My car was being serviced down the street at Coulter Cadillac and they were fresh out of loaners, so they Lyfted me here and paid for a rental car to keep me placated while my car was being serviced. The car was a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu. It was fine, aside from being kind of dirty on the inside. We've been using Hertz for 40 years and although the corporation has certainly gone downhill in terms of its processes etc, we have continued to use them for car rentals because the Gold Club is a convenient feature when we travel. We used this location several times in the last couple of years for weekend local rentals and our experience was abysmal. The customer service here is actively passive-aggressive, or maybe just aggressive. The final blow was my showing up with a confirmed reservation and being told they didn't have a car for me. This location is not in a part of town where you want to be stranded without a car. We now use the Enterprise on 7th Street which I would highly recommend. If you're doing a short-term rental out of a small location there is literally no reason to use Hertz. read more

Worst rental car experience ever. I needed to get a car for a quick trip. Get a free check in online got there 40 minutes before my pickup time there was one person behind the counter people had been there for 3 Plus hours... After the woman behind the counter who was doing everything by herself even though there was at least three men behind the door not helping her at all, she attempted to check me and somebody else in at the same time and realized they had no cars... Then the manager came out and said he should have called us in the morning.. and that if we wanted to wait around and see if maybe somebody brought in a car for a few hours or we could just leave.. at that time was over an hour past my schedule pickup time and I was just sucking up precious time so I left and took my own car.. the entire ordeal ended up ruining my first day as my father had went with me cuz he was going to take my car back so then I had to take him home before leaving.. the manager was extraordinarily rude, and I didn't get a car at all. Then I come home from my trip and check my credit card and they actually charged me for the car anyways the audacity. I rent cars at least five times a year last year probably nine times, never have I had to wait so long and not even get a car that was the craziest part.. and then to be charged on top of it the insult like the big fat rotting cherry on the pile of crap that this place is... So i came here because my deal ship has a partnership with them for rental cars. The dealership customer service is fantastic so to come here delivered by the dealership and to receive no customer service not even a hello was startling. It's free to be nice and helpful. It's the easiest thing to improve businesses. I need a car that would fit 3 adults and the car they presented to me just did not have any leg room in the back for a grown elderly adult. I asked to change the vehicle to another car in the category that I was approved and they told me they didn't have another one. In the mean time people are waiting and there is at least two people in the back room because we can hear them. The manager came out and I asked him if he could call the service at the dealership he said he could not and didn't know who to talk too.... I said service might be a good place to start. I was jet legged and had several bags but I took care of it and in 4 min everything was approved while the manger on duty just stood there .. hertz ended up making an extra $6.00 a day due to my phone call, which I am sure helps their end of day. All and all a smile an extra step can improve businesses and there is no cost to this... also they could use a fresh coat of paint inside the customer service area this is also an inexpensive improvement. read more

I made reservations and paid for my vehicle back on January 3, 2026. On February 19, 2026, I arrived at the airport in Phoenix and was looking for a shuttle to the Hertz/Thrifty off site location at 949 W. Camelback. I was told that there was no shuttle and to find my own transportation to this location. I secured a Lyft and arrived shortly after 5 P.M. to find that the location was closed. The Lyft driver took me to my destination, to the tune of $75. I then called this location at 8 A.M. the next morning and no one answered the phone. I then called Hertz/Thrifty at the Phoenix airport and was told they had no cars available. I cancelled my reservation and then made a reservation with National Car Rental. I had to secure transport back to the airport (40 miles) to pick up my National rental. I've now started a claims process with Hertz/Thrifty hoping to get at least part of my rental payment back. DO NOT use this location, as you're asking for trouble. I WILL NEVER use Hertz/Thrifty car rental again. read more

The only downside is we got caught in the Southwest cancellation debacle and neither their neighborhood location nor the CSR via the Gold member call center could assist is in a one way rental so we could drive back home. read more

Pretty sure this will sound similar to other reviews but here we are.. why would you list a vehicle for rental if you do not actually have the vehicle? I used AAA to rent from Hertz & just like others have previously stated, it will not happen again. I had booked the reservation weeks in advance for a larger SUV to fit 6+ people. Was told I would have that size vehicle or a similar one on October 8th of this year. Arrived and noticed it was only one person working the store & there were other guests waiting. Totally no worries, we don't mind waiting. We saw a larger SUV in the parking lot of their vehicles and naturally assumed that would be the one we would be getting. Once it was my turn to look up my reservation, the woman at the desk again asked how many people would be in the car and I repeated 7. The woman at the desk goes into the parking lot and looks around and then comes back in the lobby but goes into a back room. The door jingle goes off as if she went back out a back door and shortly comes back in again. At this point we have been at this location for 30 minutes with no information as far as what is happening and what the issue is. After we hear the door jingle again we hear multiple voices talking in the back room. Still no one has come out to talk to us about our reservation. After almost an hour of waiting we hear a man say "and that's why you're the boss." Shortly after that, the woman from the desk comes out to say that our reserved vehicle is not actually here and they do not have one at their location that would meet our needs. After an hour this is what we are told. We are then told that another location - Avondale, 30 minutes west of where we currently are, had a "similar" vehicle. When we asked about the larger suv on the lot, we were told that the suv was reserved for someone else. We asked about a discount as now this was already over an hour behind schedule of getting our rental and getting on with our trip. Lindsey (lady from the desk) says let me see what I can do. After another 15 minutes she comes back out with another guy who looks like he could possibly be a manager but as he didn't introduce himself or speak to us, we had no clue. Lindsey informs us that they can give us $50 off our next rental to which I reply there won't be a next rental. I ask, why can we not just rent the suv that's already here as we are here and the reservation we were supposed to have was similar to that one? Now the reply is oh that's a different class, but wait it actually isn't available because it now needs maintenance. Why would you tell someone two different stories in a span of 15 minutes? Why would you rent a car out that you don't even have?? During this last conversation with Lindsey, the man who came out was making faces from behind the desk. When confronted about it, he said he wasn't making faces even though we could clearly see. The unprofessional behavior was ridiculous. The amount of time we sat waiting with no update was so rude. I don't work in customer service but most jobs will tell you to at the very minimum just keep people updated. We spent over an hour sitting and waiting with no updates. When faced with these complaints it was like every response from Lindsey was a scripted response. read more

This is the second rental at this location. It is not adequately staffed and some staff are not equipped to deal with customers. This time I waited close to an hour. One attendant who during my exit had only handled one customer and had started working in the next customer when another attendant came out. Got a car that was so dirty that I could not see well out of mirrors or windshield. There was not a body panel that was not badly scratched or dented. Also chip in windshield. Go in and women indicates she has documented all damage though they never share with me Took Photos of damage and leave and a light comes on. Car is a year old with over 40,000 miles Horrible location. Check Engine light came on and attempted to exchange for another vehicle. Waited 40 minutes and was told if I wanted a different car than a Jeep without a running board I would have to pay 30 dollars a day extra. I am here for surgery at Mayo and have a handicap placard. Returned the car and needed to fill up 3 gallons of gas. I know it's more expensive to have the rental place fill up the gas, but $10.50 per gallon is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. I was not told about this before "my contract was closed", so I was not allowed to go fill up the remaining gas and had to pay $40 instead. Avoid robbery. read more

She continues to say leave the keys in the car and she'll email me a receipt. She is also very nice and took the time to print out my receipt so I could have a hard copy as well. Worst experience ever. Booked a car for a week rental. Went to pick it up. I told Ash I could give him a card to put on file but I'd like to pay with another card and enter it manually. He said okay. I reminded him again multiple times after. He told me to put the card in the machine though. I even asked if I could take it out before the payment goes through, he said "no," nothing else. To no surprise that card got declined because it was short $35 and I knew that. He then explained I couldn't enter a card manually and he needed a physical card for the payment. So I transferred the money from my bank then asked to swipe it again, they then told me they can't try the same card again for 24 hours... So had to leave with no car and a hatred of hertz. WARNING: Do NOT use this rental car place no matter WHAT. Our horror story: So we are from Ohio, and we fly into Phoenix, our flight was facing headwinds and our flight was a half an hour later than normal. No biggie. When we arrive the Airport Hertz tells us they overbook so we need to head to the W Camelback location. No biggie. We hop into an uber and head to the location. Turns out their hours on their website are INACCURATE. We get there and the doors are LOCKED. Okay sure no biggie we uber for the rest of the day and arrive 15 minutes after opening the next day. As soon as we walk in this woman Trish is on the phone. We wait and wait for her to be done with her call. The phone call ends, and then she decides to take.....another call. We wait and wait and wait for her to be done. Finally she gets off the phone, sighs, and with the biggest attitude goes "Uhh can I help you?" We tell her how we arrived and they were closed, so we are back this morning to get a car. She half laughs and tells us we arent getting a car. She tells us our car was only valid until last night and there is nothing she can do. She does not look at her computer, doesnt call any other location--NOTHING. We ask for a refund and she tells us to call customer service because she wont process it for us. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. Ive never been in a rental car place dealing with a woman as lazy and with such an attitude as this one so PLEASE be warned. We called customer service and guess what? Never again! Hidden fees and they will get you for the smallest damage. I had to get a rental from them through my company. They wouldn't not let my company rent the car, even though it would be paying the bill, so I had to put it under myself even though our company truck was in the shop with Ford and Ford booked the reservation with Hertz for a truck. They messed up and didn't even provide a truck. After the back and forth, finally getting the rental that was not what we requested, the vehicle got a chip on the windshield smaller that my pinky fingernail. They said that I would have to cover the damage, I said ok, thinking they'll fix the chip for maybe $100-$200 at an exuberant cost. They game me a bill for over $900. I started to make noise because that was ridiculous, so she puts me on hold and when she came back, she says they had a fee they didn't take off so it'll be $734... for what! The chip isn't impeding a driver, you wouldn't even notice it as you're driving, but I get a cost to replace the entire windshield?! Picked up a car at Phoenix Airport and immediately returned it due to a loud noise from the front end. The car selection was very limited, they all looked a bit worn out. When I took it back, I spoke to LaSonda at customer service I was a little irate at the selection and quality of cars they had. If it wasn't for her, I would have returned the car, given Hertz a negative rating, and never used them again. LaSonda was so nice, helpful, and got me in a car that didn't look abused and didn't make noises while driving it. It's good to see that Hertz has employes that go above and beyond to help their customers.
