Tarzana Safari Walk - Nice lady painting a flower on my daughters leg

During the pandemic I started to dig deeper and explore more San Fernando valley area where I live…read more Did you know that Tarzana was part of a ranch owned by author Edgar Rice Burroughs and named after its famous character Tarzan? A bit of Valley history here! When I found out about Tarzana Safari Walk I got excited. Unfortunately it's nothing exotic about the area. It's part of Ventura Blvd. with generic stores on it and chain coffee shop. Sometimes they might do a small street fair (maybe that was years ago). Now it's just a regular block in the Valley. No exotic walks or hikes. Just yiur regular urban jungle!

Today my kids and I enjoyed the annual Safari Walk/Sidewalk Fair in Tarzana. Many activities take…read moreplace while you dine and shop along Ventura Blvd at Yolanda Ave. Activities included: face painting, balloon twisting/animals, music, drum & dance performance, martial arts performance, lectures on Tarzana history & more! Face painting & balloons: it was super hot today so my son opted for having something painted on his arm other than his face and sweating it all off and looking crazy. He wanted a skull and the lady did a great job. She was very fast and you can tell she's been doing this for a while! My daughter got a flower on her leg and it was very pretty and done in literally 15 seconds. She also got a flower balloon bracelet that was really cool. Thanks to the 2 wonderful ladies working the booth :) Performances: Sensei Ash Martial arts performed and the kids showed off their martial arts skills. (I wish I took pictures) I noticed it was a mixture of all levels: green belt, orange, blue etc. I was super impressed and my 9 year old now wants to sign up and join. You can tell those kids carry great discipline and confidence as they were doing high kicks and karate chops as well as cool ninja rolling/tumbling on the mat. African Drum & Dancing: this was really fun! I love how they included and interacted with the crowd and taught us the meaning of their dance moves and some of us had the guts to get in front of everyone and dance along. We even learned the words to their chant but I can't remember anymore. They also let kids come up and play drums and other instruments. Pretty awesome :) Live animals: this was scheduled for 2:30pm so we arrived in front of Chase bank where it was taking place but had to wait a while because they were running late. Now when I heard "live animals" for some reason I thought elephants, lions, tigers and bears lol. My kids were pretty disappointed when the "animal show" showed up in storage bins. Reptiles and some birds I believe. After my son pet a snake we left. Oh well. Even though it was just super hot out today that didn't matter. You can see the families enjoying themselves and the kids were happy and having a great time. Looking forward to next year.

I can recall your memory by telling you that we had 6 people in our group, and 3 of them walk out half way, making me feel terrible for having them pay that much for some terrible dad jokes and a sad excuse for "factual" stories. Now I do apologize and will remove this post if I am indeed mistaken. Here's the dishonest review site that was emailed to me after the tour, and below is my email confirmation with purchase ID removed. https://pro.peek.com/reviews/sample/5907ae6893d2da304f00005b/1 Email confirmation: Thank you for making a purchase with Santa Monica Tour Company on 2017-10-18. ORDER DETAILS: Purchase ID: xxxxxxxx Order Summary: Haunted Santa Monica Ghost Tours (6x Adults) Subtotal: $210.00 Taxes & Fees: $15.28 Discounts: $0.00 Total: $225.28 Thanks, Jeb --------------------------- This tour was run by Zack and Candace, two really friendly people. Zack is super energenic, threw dad jokes, and would be an awesome person for regular tours (not haunted tours), and Candace helped tell half the stories. Not sure how this averaged 5-stars. I would give it 0-stars if possible. Biggest disappointment and waste of money. Our group of 10 people all felt scammed. Wasn't what we expected at all. The places we went to were just too crowded to set the mood. Most of the "facts" that were described weren't delivered well to draw us into the stories. Good information on the buildings, but all the haunting stories didn't have any emotions behind it to create the atmosphere. That coupled with the noise and crowdedness of the entire tour just took everyone completely out of it. The whole tour was missing the Mystery aspect of a haunted tour. Delivery of the stories using "factual" statements such as "EMF" and "Séances" does not make it scary, mysterious, or convincing. Not even drugs or alcohol would make it close to what you would expect (Not to say there was any of that involved). TLDR; If your not doing this for your 5 year old kids, don't waste your money or time. Additionally, the tour sent me an email asking to rate my review from 1-5 stars. If you pick anything below 5-stars you get sent to a fake reviewing site that doesn't allow you to submit; Clicking 5-stars sends you to this Yelp page. That's just terrible. https://pro.peek.com/reviews/sample/5907ae6893d2da304f00005b/1

He loaded us all in the luxury Mercedes van, stocked with waters/treats, and off we went. The tour is 5 hours, with a lunch stop at the famous Farmers Market. Time flies though! You'll go through the Hills for breathtaking views, visit Hollywood sign, get the tourist Hollywood experience (Chinese Theatre/Dolby Theatre/Walk of Fame), see movie studios, celebrity past/present homes, Rodeo Drive, and much more. The entire tour our guide, Jeff told us facts and stories about the different areas we visited. His knowledge and stories were worth the price of admission. This was the ultimate LA in a day tour. Highly recommend. Private tours are the way to go and this is the one you want.

We had an amazing time and felt completely safe, and a large factor in this was that we an exceptional tour company that thoughtfully planned our trip, made the preparations for us, accompanied us throughout the journey, and did not leave us, but continue to be a special part of our lives. Holy Land VIP tours is unique in that their guides speak Arabic and Hebrew, have many connections (no lines, no hassle), and will bring a Christian perspective to your tour. I didn't know this before my trip, but if you hire a Jewish guide you will not be able to go into the West Bank (Bethlehem, Jericho, etc.), but if you don't hire a Hebrew speaking guide, your trip will not go as smoothly in many areas. We had Daniel as our guide and he was definitely born to bring people on this once-in-a-lifetime trip, and he even states that it is his mission in life. When I called him for the first time, I had no idea what I needed to see/do because I was so overwhelmed, but limited in my knowledge. He gave me many suggestions and worked with me to make a truly customized trip. We visited all the sites in and around Jerusalem, (including the Dome of the Rock), the Sea of Galilee, Bethlehem and Jericho, and the beautiful Petra in Jordan (his VIP service makes your border crossing seamless). We also had unique experiences like a boat ride of Galilee, baptisms in the Jordan, floating in the Dead Sea, tunnels under the Western Wall, scooters around Jerusalem, and a meal with a Christian family. He can take care of your accommodation needs, or allow you to book your own (which we did due to our family size of 6 people--he let me know which airbnbs were good options and which were less desirable). We felt very welcome as everywhere we went people knew him, and being that he is former police, we felt very safe. He is a devout Christian, knows his history and politics, and is an all-around personable and likeable human being. My kids continue to talk about him well after the trip. We also spent time with his son Philip who is also a guide, and Isa--both of whom were also wonderful. So if you are ambivalent at all about visiting the Holyland, you won't have to be at all if you book through Holy Land VIP tours.

A mission for Christ and it was an absolute pleasure to spend two full days touring the Holy Lands with him. He starts as a stranger and you end up friends with this man. From the minute he picked us up he was impressive--he is incredibly knowledgeable, super kind and very easy going. His vast knowledge of the areas, the realities of the current situation for Christians, and of historical facts and sights made for an amazing experience, plus his extensive network of Christian friends in the community made seeing many sights in a short time very doable. And we always felt safe, no matter where we were. We had an aggressive agenda and he never waivered--making sure we had plenty of time to see the sights important to us. He even added a few that he thought we wouldn't want to miss. From two different cruise ship ports he met us early each AM, first driving us from Ashdod to Jerusalem and into Bethlehem, then from Haifa to the Sea of Galilee and Capernaum. (Our ride accommodations were total comfortable too--plus a great, and fearless driver!) We saw the Church of the Annunciation, walked the stations of the cross in Jerusalem, saw where Jesus prayed to his Father in the Garden of Gethsemane, saw Jesus birthplace in Nazareth, visited the Church of Cana (and all 5 couples renewed our wedding vows)...and much, much more. Both days also included delicious, authentic meals that we could have never experienced if it weren't for Daniel. One day we ate in a Christian families home with a beautiful home cooked meal--just like any grandmother--this woman poured her heart out for us on her table. Roasted chicken, stuffed grape leaves, homemade desserts and local wine. The next day we ate at a fabulous restaurant Dubai Restaurant Deluxe and were spoiled with a 5-star meal of kabobs, hummus, tabouli, Fattoush salad and more. This trip and these two days were beyond memorable for many reason, but one main factor can only be attributed to Daniel and his team.

Our guide, Ansley, was respectful, knowledgeable, approachable, and friendly. She really brought the stories to life and made everyone feel comfortable asking questions. The vintage funeral car was such a cool and fitting touch for the Manson Family Murders Tour (and the main reason why I booked the tour). About 80% of the experience was spent in the car, which was cozy and gave us plenty of time to soak in the history while listening to music from the era. Including Manson, The Beach Boys, and The Beatles, to name a few. We also made three stops along the way to get out, take photos, and see key locations up close. As a mortician, the experience carried an extra layer of meaning. I actually helped funeral direct the service for the LaBiancas' granddaughter (who had the same fate as her grandparents). So hearing and seeing this history firsthand felt deeply personal and surreal. If you're into true crime or Los Angeles history, this tour is an absolute must. Graveliners and Ansley made the experience both educational and unforgettable. We loved every minute!
