I'm going to start this review by stating that I am *not* a gardener - I like looking at gardens,…read morebut I'm definitely not someone who likes getting my hands dirty ;) My partner, on the other hand, LOVES gardening, and has been a member of the Diggers Club for a few years. After a big night out in the city, I suggested that we swing past the Diggers shop in the Botanic Gardens, since we hadn't visited before. Unfortunately, parking was a bit difficult on Plane Tree Drive, but it was still quite nice to walk across the lawns to get to the shop. And what a shop! Although I don't like gardening, I am an artist, so appreciate the aesthetics of this establishment - all the pretty seeds lining one wall! My partner was in heaven - she loved the fact that they don't stock everything in the catalogue, but only the plants that need to be planted now. The seeds that should be sown now are labelled as such - it's all very practical. The staff are very friendly, and are knowledgeable - I assume they may have some sort of horticultural background. All in all, this is a place that even non-gardeners can appreciate!

The store in the Botanic Gardens is a bright, airy space, with beautiful glass overhead and is situated close to the cafe and overlooking the Mediteranean Garden. There's a wide selection of seedlings out the front and various tools as well. Inside is more supplies for the garden and a wall full of seeds, just about every seed you can imagine and then some more! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and there's a coin jar if you want a plastic bag. And if you want to take a look at the beautiful Museum of Botanical History, the door to that is adjacet to the Diggers shop. So you can look at history, then have a coffee, then buy some plants and stuff for the garden! Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in gardening, whatever your knowledge and skill level may be.

Do you enjoy a spot of gardening? If so then you can't go past The Conservatory Garden and Home on…read moreUnley Road. This is a high end garden shop supplying quality plants so you will pay a little more but the benefit is your plants are more likely to survive if they have a good start to life. Plants at The Conservatory are all very lush and the staff do everything from selling single plants, to giving advice on making your garden thrive, to designing complete gardens. With flowering plants, climbers, trees, shrubs and a selection of plants guaranteed to survive Adelaide's extreme weather, the guys at The Conservatory know there business and are happy to share their knowledge with customers. Even if you're not buying, just walking through this garden shop is quite an experience - it's like a mini botanic garden in the midst of suburbia. Inside you'll find The Conservatory is more like a house than a shop and the interior is set up with a range of giftwares and books set out in different rooms. Some of the items you can buy there, you just wouldn't expect to see in a garden shop. In addition to everything else, they can deliver your plants if they won't fit in the car, gift wrap your purchases and will always send you on your way with a smile on your face. If its too tricky to find a park on Unley Road (as is often the case) I find their off-street car parking in Irwin Lane very handy.

The inside is filled (not really suitable for kids, too much to touch and break) with homewares, furniture, decor, prints and lots of pillows. However wonderful this place is to look through, it is very expensive - which makes it exclusive to the higher income market. Everything is of the highest quality though, go and have a look through - if not to buy, just to get ideas!

It's an escape from everyday life and adds a touch of whimsy the stuff dreams are made of. Ok I may have gone on a bit but I simply adore it. I must've had a past life in one of those grandiose French / Italian villas, as I am so drawn to this type of decor. My husband can never understand why I buy these items and put them around the house to gather dust. I then just point out to him that he has his vices and I have mine..so there. Villa Provence is located on Portrush Rd Toorak Gardens right next door to the Trak Cinema. I can't believe they don't have a website or a Facebook page as I'm sure they'd have enough followers to take over Adelaide. Yes it is on the pricey side so pick and choose your pieces carefully if on a budget and if not well you're just plain lucky. There are so many items they can't fit in the shop so it spills over into the walkway inside on the way to the cinema, such as wrought iron chairs and benches, decorative wooden birdcages, book and nic nak display shelving and so much more. And as a note: a little further down the centre corridor at the end on the right is Villa Hamptons! A different feel much like being at the seaside along the Mediterranean, very noyce! You simply have to go there darlings, ta ta.

As far as this sort of stock goes, this shop is great. The merchandise ain't flimsy or weak or fragile. Most of it feels made to last, which is good. The stock's mostly interesting (though it's your usual brand of odd, needless birdcages and stone faces and wrought-iron chairs and whatnot). It's expensive. But I'll concede that the quality of good seems to justify the expense. I think I'll be returning here in a few years. Unless I want my bedroom to match the decor of the store.
