Perched right on top of a hill, the view is gorgeous and the whole space has a romantic, polished vibe - definitely a cute spot for couples to hang out or snap a few scenic pics (which is what my gf and I did). That said, the wines themselves were just okay. Nothing stood out too much, and most of what we tasted felt a little forgettable. I have not been to this area of the Finger Lakes to taste wine, so it was nice to try new wineries in the area and Heron Hill was one of them. My boyfriend and I checked to see if there was availability that day, and low and behold there was. There was availability at the exact same time my mom and aunt were there, and we ended up wine tasting with them, which was nice and unexpected. It was kismet. The man pouring our wine was really awesome and I really enjoyed listening to him. My boyfriend and I went with the reserve tasting and I am so glad we did. This was a horrible experience. We arrived on time for our reservation for four. Instead of seating us together, they sat three of us at the bar and the fourth jut outside of our group. When we asked to be seated together at an area where there were four seats together, the staff refused saying those were reserved. We said we had reservations for four as well. After much complaining, the staff finally moved us to a table for four, but was inattentive because, as one staff member said, they were overbooked due to an event. WOW! What a stunning winery with great views, unique wine selection, and a pleasant bar staff. We are staying on Keuka for the week and made this a "must stop" on our first Sunday. You have to make reservations for tastings during the COVID times, and they are doing a nice job with distancing and masking. I tried a variety of red and white wines, with some standouts being the red eclipse, cab franc, and the pinot noir rosé - the last of which I grabbed a bottle of. The baris spacious and great for a group if booking in advance. There are a few different options for outdoor seating as well. Given the current "you must eat with your drinks" guidelines, we ordered some pepperoni and DELICIOUS cheddar cheese, with yummy pita chips that were great leftover. Awesome winery with delicious wines, great atmosphere, and wonderful views! Came here for a tasting with a group of 10 and they had everything set up and ready for us the second we walked in. Our server was incredible, she explained each of the wines on the list to choose from each round and brought us plenty of crackers to snack on throughout the tasting. I tried the 5 sweet wines and they were all delicious, refreshing and bold in flavor. My favorite was the Lady of the Lakes Blush. It was bubbly with hints if strawberry, raspberry, and pomegranate. This is a hard review because I have always loved supporting local wineries. We arrived to find a beautifully decorated tasting room overlooking the gorgeous lake view. There was one tasting host and one table being served. We decided since we were already familiar with the wine and we would just enjoy our favorite. To our surprise we were not allowed to sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the tasting room, but had to drink it next to the register in the store area where you buy merchandise. A small table was against the windows cramped and not awkward. We ordered our bottle only to feel uncomfortable with patrons shopping around us and not able to enjoy the ambiance of the tasting room. It was disconcerting that we support this brewery and have a favorite and because we don't do the tasting we are not able to enjoy ourselves. The tasting room had plenty of room, so it was clear to us this was their protocol. Lastly the employee Was curt, not very happy, and we felt I welcomed. Odd experience. Our sommelier, Jay, was very personable and made our experience wonderful. I normally drink reds but I must say I was very impressed with their Rose'. It was so crisp and light. We really enjoyed it. We did take some bottles home. lol. We also loved the reserve Pinot Nior. It was fruity, light and dry. They have limited seating so you will need to book an appointment. Heron Hill is huge and has tons of seating inside and outside, including a terrace with an incredible view of Keuka Lake. Even though Heron Hill makes delicious award winning red and white wines, we really just came for the reds. And they certainly were impressive. Service wise, it took forever to get our wine glasses filled between tastings and we were left sitting there for long periods of time. Meanwhile, the group of 4 that arrived later than us was somehow getting priority over us, which is so not cool. When we finally flagged our server down, we asked her if we could just get the rest of our wines for our tastings in one go, as we had to dash to another winery. So we quickly chugged down ounce after ounce of wine. Super classy, I know. We got these bags of oyster crackers to clean our palates in between tastings but they were stale. Not that I'm actually complaining, I'm more than happy that we don't have to order food and wait even longer. Anyway, come for the wine and the view, but be prepared to wait long between tastings. read more

In times like these, it was good to see a winery use some common sense in protecting their visitors. Unlike some other wineries, you sit at well-spaced tables, with plenty of ventilation. We were taking two younger family members (over 21) on their first wine tour, and the server was great in answering their questions and explaining each of the pours. My wife and I had visited Heron Hill a number of years back, when we were working in California, and were looking for an opportunity to return. This is one of the only vineyards we visited where I liked the majority of the wines I tasted. One of the nicest views we saw from a winery tasting room. I tasted 5 sweet wines and would buy 3 of them. I bought a bottle of Reserve Late Harvest Vidal Blanc 2017 (a very sweet dessert wine). I would also buy the classic semi-sweet Riesling 2017 and the classic semi-dry Riesling 2017. My husband loved the reserve velvet, but it was not one of my favorites. The only wine I disliked was the Ingle Vineyard Riesling 2017. My husband tasted four dry wines. His favorite was the reserve old vines riesling 2016. He didn't care for the Reserve Gewurztraminer 2017, the reserve chardonnay unoaked morris vineyard 2017 or the reserve chardonnay oaked macri vineyard 2017. I didn't find anything special to buy at their gift shop, and we didn't dine in their outdoor cafe. read more

Heron Hill was one of our favorite wineries in FLX. The space is absolutely beautiful. I read that it was rated one of the nicest tasting rooms in the country, and I can completely see why. From the hilltop, you can see the rolling vineyards leading to Keuka Lake. Truly stunning. The inside space itself is also very nice; this will be a lovely venue for special events. The wines themselves were also delicious. We had been to eight wineries before Heron Hill, and we could immediately tell that these wines were of a higher quality. We particularly enjoyed the Rieslings. We went at 2pm on a Saturday, and the tasting room was packed, but that is to be expected. After we nudged our way to the bar, we had a great experience. We went here at 10:15 am on Saturday. There were 4 of us that wanted to taste. The women at the counter was less than friendly. She asked if we had a reservation and we stayed no. I did not make one because there website stated we did not have too. She said we can not accommodate you until tomorrow. You can buy a glass of wine. We then told her that I am a case club member and I just wanted to try the new years. She said it didn't matter and they only had one person to help everyone.we look in the tasting room and there were only 4 people in there. I was planning on buying a lot of wine because this use to be my favorite place. This women was the rudest person so we say that's fine and left. They had just opened and it was a Saturday. To think they were not prepared to take care of tasting is just crazy. The women had no empathy or or kindness. Needless to say I will tell multiple people about my experience and sadly may not be buying wine from them. I currently do not recommend. I need to update / revise my previous review because I didn't do it justice, as Heron Hill Winery deserves a 5 out of 5 stars. We started our Keuka Lake wine and brewery journey at Heron Hill, and after visiting many other wonderful places in the area, decided to end our trip by going there again, my experience was that good. The location is gorgeous, a pretty elegant building set on top of a hill with a beautiful view overlooking the vineyard and Keuka Lake, may be the best view of the lake I saw all week. The first visit, we walked in without reservations and were seated right away (I do recommend reservations though, as I'll explain later). We each chose the Reserve tasting, which I believe was about $15 for a choice of 6 wines. The tasting room is beautiful, spacious and bright with a high ceiling, the whole room is reminiscent of a wine barrel, with the tasting bar along one side facing a wall of windows with the aforementioned view. We looked over the list of 12 wines to choose from. I went down the list of the reds. Our host Kelsey was wonderful and friendly, and explained each nicely, and was honest with her own opinions as well. The highlight for me was the Reserve Baco Noir 2017 (RS 0%, AVA: Finger Lakes 13.6% alc). I had never had Baco Noir before, and it was beautifully balanced and delicious, I can't do the flavor notes justice, I'll leave that to others, but it was good enough by the end of the week I think we went 3 times to pick up more bottles ($29.99). I'm also glad I got to try the Ingle Vineyard Baufrankisch 2017 ($39.99), apparently only 46 cases were made, and they were out of it by the end of the week. Kelsey was also nice enough to promote the Weis winery, which we later visited and loved. We tried to return in the middle of the week without reservations but it was full so we made reservations for our last night at Keuka Lake. We arrived for our 4pm reservation, and the table wasn't ready yet, so we waited about 20 minutes. No big deal, we just walked around and enjoyed the cute shop and the view. We didn't mind or complain at all, but a staff member (not sure if she was a manager??) apologized to us and promptly gave us a 50% refund! (I got it right away via email). She did NOT have to do that, but it was very gracious. This time our host was Becky, every bit as friendly and informative as Kelsey. This time they were out of the Baufrankisch, so I had the Reserve Gruner Veltliner 2017, which Becky described as between a Riesling and a Gewurztraminer, with notes of honey, which was a great description, and definitely could pick up the honey. A bit too sweet for my taste, but very good. We also chose a Cabot cheddar cheese pairing which was nice as well. Overall a wonderful experience, not just because of the wine, the setting, and the view, but because of the staff! read more

If you don't want to visit wineries when there are crowds go the day before Thanksgiving because we had the place to ourselves. The staff could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. It was so slow that with our WXXI card we did not just get a discount we got a totally free tasting for the four of us! Thank you! Though the fall colors had faded the view of Keuka Lake from above was beautiful. The wines for the most part were all good and we even got to try some of the more expensive pours without the extra charge. A great space and a great way to kick-off the holiday weekend. read more

Heron Hill also partnered up with Harvest Host so you can park your RV overnight you have to be a Harvest member and follow the guide lines.Back to the wines there truly wasn't a wine that we didn't like we had 5 in our group and we all had a favorite mine wase the Chardonnay's. Of the 9 wineries we visited Heron Hill is by far the best. They recently hired a new wine maker Jordan Harris who makes wonderful Reds & Great Chardonnay's, I promise you when his wines hit the tasting you'll have the wow factor.
