    "Roasted Salmon"

Pretty good wine, great wine slushies, friendly staff and owners and nice aesthetic. However the food is insane. I ordered what the menu said was a "roasted salmon" and what I got was cold salmon in a can (priced at $26). I wanna love the place but that was just bizarre.

Was passing through with my dogs. Other local establishments falsely advertised their hours and outdoor seating availability. This place was super nice to me and welcomed us. I can't attest to the food but if you're in Hickory I would stop here first.

By far, the best place on the square in downtown Hickory. Great atmosphere, service, and selection.

The pub is in the basement of a building which is not always a good thing but in this case, it worked well! The spiral staircase added character to the pub and the character kept on keepin' on as we entered the restaurant. The inside is brick and wood which gives a pleasant dive feel. The staff was friendly and we were seated promptly. It was around 7:30 pm on a Saturday evening so it was pleasantly uncrowded. We ordered Irish potato soup, fried cheese curds, the Reuben on sourdough bread and fish n' chips. They were all amazing!! I had the soup and it was delicious- it was their take on French onion soup with potatoes and carrots. They always have it so if you like soup- GET IT! The cheese curds were legit- the cheese was tasty and the breading just right. My wife ordered the Rueben on sourdough instead of the offered rye. The sandwich was a classic Reuben which my wife liked so much that I had to have a bite. It was great! Plenty of corned beef and hash with a sauce that added the right amount of tang. My son ordered the fish and chips. The fish was outstanding and my son and I both agreed that it was as good as fish that we had recently had in London- awesome! One note about the fries- the fries were scrumptious and came in a shape that seems like they shaved from a potato rather than the usual shape of a fry. The shape was neat but the taste was no joke- delicious. Oh, and if you like sweet tea, they have it.;) Overall, it was a great dinner in a great place with friendly people at a fair price. Now we know where to go the next time we are in Hickory. If you live in the area and haven't tried McGuires, do yourself a favor and go!!! Thanks, McGuire's Pub!!

The wait-person was busy shooting the breeze with bar patrons, and then decided to bus tables instead of attending to the two new tables. We walked out, after telling them why.

The crowd is mostly younger,…read morewhich is fine, but the energy feels weird--like everyone's trying to make something happen, but nothing ever does. The music isn't too loud, so you can hold a conversation, but it still somehow feels lifeless. Not much going on inside besides people standing around looking bored. But the real problem? The police are ALWAYS there. Every night out turns into a waiting game--how long before the blue lights pull up? It kills the whole mood. You can't relax, and it honestly feels more like a sting operation than a night out. Mediocre drinks, uncomfortable atmosphere, and too much drama for a place that's supposed to be "lowkey." Hard pass.

I recommended Dive Bar to all of my friends, and always mentioned how safe, affordable, and fun their business is. Tonight, a friend from college and I were excited to go to the Dive Bar--I hyped up the experience to her astronomically and assured her that it would be the best bar she'd ever been to (bonus points for the arcade games!). Sadly, upon entering, my friend was turned away for having a "fake ID." Her ID is in no way facetious--it is up to date, came straight from the DMV, and boasts the same birth date on her birth certificate. It is also the permanent plastic copy, not the temporary paper one from last year! Instead of trying to scan it or even electing to consult a police officer on the corner right outside the door, she was turned away, leading us to find another bar to give our business to for the night. Her ID is vertical, but this is because she renewed her license prior to its expiration on her 21st birthday--since she wasn't 21 yet and didn't want to risk having an expired license to wait and get a horizontal copy, she was given a vertical (but STILL VALID) driver's license. I am incredibly disappointed with our experience tonight, and will sadly have to rescind my doting on the Dive Bar in all future conversations regarding Hickory nightlife. Ridiculous!
