I enjoyed my time here - it is clean and reasonably priced, but not more than a 3-star hotel…read more I stayed here for 4 nights on business. I upgraded to an executive suite. The room was spacious for Europe, with a large bedroom, entryway, and bathroom. The highlight was the patio balcony, overlooking the city. However, I didn't make much use of this, as there were only two chairs, no table, and no recliner on my patio (other patios did have a recliner). The hotel is only steps to the hospital area, and about a 10-minute walk to the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya (through a pretty park). The disadvantages of this hotel are as follows. Firstly, the location. Unless you need a hotel near the hospital, or near the conference centre, this is FAR from downtown (at least 30 minutes by taxi or public transport). There's really not much around. There are some coffee shops and restaurants, but these require 30 minutes walk minimum. Secondly, the rooms are somewhat dated. The bathrooms and carpets need updating. The wifi is terrible - barely usable for email, without an upgrade option. Finally, the gym is very basic. A treadmill (which I couldn't get to work), and elliptical, a couple of bikes, and some free weights. Overall, I was comfortable in my stay, and it was convenient for meetings at the conference centre (and cheaper than the Fairmont). It was worth the stay, but not an outstanding hotel.

The hotel is a bit outdated but the views are gorgeous. My room has a strong odor of a smoker…read more The front desk was kind and sent housekeeping up immediately. Unfortunately, the air freshener sprayed won't do the trick. I will sleep with my window open for fresh air! I'm easy.

Great area for Business stay, clean, simple & convenient. Room we got was upgraded w/ patio & mini living room & kitchenette area. There's NO Bellman, so if you have lots of bags, they'll just give you the luggage cart that barely fits in the elevator you might feel a little claustrophobic, lol. Just fyi, the tub shower stall is really narrow w/ half glass door cover wets the floors & the toilet seat.

We had a junior suite that had a bedroom and living area and they brought us a rollaway bed for my daughter. The bathroom door didn't have a lock and it was glass so anyone else in the room could see inside if they wanted. I really liked the enclosed balcony, it had a table and chairs and was like you were inside and outside at the same time. There were shutters you could open and close to your liking but watch out! Pigeons kept trying to get in and one got stuck between the shutters on the room next to us. The room also had a nice espresso/coffee machine and tea. We had to call down a few times for extra towels, toilet paper and coffee but they brought it right up. We had breakfast included with our room but never actually went. There is a grocery store and a few restaurants within walking distance and the metro was about a mile. It wasn't in a real close location to everything but it was easy enough to get where you wanted to go.

Grand Hyatt Barcelona, which I suppose was known as Hotel Sofia, had a lot of potential. However,…read morethere were some areas we found to be lacking. They did leave us some goodies as they knew we were celebrating our honeymoon! We booked a king bed club level suite, which came with complimentary breakfast, club access, and tapas time (from 5-7pm daily). The tapas were actually pretty good and my favorite of the three options. The club is pretty weak, just snacks and a couple of small bites and a limited option of drinks. Didn't seem like there was a consistent staff member there, but one would pop up occasionally to clear the dirty trays. The not-so-great: rooms aren't very quiet. You can hear sounds and noises from the hallway and outdoors, even on higher floors. It's primarily from other guests, especially annoying when it's later at night. The gym is okay, but some equipment need some up keeping - like the accessories are pretty much all missing from one of the technogym machines. The treadmills also don't have any internet, so you can't log into your technogym account. The elevators are the worst. You have to pre-select your destination and then wait for whichever one you are prompted to go to. It doesn't take into account how big each group is, so sometimes it's a very long wait or gets quite cramped. Other guests also aren't very mindful with their bags, so you can get whacked by their personal belongings... like it occurred with yours truly. We didn't even bother with the gym or spa. It's a tiny pool and pretty busy when we peeked. There's also a lot of children at this hotel, so if you're looking for a relaxing getaway, you should probably look into a boutique hotel. Hotel is a smidge far from the tourist attractions, but it's close to a metro stop and a mall. It's also closer to the airport, which is good if that's what you're looking for!
