staff didn't seem too helpful either, and that's if I could even find them! The game selection was so poor, there was probably about 4 or 5 games with some prices of good value and some prices highly overpriced, but it was so few in number they might as well not have it, and it was just a fraction to what I would normally see in a supermarket elsewhere, for example this game selection was smaller than what you would see for just one console in another supermarket. Frustrating. Overall, the store not only lacks the feel of a good supermarket, it has a poor selection too with some items which were highly overpriced, while also taking poor service into account I sadly feel the only two strong points for this branch of Morrisons is the location and having Amazon Lockers, which in its' own isn't enough to warrant anything over a single one star, in all honesty the Amazon Lockers would even be better to be located across the way in The Mall.

It is probably the largest convenience store in the city centre, stocking a range of essentials and a little bit more over two floors, you can get between the floors using an escalator, but there also is lift access (the lift is super slow though and has been for years!). There is a decent selection of to-go food and drinks, including a Costa Express coffee machine, you can also find the occasional item on the small yet useful hot food counter, but that does tend to go fast. The layout of the store is easy to follow, I personally dislike the two-floor format for a store like this, as it means having to spend more time going up/down escalators and searching around the store, this is the type of store you want to get in and out quickly, and being over two floors and a lack of supporting mobile payment similar to Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer nearby, there are drawbacks. Most of the staff seem friendly and helpful, but there are a couple of bad apples. There are plenty of self-service checkouts, and a couple of manned checkouts too, there always seems to be a handful of machines either not in use or broken down, so there's always a wait at the checkout for some reason. The prices are much higher now than they were under the Tesco Metro brand, so you are paying a good bit more than you would in a regular Tesco store, which is annoying! 4* - A good and large store in the city centre, yet could be far better.

A typical large Tesco store, where you go in through a sheltered car-park and then up a high gradient walkway into the main store, there is also a lift if you prefer which is right by the Costa Coffee location which is inside the store. The store could do with some TLC from some areas to match the modern, large, grand exterior with the slightly outdated interior. The selection in most areas was pretty good, they had a great selection of branded ready meals and soups but this came at the expense of their Tesco Finest selection, which I actually prefer. While they had a fantastic selection of booze, I do find their to-go food range was a little disappointing, most other areas were average/good. Scan as You Shop Facilities are offered by this store, like most big supermarkets now, they also have the newer, more modern scanners (only in a selected number of stores) which I find are cooler and easier to use, making your shopping experience much quicker. The staff are friendly too. 4* - My favourite out of the supermarkets in Burnley town centre, not a bad Tesco location for sure.

They have better deals, a better selection (well, the bigger ones like the Burnley location does anyway), and a healthy book aisle. Truly one stop shopping, Tesco is a discovery waiting to happen. One criticism of this location in particular is that they keep moving things-- it may not seem like a huge deal, but when you're used to finding your, oh, minced turkey in one place and then all of the sudden it's not there anymore, it's a little off-putting. Also, they stop carrying things every so often. Not just run out of it-- just completely stop selling it, without warning or notification. Like Method hand soap and Tom's toothpaste. Who's with me to join the campaign for consistent products at Tesco? (Or at least to get them to keep carrying the stuff they used to sell?). In any case-- yay, Tesco!
