Having grown up in Portsmouth, Ohio, over 50 years ago, I can't believe it took me this long to try Hickie's Hamburgers. That all changed on December 11, 2024, when I visited for the first time with my mom. It was a quintessential Portsmouth dining experience--true to tradition, we ran into a few familiar faces, as is always the case in Scioto County. The food was everything I hoped for and more. We ordered cheeseburgers, fries with gravy, and some onion rings, and each bite was absolutely delicious. The burgers are made from scratch and were outstanding! As a first-timer, I had the unique honor of being dubbed a "Hickie's Virgin," which added a fun, personal touch to the visit. The staff and atmosphere made the experience warm and memorable. On top of that, I had talk with Sugg Hickman the owner while I was there. She shared the rich history of Hickie's, along with stories about all the famous folks who have frequented the restaurant over the years. It was fascinating to hear how much this place means to our community and beyond. Hickie's is definitely a place I'll be coming back to whenever I'm in town. absolutely LOVE some good ole Hickie's. The environment of a small town diner is very real when you step food into this 4 star burger inn. As far as the food is concerned, it is extremely hard to go wrong when you step foot into this place. my personal favorite is just some good old fashioned hamburgers, but be sure to order plenty as they are very small and for a big boy you'd need several to fill you up. very similar to white castle in the size of the burger's. the reason I believe it is a 4 star restaurant is because there is not very good parking, nor is there very good seating if you would happen to find a parking spot (however, the parking spot to seating seems to be pretty parallel). This place is a prime eating destination for anyone who is curious and/or just running through Portsmouth looking for a good old fashioned meal. before you even think about leaving, however, you must be sure to try the fries with brown gravy on top as they will steal your heart. My husband and I dine at Hickie's Hamburger Inn, very often and we love it :) The food is fabulous and fresh :) The people that frequent there are all , friendly, the girls are as well ..The owner is fantastic :) You get free refills which is wonderful ...The best white beans, brown beans , chili beans and vegetable soup there is, all homemade ....I am a great cook so I would know that ...You eat there once, you will eat there again, again, and again...A friend and I also go there often when we go shopping and that is where we go to eat ....The best Place , atmosphere is wonderful , food is fabulous and the food is not expensive...Amazing food ...Need I say more? :) read more

Hickie's is a very good burger place in Scioto County. Everyone loves it because its always crowded and its very cheap. Their staff is amazing to they are super nice and make sure your food is how you like it. The burgers and fries are really good. The service is very quick so you get your food in no time. The place is very small but they make it work and it is very 50's there. The parking isn't very good there either because of the building being so small. This is one of my favorite places to go to eat in our small town. I recommend going there and eat at least once because I know you will love it. read more

Best hamburgers in Southern Ohio! The waitresses are the best around in this area, very kind and very hard working. Everything in Hickie's looks like a old-fashioned restaurant, which is what it is. There are so many antiques to look at and just see history of New Boston or just Southern Ohio in general. I keep going there every now and then and it keeps getting better each and every time! BEST GREASY SPOON EVER! "HICKIES", NEW BOSTON, OHIO. Burgers are made fresh, grilled to order. Another of their own creations is French fries with gravy, surprisingly very good. There Navy bean soup with corn bread is excellent. The atmosphere, actually there is no atmosphere, unless you are searching for a hamburger from the fifties, then you will find it here at New Boston, Ohio. I must say, this place is absolutely awesome! It's a great place to go if you want good quality food but don't want to dress all fancy. The place is very casual with exceptional food! The food always comes out at a reasonable time and is always warm and fresh. Not only is the food great, but all the workers here are very kind and will answer all requests. It is also very reasonably priced. I can always go there and eat a meal for under ten dollars and be more than full! This place is definitely a place to go for a good burger. read more

I've only been here once, which just so happened to be the other day. I was hesitant at first, but after trying the food I can definitely say that they will undoubtedly be getting my service many more times in the future. The food was heavenly and the service was great. Everyone was so nice and helpful. I only recommend more seating, or maybe expanding if possible because whenever I went every seat was filled. It was a bit hard to navigate among the people. However, everything else was beyond expectation. read more

The food here is absolutely lovely. The burgers are sliders but they are some of the best burgers youll have in your life. The fries are always crispy even with the delicious gravy they serve on them. My only complaint is that they usually take a while to get to you. Also if you arent a fan of greasy foods. I would recommend to stay away from this place. The style is like a 1970s diner and the greasier foods fit the theme to a T. read more

The best place to eat around Scioto County with out a doubt. The wait can be kinda long due to it being so busy because it's so good. The prices of the place are great for the product I would recommend this to anyone besides a vegan. But the place is so good maybe a vegan would eat it. But it has a family atmosphere which is really nice when you go with your family to sit down, chat, and have a nice meal. read more
