I loved this resort! My friends and I had so much fun the weekend we spent here. There's so much to do you won't even have to leave to have a good time! The sunsets and sunrises are breath taking.

Navajo Tacos made by chef Ben!!!! We could not leave to go back to Texas without getting one!

This is a must for us!!! Whether you come to stay a few nights or just come on Thursday for the Navajo tacos you are going to be in love!!!! The locals know about this hidden gem. You find a family run place from top to bottom. If you aren't a fan of Northern hospitality then stay away. Not only will you become family you will want to comeback year after year. Make sure chef BEN makes you a famous pizza..... chicken strip basket or the Navajo tacos!!!!

Betty enjoyed the beach at dusk.

He's all over the place - at the Club House welcoming and showing guests around and on the course itself - he's very professional and knowledgeable . Just don't be a brat and be sure to bring your carts back before 7:30 pm. Middle of September with the perfect weather and you're all set for a nice day of hitting golf balls. New to golf or old, you'll find it very easy to play here. They're open from early spring to mid-October (late fall and depending on the weather!). This golf course is in Walker, MN, where people in general boast the Minnesota nice culture. The holes are easy to find , if you ask me . The grounds are well-kept, very lush greens, lovely trees and such a great dose of Nature Rx! They have resident bald eagles who aren't shy to show off mid tee. The club house staff is fairly new and no more Ms. Crabby, whew! Find Kim, Lori or Mike getting you set up and ready for your make-believe Masters tourney. Pricing is, for a Californian like me, a party like it's 1989! The phone here is always ringing so make sure you call in to make a reservation. They also have a very sweet club membership program. Their bathrooms (can't leave this out) are nice, clean and all-gender. There are plenty of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. My company recently held an event here to benefit The Pancreatic Cancer Society and the turnout (even volunteers!) was amazing. The crew's energy at this golf course is unwavering! Easy-peasy and hassle-free fun for a day. So you can stop reading here now, head out to the course and don't forget to bring your best swing!

I've played this course probably 20 times and it never disappoints me (just my game does that)…read more Challenging enough without being impossible. Love the size and undulation of the greens. Course is well cared for too. I've played most of the other courses in the area and this is my second favorite after Headwaters. Looking forward to playing league here when I'm a retired full-time resident!

B E A U T I F U L L A N D S C A P E…read more WOW, this cowboy/rustic/shabbychic event venue is a delight to the eye. The new barn is made from repurposed wood from a train trestle and is unsurpassed in craftsmanship. The bride's room is a little small, might have too many cute pieces of furniture in it to be real functional. All the tables and chairs are relatively new, so they are in great shape. The chairs are different from most venues, and are beautiful. All the tables are an assortment of shapes and sizes, with the bridal party table smack dab in the middle of the immense room. Perfect. there is a permanent built in bar that I have seen in other barn venues too. Good call!! There is a covered area for the caterers to set up a buffet that is nice. The BATHHOUSE, (privy) is small, but cute cute cute. Outside tables offer a pleasant place for guests to mingle and socialize. The parking area is sooooooooooo far away from the barn, that the cutest red and white shuttle wagon pulled by a red truck is in continuous trips. All night. The area for wedding ceremonies is awkward and slightly difficult to get to, as it is slightly hilly. A golf cart type open vehicle is provided for older or non really-that-mobile people. Whew! The area for chair set up is rather uncomfortable as it is on a hill. And the place for the bride, groom , and bridal party is totally uneven and very difficult for bridesmaids to navigate in heels. Standing there for an entire ceremony was difficult to do without feeling like you were going to fall over. Maybe if it was leveled and smooth cobblestones were installed it would make for a more pleasant experience. The remote remote location makes it a little difficult to find. Two dirt roads and a couple miles off the main drag is doable though. Be prepared to drive a long time, and hike a lot. S U P E R B L Y A P P O I N T E D

I was married at Black Lantern last summer (2015) and I have so many good things to say I can't…read morepossibly say them all here. First and foremost, I've heard from an overwhelming number of guests how much they enjoyed the grounds and the beauty of the area, so much that they didn't mind the 4hr drive from the cities. The natural beauty of the area is emphasized here: native species surround you whether you are at the pavilion area, the campgrounds up around the loop, or even the open area of the RV park. There are also pretty little "hidden" places all over. Our photographers were thrilled about all the places to take photos- rock chairs, opennings in the woods, flowers planted here and there, sweet antique-looking benches, etc. The best part of Black Lantern though is the owner, Annie. She is just incredible. She was so thoughtful throughout the process and she was pretty much a wedding planner. She didn't mind talking to me about how weddings are put together and gave me contact info for decently priced vendors in the area. That was especially helpful as I am from Minneapolis and was contacting all the expensive vendors- oops. Annie took time to understand our style and vibe so that she could best help me plan an event that we wanted. She offered so much of her time before we even met to answer questions. She also has the uncanny ability to pop in at the right time- every time I needed her, she was there. She helped problem-solve for those things you don't plan on and offered a helping hand whenever it was needed. She chops all the wood and builds things, including amazing heart-shaped fires. What a badass woman! There was only one thing that was a disappointment at first- but then ended up being a blessing in disguise- we couldn't have our guests camp at the "campsites." Darn MN regulations. There isn't running water close enough to the loop to allow for campfires. Instead, we had all our guests camp in the RV park. It worked out wonderfully. This also allowed us to use one of the campsites as our ceremony site. Best decision we made. It couldn't have been a more perfect location for us. I didn't want to get married indoors, or even standing on cement. The clearing in the woods was large enough for 100 chairs and standing room for the other 60 people. The forest provided a breathtaking backdrop. Even a year later, when wedding-talk comes up, other people still bring up what an amazing venue Black Lantern is.
