We did encounter a few billing issues and, due to our early return, weren't able to speak with anyone at the counter before leaving. However, once we reached out to Hertz, the responsiveness and professionalism we received were excellent. Manager Leigh Mitchell personally followed up with an email, apologized, and ensured the issue was corrected. We truly appreciated her attention to detail, the follow-through, and the commitment to customer service. A President's Circle here, and that means nothing to them. I reserved a premium car, and they wanted to give me a RAM 1500, because he said it's "premium" there. I end up getting Hyundai Tuscon. Then when I returned, they told me I had to get the miles for them. Before I could say something another employee stepped in and took the keys. I after landing in another city. I see they scanned my vehicle 3 hours after the return time and charged me another day. I called the office sharing I had proof I was there before the time. They said respond to the email with the proof. And to my surprise they added another day. Charging me 3 days for a 1 day rental. I have escalated this issue to BBB, also pursing other avenues. read more

I rented an SUV for 1 week using my Plat Amex benefits. Through them I have Presidential Circle status. The rate was a little more than $500 for the week. I asked for my free upgrade. Was told there was nothing bigger because they are being saved for the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta in 10 days. There were several things I had to sign on the signature pad like insurance and gas stuff. Then as I was being handed the keys, I was told that I can't drive the car west of the Mississippi river. Nothing in the online rental information, or at the desk or kiosk has this mentioned in terms or conditions. There is a tattered, faded map of the United States scotch taped to the counter with certain states grayed out that is supposed to serve as a "notice" that you can't drive the car that far, although mileage is "unlimited". The agent called his boss and told him my situation and the boss still refused to make exception. I immediately had to cancel the rental because we were driving to New Orleans for spring break the next day. They didn't have a way to refund me on the spot. I had to wait several days. Then on top of that they didn't refund me the entire amount so I had to take it up with Amex. So you know what, I drove to Augusta and got an SUV from Avis for even cheaper and no restrictions. Also to note: The same franchisee owns all of the Hertz Rent a Cars in SC with the exception of Rock Hill. This geographical restriction is his personal restriction not corporates. How he gets to do this, I do not know as franchisees have a set of term and conditions to uphold. So writing bad reviews probably doesn't bother them because it's not like you can just go to the Hertz down the road. I've used Hertz as my go to for all of my business travel due to my Amex perks but now I have to look elsewhere because that just seems shady. read more

we rent a car for three days and it's cost us $398.88 and we call to extend one more days it's cost us $318.93. And I call to extend the customer service never explain if I extend another day it will charging us additional &318.93 on top. This Hertz car rental places is like high interest loans that rape people that rent a car with them. When I pick up a car and it's say full tank of gas but only 80% full. when I return and they another $66.59 and the total of $783.81. As all the other reviews say on Yelp and Google, avoid this place at all costs. Rented a 7 passenger SUV online at 7 am, showed up to pick it up at noon and was told they didn't have one. Why couldn't you have called me to tell me you don't have it so I wouldn't waste my time coming to the airport?? On top of that, they say well we have a luxury SUV thats 7 passenger for an additional $150. You should have said, hey we messed up, we are going to comp the luxury vehicle we do have available that suits your needs this time so you can go on your way. Nope, the attendant couldn't care less. The website is horrible. You go to look up your rental and Hertz will tell you that they can't find it, even though they've emailed and texted you 1000+ times by then about your rental. You have to keep signing in, and you can't just find your rentall once you do, you still have to provide the confirmation number. This website is really horrible, always crashing. It's so bad, and when you call customer service they tell you a fee will be charged to your rental for speaking to someone so you should really just use...the website. I hate it here. read more

AWFUL!!! The worst costumer service ever!! There are other car rental establishments located in the air port that definitely have their business in order! I had made reservations months in advance and had my vehicle rented out from underneath me. This left me stranded at the air port and the Hertz staff were nothing but disrespectful. I advised them that I was in need of a rental and was told they had no vehicles. I stated that I understood but mine was a reservation rental. I rented a Full Size Vehicle through AAA, Hertz reservation was arranged to pick the vehicle up from CAE, (Columbia Airport). The drop of location was changed back to the pick up location and the price went up. I only put less than 250 miles on the vehicle, but was charged Double the rate, for the same vehicle the following weekend. SAME TIME/SAME LOCATION. was HUNDREDS LESS, and to add insult further, I find that I'M A GOLD PLUS MEMBER!!! My research will be more diligent. Now I understand why I NEVER see a Hertz commercial where I'm from.. For the price I paid, a Ride Share Service would have been less.. Basing this solely on the fact that after 10 hours of flight hopping standby from Minneapolis to Columbia...the lady at the counter transferred our rental from Charleston to Columbia so we could drive to our hotel and vacation! After a day of rough flights Hertz had us from counter to car in 15 minutes! No complaints! read more

My experience with Hertz rental locations has been the Piney Grove Rd. and Lexington locations. I tend to avoid the airport because I rarely need to rent a car and when I do it's usually for economy and not a business travel situation that has me in the airport. The service at the Lexington location is excellent depending on the person who helps you. They recently moved from a nice strip mall location to a location that resembles a fall out shelter...after the bomb. I'm not sure what Hertz was thinking but the decor included light bulbs hanging from the ceiling, a window air conditioner that couldn't keep up and carpet that is just too horrible to describe. The employees were even embarrassed about the facilities and the manager assured us they were remodeling soon. Darcie helped us and she was fast, polite and made it a great experience. We appreciated her so much we continued going back and started renting from the Piney Grove location when she switched locations. We rarely rented cars but found the experience easy enough where we'd consider economy cars for trips instead of taking our SUVs. The Piney Grove location is very efficient, very organized and the staff really knows what they're doing. Darcie stayed after closing time when we were stuck in horrible traffic on the way there. She remembered my wife being bad with directions and had a car with navigation waiting for her without us asking. Very personal and attentive service. If I were renting for business and required efficient and dependable service I would visit this location for all of my rental needs. read more

Never will rent with Hertz again! My mom's flight was delayed and I got to the airport around midnight and was tired from traveling. We had a miscommunication and I ended up paying for unnecessary insurance coverage. Unfortunately the manager was not understanding of the situation and would not issue a refund for the extra $170 charged to my card. I made the mistake of not reading through the fine print, yes. But I was traveling with a baby and with the chaos of my mom not being here and I was under the impression that everything was already taken care of. I feel taken advantage of and now the only thing I can do is leave a bad review. Terrible customer service! read more

Absolutely horrible!! Had a reservation to pick up at 1130pm showed up at 1120 only to find that the 1 employee decided to go home early when the hours are until 1230. The employee at the other car Randal place called her and her response was she didn't know our flight information so she had the right to leave someone stranded at an airport at midnight for a car they had pod for in advance. Don't pre-pay for gas. You will not get any of you money back if you return the car with gas in it. I was not informed of this policy. When I asked about a refund of the pre-paid gas upon returning the car, the lady pointed to a small card sitting on the counter that mentioned their non-refund policy. I told that this policy should be MENTIONED to the customer before one purchases pre-paid gas. The car I rented was fine. read more

I paid for my car months in advance so that I could just pick the car up and leave. Let start with, I go to pick my car up and I tell the lady that I have reserved a car, apparently she didn't listen to me at all! She does something things then asked if I would like to buy insurance on the car, I nicely explained to her that I already paid for the car and it already is insured because I bought the extra insurance. Then she asked me if I would like to add a driver, I said yes because my husband was going to do the driving. At NO point did she tell me they were going to charge me $110.00 for the extra driver! DO NOT RENT FROM THEM! When I came to pick up my car after I got off my flight. I went to the Hertz front desk, gave the lady my confirmation number and she asked me if I needed insurance and didn't tell me if there was an extra charge. I knew that there was an added charge and I said no to everything that was optional service. She said okay are you sure... I said yes I don't need the insurance I have my own car insurance. Guess what she added the Loss Damage Waiver protection plan without my approval. Charged me an extra $29.99 a day and I had the car for 2 days. Don't book with them also, they have a deposit charge of $341 and they don't tell you that before you book with them online. They tell you at the counter when you get there. Go with enterprise. They actually go through everything with you to make sure that those are the right charges. read more

As a Hertz Presidents Circle member, I rent a lot of cars for business. This location has to have been my worst rental car experience of all time. I was not picked up as promised, so had to take a cab to the location on Piney Grove road. Upon arrival, there was not a single rental car on the lot. 45 minutes later, I was on my way. I was charged for Sirius radio, which had not been activated on the car. The attitude of the office really left a sour taste in my mouth. Just flew into Columbia SC last week. Had a reservation for a car for over a month. Called the morning of travel to make sure everything was OK because we would be arriving late at night, and was assured it was. Reservation was made with flight, so they (Hertz) know when to expect you. My flight arrived 15 minutes early. Upon arrive at baggage claim, where the car rental places are, found the Herz desk was dark, and no one was there. The Avis folks saw me and waved me over, they told me that Hertz doesn't hold the car for you when you reserve it, not their policy. Avis had been renting 50-60 cars out to Hertz customers, because Hertz was out of cars. Apparently they rented out the last car they had and left. Fortunately I got the second to last car Avis had left. I received no notification that there was no car for me, and (later found out), there should have been someone there, they were not supposed to be closed. Spent an hour the next day, of my vacation, talking to 7 different hertz people on the phone and getting no where. I did get a generic email from Hertz customer service saying to not respond to the email, and the phone number I got from the email, when I called was said no one is here, like my experience at the airport. My advise is DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT reserve, or rent from Hertz at this location. Why do we bother reserving a car at Hertz if they don't hold a car for you? read more

Just an update from previous post. After talking to several people on the phone (9 over a couple of hours), finally found out that if you do have a problem that needs to be resolved with Hertz you can't talk to a person about it. You have to send an email (or US mail) to the customer "relations" department, and hope that they respond to you. I asked if there was a number you could call to get an update on my claim, answer NO. I asked jokingly if it would take a month for them to respond, the answer was 7 - 10 business days. It's been 6 days, nothing so far. Either customer "relations" at Hertz is one guy in a dark office somewhere in India, or they get a TON of complaints that they have to resolve. Either way you have to hope if you rent with Hertz, that: A. They have a car for you to rent when you get there B. That you don't have any kind of problems with car or the rental When you want to make a reservation to rent a car you can talk to someone at Hertz within one minute, when you what to resolve an issue you have to wait 30 minutes on hold, to talk to someone who will tell you to send an email and go away... I had to drop off a car for a family friend who was running late for his flight, and Robin was of great assistance. My sister and I flew in from Southern California for the first time so we were a bit lost. She helped us return the car and made things run smoothly. She was so sweet and extremely helpful. If I could negative stars I would. Arrived at hertz counter at 8am on Saturday to pick up reserved car. No agent in sight. Finally found out there was no agent and went to parking lot, tracked down the women who was returning cars, convinced her to come in get our reservation, this took close to an hour. Then when went to car parking spot was blocked in by long line of parked returned but not checked in cars. No one around to move them. Finally leave airport close to 30 mins later and this all results in our missing any local drop of time by us in NJ and hertz saying we will need to pay an extra $335 or drive 45 mins and drop off at airport. I called, talked to supervisor, tweeted, nothing but incompetent and uncaring people. Done with Hertz....Avis for me! read more

Is it possible to give negative stars? The customer service on a corporate and local (Gervais Street) level is horrible. I was picked up an HOUR late. After speaking with the location multiple times to give them directions to my pickup location ( less than 1.5 mi. from their location), they were still an hour late, charged me for services I did not request and did not have the car I requested availble. I was offered no compensation, just the option to wait ANOTHER hour for a car with GPS to become available. There was also an issue with my billing, and after waiting 20 minutes for national customer service, they inform me that the rental location will have to make any changes and then maybe I will be reimbursed for a service I specifically did not request. The services I do request I don't get and the service I don't want, I'm charged $50.00. This must be one of the circles of hell dealing with this awful company. I previously rented at least 5x year from this location. I will never, never rent from this, or any Hertz, again. read more

I wish I could give negative ratings. I returned a car here after driving it from Hertz at Gaylord National Hotel at National Harbor in Maryland. I will post a bad review under that location as well. It took an hour from the time I arrived at the office in Md to actually get the car (a DIRTY Chevy Malibu). The front bumper was hanging off and it was dirty both inside and outside. There were even diapers in the trunk although it didn't smell. Upon returning the car to the office in Columbia I was about an hour and the half late so they charged me an extra day! I had even called the office to tell them I was running a little late and they said it was fine. But once I got to the office after driving around the airport forever because I couldn't find it because it was poorly marked, they still charged me an extra day! I was so mad. My experience at the Hertz rental car location at Piney Grove Rd was HORRIBLE. I reserved a rental car for week online and paid for the service in advance. Big mistake when I arrived the representative Chase was not courteous, not a good listener, & unprofessional. I paid for a fullsize vehicle online in advance which online shows a picture of a "Chevy Malibu" or similar. So when I got to the Hertz off Piney Groove the representative name Chase walk me outside and shows a smaller midsize vehicle. Then he immediately trys to upsell on Chevy Malibu stating that he can upgrade to the Chevy Malibu for only a little more than I paid. Remind that I paid for a full size vehicle in advance which online displays an exact picture of a Chevy Malibu which is what I already paid for in advance. So basically Hertz Corporation this company they are CROOKS. How they do business is they has customers pay for a class vehicle online they display a picture stating it can be this "specific car" or similar but when you get to the location they tell you have to pay MORE MONEY for the same exact class vehicle that you paid for. This is BAD BUSINESS its sad the customer who pays in advance and tries to do business fairly gets treated the worse. If I had not paid in advance the I would of had no problems whatsoever getting the Chevy Malibu and leaving for vacation today. Instead this representative Chase refused to issue me a refund at the location since I declined the service for them trying to charge me more for the same car class I paid for. I had to go Enterprise and reserve a vehicle for tomorrow all because of Hertz shady business practices. The worse part about it is the when I explained and showed Chase the picture of the Chevy Malibu which it said online this car was in the class I paid for. The representative had the nerve to tell me even though it said you could get a Chevy Malibu and that what you paid for this car has Leather Seats and Satellite Radio??? This is the most INSANE STATEMENT I ever heard in my life from a representative at whats suppose to be a Corporate professional organization. Customers DO NOT rent vehicle for car features they rental vehicles according to CAR CLASS which means Compact, Midsize, Fullsize, Premium, Or SUV. A Chevy Malibu is a FullSize vehicle which is what I paid for online which I have receipts and screenshots showing the this car fit in to the category that I paid. This representative trying get cheat me out of my money, delaying my vacation, and stating I have to pay more for a vehicle because it has leather seats. This absurd I could care less about the features I paid for a fullsize car because of the space I needed had nothing to do with features. The fact this company shows a Chevy Malibu online have you pay for it in advance. Then tell you have to pay even more when you get to location shows this is a UNSCRUPULOUS BUSINESS that has shady business practices whom I wont ever attempt to do business with again. To top it off Chase would not issue me a refund nor the manager at the location. I had to call Corporate to fight for a refund even though I did not use the service. I had to go to my bank to dispute the transaction to get my money. What kind of a company would try to keep a customers money that does not business with them??? Hertz Rental is a bad company to do business with. This is shady company that have you pay for a vehicle online in advance then say you have to pay for it when you get to the location. Then if you decline the service they won't issue a refund at the location. You will have to call Corporate and File A Dispute At Your Bank just to get a refund. Don't pay for anything in advance or even consider business with this shady company. read more
