Rented a card from them in the beginning of April because my car was recently in an accident so I needed a car to drive took my credit card and my insurance was paying the other end of it when I went to drop off the car I had for roughly about 10 days. I paid the difference that I owed them for the Rent-A-Car that the insurance didn't pay well now every month they're charging my card for tolls and I haven't had the car for about over a month. They charged me four times plus when I got the car I had an eye pass in there that I switched over that had money on for tolls so I wouldn't rent a car from them because they suck. I don't want anything like this to happen to other people. I'm going there tomorrow because I need a reimbursement. They just charged me $22 for tolls today and I haven't had the car. read more

The staff at this location is extremely rude and unprofessional. I called to see if the vehicle could be picked up early and was greeted by quite possibly the rudest individual I have every dealt with. After a quick conversation about their attitude things got better. I am not your parent, I should not have to tell you to act like a grown professional. The vehicle was FILTHY! I had to clean the vehicle before I would dare put passengers in it. When this was pointed out, there was no solution, no apology, nothing but a shrug. I have three individual $1.00 charges on my company card that I have to provide receipts for. ZERO STARS!! Do. Not. Ever. Rent here!!! They gave away my reservation to another walk in customer and told me they had no more rentals. I asked for an upgrade to another vehicle and they told me to leave!!! I asked for their supervisor's contact information and they told me to get out and started to call the local police!! Very rude, disrespectful and condescending! They made me go to another Hertz rental location more than 30 minutes away as they did not want to honor the rental agreement that I had with Statefarm. We arrived at this office with a valid reservation in hand. They advised us they did not have a car available for us and they could not do anything to help us. The customer service rep suggested we take a car to the airport, 45 minutes away, where they had plenty of cars. We did not have time for this office's apparent repeated ineptitude at managing their fleet. Despite multiple attempts at trying to get assistance from this office, they simply began to ignore the fact that we were even there. After about an hour, the manager showed up. When we advised him of the situation, he said he could not help us and dismissed us with a "have a nice day". We ended up having to scramble to find a car at Enterprise in St. Charles, but at a cost of $170 more than our Hertz reservation, the cost difference that was dismissed by Hertz as "our problem". When we went to pick up the car at Enterprise in St. Charles, their office was not surprised at our story and said that particular Hertz location was notorious for this type of issue. Is anybody at Hertz Corporation paying attention to these repeated location issues? Does anyone at Hertz even care their customers are being treated so rudely and end up renting from a competitor? Does anyone at Hertz care they just lost a #1 Club Gold Member over this issue? Save yourself the money, aggravation and anger at being left without a promised reserved car that you were counting on. Terrible rental experience. It took nearly two hours for them to get the dirty rental car to me because they lost my reservation. They are stating that I didn't return the car when I did, and I was charged for the next renter's tolls. When I went in to ask about the issue, Scott rudely put his hands up in my face and said "I can't help you." The worst service imaginable. I made a reservation on Tuesday for Friday rental. I got a confirmation email and everything. I show up on Friday to pick up the car and I'm told that they don't have my reservation and they can't help. No apologies. Just "there is nothing I can do". I typically won't leave negative Yelp review, but for the St. Charles, Illinois Hertz location, I'll make an exception. We booked and PRE-PAID for our car a week in advance. When we showed up to pick it up this morning, they were out of cars! (Read some of the other reviews...apparently this happens a lot at this location!). Okay, how about refunding our money? You'll have to call 1-800 for that. Horrible service, horrible attitude, worst possible experience. After 7 hours of dealing with this location, Hertz' "Customer Service" department, and another Hertz location, they've managed to charge my credit card for a car rental TWICE, plus a security deposit, with only a vague promise of fixing it at some future date. I've rented cars frequently for business for more than 30 years and have never had a miserable experience like this. What should have taken 10 minutes in their store has taken much of my whole day. I'm not supposed to fix/solve customer service problems, they are! There are lots of car rental companies out there. Throw a dart at the Yellow Pages and you're sure to hit a better one than this! Reserved a car two weeks in advance and when I went to pick it up they didn't have it. I asked if anything would be available later that day and was told that even if they did, insurance rentals have priority over my reservation and I wouldn't get a car. When I asked why didn't notify me he laughed and said that time got away from him and that doesn't change the fact that he didn't have anything. This Hertz location is the best I've been to. I rent a lot of cars for work and the staff here is super friendly and always willing to help. The cars are always clean and they usually have a good variety to suit my needs. We arrived early in the morning on a Monday, there were already 3 customers in the lobby. Only one person was working and looked to be very stressed. The person ahead of us, "said Oh, you got to be kidding me I ordered a midsize vehicle." The Hertz employee drove the very small Chevy vehicle across the street to get gas and then came back. The gentlemen went outside and said, "Sorry I ordered a midsize vehicle." So we had to wait for him to find a correct vehicle for this person. Finally, a second employee arrived and she discovered the second computer didn't operate properly. Finally, it was our turn and luckily they did have a Pacifica for us to rent. We asked if we could have a second driver on our last day back since we will be driving straight back. We asked if we would be only charged for that day. The Hertz employee was so exhausted that he said we will be fine. Well, when we returned the car he said our total bill was an extra $128.79. We said, "what you said that we would only be charged for that one day." He then said it is company policy that the fee gets charged from the first day throughout the cars rental period. This is fine but he should have been very clear about that when we were renting the car. He was so over worked and stressed that He did not take the time to clearly define Hertz rental rules. THESE ARE TOTALLY DISHONEST PEOPLE. I booked a Chevy Impala online Friday Oct. 2nd, and when I arrived the next morning on Oct. 3rd., I was told the Impala was gone. I asked how that could be because I specifically came to this location because that's the car I wanted. He said he didn't know, but he offered a Chevy Blazer at the same price. That wasn't what I wanted, but I had gotten a ride 12 miles from home. He pitched me everything . . . insurance, a full tank of gas. Then when I returned it Monday morning, there were already 3 people in the lobby and only 1 person working the counter. I really didn't want to step in because of Covid 19, but another customer was approaching the door, so I went in and stood against a far wall. Finally, a guy came out from the back and asked if we all were there to book a car, and I said "No, I have a return." He looked at my paperwork, asked where it was and said I was good to go. I asked, "Is there anything else?" And he said NO. I saw the manager outside, and asked him when I would receive my $200 deposit, and he said it would take a couple of days to process it. Now, a day later, someone from there has called me and told me I left the vehicle there with a cracked windshield. I strenuously objected, and stated that it was odd that the "crack" appeared a day after I dropped it off. I also mentioned that I was calling my lawyer. I'm going the Hertz corporate office and complain, and I'm going to continue to complain wherever I can, ie., the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, and the Better Business Bureau. Reserved our rental in May, for a trip in june. Thought time was at 12 went then and must of gotten the time mixed up they told us it was reserved for 5 Went back home and returned at 5:15. There was no one at the desk and another person waiting to return their car not sure where anyone who could help was, Waited 10 minutes and finally Joe came there when we asked to pick up the car he said they close at 5, and to check the website, and that he couldn't help us. Then he said I have to go I'm off at 5, and left us high and dry. Why have us pick up at 5 if you close at 5? Google said they close at 6 and we couldn't find their hours anywhere on their website. Now we had to cancel our trip that was planned months is advanced, and people were counting on us to transport a dog and rabbits. Rented a large 2019 Promaster Van. Employee Steve was very friendly but the experience was bad due to the filthy conditions of the van. The outside windshield was sprayed with bugs and it only had a quarter tank of gas. So first stop was to the gas station. The inside was so disgusting I didn't want to touch anything. Gum on the floor, layers of dust, sticky. So much for Covid cleaning or any other type. Got the van home and the back door wouldn't open as the latch was broken. Thankfully I had the right tool to fix it. Then the side door didn't close well because the rubber seal was half ripped out. Finally the driver side door felt and sounded like it would fall off every time it was opened. I couldn't wait to finish the day and drop it back off. read more

I was a loyal Hertz customer for years. Not anymore. Today, I attempted to book a full size SUV for a week long business trip. I decided to call the location to ensure I was getting a full size SUV because I needed the trunk space for boxes and supplies for my meetings. The Hertz employee that I spoke with this morning and this evening was completely incompetent, unprofessional, and unhelpful. He must have been stoned or drunk because I have never had an experience quite like this. He was unable to answer simple questions and talked back to me when I asked him to clarify. It was unbelievable. In the end, Hertz lost out on a $600 rental because they made the mistake of hiring and retaining this employee. Booked a car for 8 am pick up at the shop since my car was getting dropped off at the shop - got the e-mail confirmation and when the time came no one answered the phone until after 9 AM - the guy told me I would have to find my own way there since he had no one to come get me. He said he was the only one there and was busy making reservations. Well how about letting the customer know ahead of time? (24 year old renter) Needed a rental car for a music festival across the country and procrastinated super hard. It was the day before the fest and we had originally reserved through Enterprise. We had never rented before and didn't know what to expect but enterprise screwed us because they wouldn't let us use a debit card even though we told them on the phone we had no credit card. So we then frantically scoured the area for rental car places and none had cars, until we found this Hertz and they saved the day. If you enjoy frustration with your car rental, Hertz is the company for you. If I could, I would give Hertz zero stars. I had traveled to O'Hare Airport and decided to rent a car at the Hertz Car Rental in St. Charles, and I had booked it a month early. When I went there, to my surprise, it was closed. I never received a notification of their hours when I made reservations, since I put down that my pickup time was 1:00 pm. They close at noon on Saturdays. When does a major car rental company close at noon on Saturday? When I made my reservation, they never informed me of their hours. I would have made different arrangements if they close that early. To make matters worse, their door says they close at 1:00 pm, and I was there at 12:45 pm. It took me 3 phone calls to reach a representative that was able to assist me. I was even told to go back to the airport to pick up another car; even though, I had no transportation. I was to be compensated for those 2 days and to get a better rate for my inconvenience. Three 3 weeks later now, I have not received a credit and Hertz keeps charging me for things I am not aware of. I returned the car filled up full with gas. I know that I have to pay for tolls; however, nothing is clear or documented from Hertz. I have spoken again to two more representatives at the moment, and finally one is trying to process my credit of the 2 days. To make matter worse, they don't understand the extra charge, because they don't see it in their system. Please think twice before renting from Hertz. read more

When I return I was denied an upgrade even though I am a gold member. Briana then gave me a vehicle with half a tank of gas, filthy outside, and out of washer fluid. I called Hertz several days ago and spoke with Erin to set up a rental for today while my car is being repaired at Tri-City Auto. She asked me what time I needed the car and I told her that Tri-City opened at 7:30, so I could be there then. She explained that Hertz also opened at 7:30 so we agreed that 8:00 would be a good time for both of us. I also explained that I would be traveling with a 16 month old and a car-seat in order to ensure this was a good time. So fast-forward to today, I arrive at Tri-City Auto at 8:00 am on the dot and they ask me if I have a rental set up. I explained that yes, I set one up with Erin at Hertz a few days ago and she said they would drop off the rental either the night before or this morning by 8:00. There was no car there, so the gentleman at Tri-City placed a phone call to Hertz and they told him they did not have a car for me. He explained that I had a reservation, and they still said no car, they were all out. This should not have happened and I find it completely rude that Hertz did not even give me a courtesy call to let me know that they would not be able to accommodate me- especially b/c I had reserved this car in advance and I am traveling with a young child, which they knew. Tri-City called Enterprise who came and picked me up and provided me with a rental. I will not be doing business with Hertz again and would advise you to avoid this place. I believe all the other reviews paint an accurate picture of this place and their employees. Sad. read more
