    Waiting for the hibachi
    Gerardine R.

Went here for lunch on a random Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm and we were the only ones there for hibachi which was great. We ordered the steak and scallops and it was delicious. They put on a great show and we were happy with the service. We also ordered a few appetizers and it came out pretty fast. Prices are reasonable. Will be back soon.

I cannot get enough of this place! Literally, I came here and never wanted to leave. The sushi was SO fresh!! So TASTY! So delicious!!!! I loved it so much, I couldn't stop thinking about it honestly. I bragged so much about it that I ended up coming back a couple of weeks later. I really think this will be my go to spot. Staff is attentive and friendly. The food comes out quickly. No complaints! Definitely check it out!

Great! Came here because we were craving sushi and this place did not disappoint! It gives me local spot that folks tend to come back time after time. The sushi here was delicious with very friendly and attentive staff! The ambience is decent for what they offer! Will return!

Honestly had higher expectations for this place due to the reviews and the higher sushi prices compared to other places nearby. I do believe they do pack more filling into the sushi rolls which is a plus but doesn't warrant the 17.50$ in a 3 roll lunch combo. Also, I don't see much places that add $1 if you select eel avocado. The spicy salmon wasn't even spicy or even mild and there was a bad piece of avocado. Luckily there were no issues with my husbands meal. The fish and salad was okay but the dressing was more vinegary/sour than I am used to. I guess it's a plus that they included miso soup in the lunch special too. I really expected something better and don't think I'd pay regular price for their dishes... maybe this place is just good for hibachi? Nonetheless, the staff there were really friendly but sadly I didn't think the food was worth my $..

Sunday brunch. We were driving around, looking for lunch and found Sushi Ya. From the outside it looked relatively modern. When we got inside, it was empty at 12:30 PM...not a good sign. Ambience: like other reviewers have noted, they really need a makeover or a really deep cleaning. The interior is dark and the walls are adorned with pictures of customers, however, there seems to be a layer of sticky/smoky residue everywhere. Food: we ordered: Steak and Shrimp hibachi. The shrimp was well seasoned and flavorful. The steak was ok. 4/5 Fried Rice - this was cooked in what seemed like a pound of garlic butter. The chef was demonstrating an egg spinning trick and dropped the egg. I ended up with bits of eggshell in my fried rice. 2/5 Chicken hibachi - similar to the fried rice, cooked in a lot of butter and teriyaki sauce. 3/5. Service - the servers were very attentive, as we were the only table there. The chef might have been a rookie, as his repertoire of knife skills and gimmicks was limited and needed more practice.

My sister recommended this place for my mother in laws birthday. I love hibachi Andrew i haven't had it in a while. I loved how there was enough space for my double stroller and how accommodating they were off the stroller. I didn't get many pics because i was eating and had my baby with me but the food was delicious. My husband and i got hibachi chicken and steak, and my son got kids chicken hibachi. Some hibachi places that i went to, the food was bland, I'm glad that this place seasoned well. I also ordered a regular shrimp tempura roll and that was delicious as well. At the end they took a group photo and we hung it on the wall. The walls are covered with their customers pictures and u think that is just so awesome, everyone was friendly.. from the hostess to the waitress to the chef.. i definitely will be coming back!

Sushi Ya, more like Sushi Nah! The hibachi chicken taste alright along with the vegetables. The soup is the only thing I like in this meal but the salad I don't, they put too much peanut dressing and it was too watery and cold, so does the lettuce. Also, they don't put shredded carrots and grape tomatoes only a two slices of cucumbers. The waiters are very kind and comical to the customers which I left an extra star, but the ambient of the restaurant looks like they didn't renovate since 2005. It has that Hawaiian/Asian theme and I have no idea why they put photos on the wall, it's everywhere from the entrance to the grill room, is that photos of customers dining at this place or celebrities? No celebrity will go to this place and have a hibachi meal with a cold salad and watery peanut dressing. Overall, there are better hibachi restaurants out there in Long Island but don't go to this one unless you could go there for a happy hour.

I was very hungry so on my way home I ordered my first meal of day via Uber Eats. Delivery was actually on time. My order was packed really well, hot and fresh. I ordered the Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box, which consists of salmon teriyaki, steamed shumai, salad, miso soup, brown rice and California roll. The portion size is pretty huge for $13. The meal hit the spot and devour the whole thing. This is a go to spot definitely for lunch.

Decided to give this place a try have seeing all the good reviews. Ordered a toro sashimi and uni rolls. Everything was very fresh. Price was also very decent. Will recommend!

Sushi Ya is one of those places that has been getting me through quarantine. They have such a huge menu, and my favorite part, as I have been committed to keeping as healthy as possible, a wide range of healthy eats too. I usually love getting the sashimi, steamed edamame and miso soup; comfort, at its best. They are super quick getting their orders and have always been very nice. They give a lot of extras in terms of rice and sauces, so even if you're eating for one you'll likely have leftovers. I've never had a bad meal from the place and I look forward to ordering from them each time!

We came here for dinner late and the service was great. We ended up getting a Philly roll, a crunchy scallop roll, a spicy girl roll, a bento box, tea and a lemonade. The food all tasted very good and fresh. We thought it was interesting how they had photos of people on the wall but didn't ask how you got up there. The place looked clean and we'd go back.

    Cozy spot.

Sushi Ya I feel like sushi will forever be a work in progress for me. It takes time to tackle certain ingredients and ideas (eel sauce) to get to a comfortable point with certain cuisine. Luckily, most of my recent sushi endeavors have been positive. Case in point: Sushi Ya. This New Hyde Park spot has been in my hometown (and less than 5 minutes from my house) for what feels like decades, and yet I've never stepped foot inside until recently with my mother (who is a Sushi Ya veteran). Walking in, she downplayed Sushi Ya's ambiance and said it was nothing special, but there was a word she used that I would definitely echo in agreement: cozy. The place felt warm and welcoming (even if some of the booth seats were taped up and had seen better days). From the most important aspect (sushi), their menu has two massive pages filled with different rolls. I've found a safe place in shrimp tempura and spicy tuna so I tend to gravitate towards those two items and so the Nolan Roll was chosen. Shrimp tempura with cream cheese and spicy tuna with a special sauce mixed on top. A superbly solid roll that was delivered quickly to our table. Mi madre stuck with a basic shrimp tempura roll which looked just as appetizing as mine. Now don't just stop at sushi because there's a lot more to Ya then just the word in the restaurant's name. Tons of Asian options pack the other menu pages with plenty of favorites (and some unique originals) to be found. Gyoza has quickly become one of my favorite foods and these crispy crescents were near perfect here. Their udon noodle soup was also quite tasty and hit the spot on a mildly cool evening. So did plenty of hot tea that was refilled multiple times. From a service standpoint I'd say it was respectable. The staff were friendly and rotated, as I often see in Asian establishments, between several different members. As for the bang for your buck, pricing was solid, though I'd love if Sushi Ya was AYCE just to tackle more of their menu without blowing my wallet. A friend has told me they do have this option on Sundays so perhaps it'll be something I'll check out in the future. That and their hibachi portion of the restaurant. Overall, Sushi Ya has a new fan. With its super menu of sushi options and a cozy feel right in my neighborhood, I'll have to come back (or take out from?) here soon. For now, I'll just keep chipping away at new sushi items...here's looking at you, eel.

Normally, I don't start a review on a negative but after we left and counting up all the missteps, I felt off. My wife is more forgiving, she liked the Frito Misto and Bolognese. It's hard to believe this was a BBQ spot a few years ago. The glass garage door is still in place, back in the day it was enjoyable during the spring. There's a reason why it's called Sparrow Cocktails. I ordered the Smoked Old Fashioned. Made with Angel's Envy Bourbon and wood smoked chips, this was a great cocktail before dinner. The Frito Misto had a delicate coating, it wasn't overly battered. The green dipping sauce served on the side was bland. It didn't add to the dish and was thin. The Malfalde Bolognese was a hearty portion, we were able to share this large dish between the two of us.
