I had all four wisdom teeth, but only one was causing issues. Dr. Oka took the time to explain everything clearly -- why removing the problematic tooth was necessary and why taking out the others right now could do more harm than good. They called me the day before my surgery when the office is closed, around 8 pm, and my appointment is no where to be changed. 3. We took our 8 year old son to Dr. Oka to remove an extra tooth sitting above his two front teeth. We first had a consultation to go over the procedure and any concerns. Then we scheduled another appointment for the actual procedure. Dr. Oka is calm and very good at making parents and kids feel comfortable with him and the procedure. My son isn't the best with needles and Dr. Oka pulled out all techniques to ease anxiety and pain. Our son woke up and was able to walk to the car on his own. I subtracted one star because there was a miscommunication in appointment time but they were able to accommodate us when we got there. Our teenager woke up with a severe tooth ache. Dr. Oka took us as a brand new patient and treated our son like he was a long time customer. He helped reduce the pain immediately and quickly schedule a surgery. Dr. Oka removed four wisdom teeth from our 17 year old. He met did a consult with the parents and patient first; he clearly communicated what to expect and how to prepare. He answered all our questions. The procedure went well and weeks later, our boy is doing fine. I would use Dr. Oka myself for any oral surgery when needed. He was professional, courteous and a great communicator. I took my very high risk for covid, immunocompromised, elderly mother here for a tooth extraction. The receptionists staff were NOT MASKED (currently covid is high red transmission and in California medical services they are suppose to be masking), they were very rude when making the appointment (it took a month and a half to get a consult appt. and me talking to an outside answering service despite calling right after the missed calls). I should have picked someone else after this red flag but our regular dentist is so great and I trusted their referral. I was shocked and in disbelief to see the staff unmasked that I just let my mom go to the consultation without thinking. She said the doc and his assistants were masked but I called her to leave after the estimation. Dr. Oka said he would do the extraction then and there and my mom did it! She argued that she really needed it done and will not come back after. THEN they insisted to have her come back for a follow up due to her health! Wow, to ask her to come back and risk being infected by your unmasked staff? Do they even test staff for covid? Wow I refused to let her go back there. If you are high risk, I recommend you call medical providers before to see if they are still considering covid precautions like masks, not to mention monkeypox is out circulating now. This ableist culture needs to stop and I can't believe medical providers like this aren't protecting themselves or their patients. read more

**Experience during COVID19 Pandemic** For some background, I put off having my wisdom teeth removed for 4 years. Despite having the pain of an impacted wisdom tooth grown in, I told myself that it wasn't worth the hassle and the recovery required a lot of time off from work that I didn't quite have prior to COVID19. I wrote in via email to Dr. Oka on a whim, to make an appointment in the distant future. To my surprise, I was called back by the kindest receptionist (I believe her name was Lupe) who walked me through the process extensively and got me scheduled only 2 weeks out! I was terrified and in pain from my wisdom teeth as well but she reassured me that I would be okay and that they would call me if they had an opening sooner. She is truly a gem! I came in for my surgery early on a Monday morning. An assistant took my x-ray before Dr. Oka came in and told me that they would be putting me under due to my impacted wisdom teeth for the procedure. I then was able to walk through my insurance and payment plan information with an assistant named Crystal, who made it very easy and explained everything very well! I then had my surgery which felt like literally 10 minutes due to the anesthesia. After the surgery, I did have to call in to make sure my symptoms were nothing that I had to come back for. I was reassured by Lupe that my symptoms were normal and given tips on how to take care of this. My follow up appointment was very quick! 5-10 minutes to check in, no abnormalities! I got a doctor's note from Dr. Oka for work and was on my way! Overall, I had a very seamless and positive experience! I had a great surgery. Dr.Oka was fantastic and explained the whole surgery and outcomes with me during a long consultation-worth it! The day of the surgery he also made sure I understood what he was doing step by step. The last thing I remember before going under anesthesia was having a numbing spray on my arm and then I woke up with mild pain. The pain obviously got worse after the anesthesia wore off but that's it. My surgery included a extracted baby tooth with an expose and bond for my impacted canine. The surgery price was within my means so no complaint there! He is highly knowledgeable and I trust him 100 percent. I'm only sorry I have to see him again because it means I have to have another tooth pulled. He puts me to "sleep" so I don't feel a thing. And he doesn't rush you out the door when you're still half out of it like a periodontist in Hayward did. There's a little area to lie down until you are able to walk on your own. Of course you still have to have someone drive you home but at least this way you can get in and out of the car by yourself. I did pay extra to be sedated of course. Dr. Oka is simply amazing! I need to have my three wisdom teeth removed. He walked me through why it's necessary and potential risks after reviewing x-rays. He helps me visualizing what to expect during the operation. I was instructed to take the anti-biotics and pain-killers before I can feel anything. It turns out to be the best decision since first six hours is very challenging. But I am so blessed that I barely feel the swelling on my jaw areas and I have been recovering fairly fast for my first week. Unreliable. 09/27/2018, I went to Dr. Hidemi Oka for wisdom tooth extraction. He's good but his team did a bad job. They told me give them CASH before surgery operation, and then Insurrance would give money back. But after 02 months... Nothing. I called them and asked checking again. they forgot and answered me that I would have money after 04 weeks. Now is nothing again. Insurrance answered me: " Please have your dental office submit the claim and the x-rays to the below address". I have to say I'm so lucky to have found a good trustful oral surgeon to do my teeth extraction (all 4 wisdom teeth). Because of the intense pain I had during quarantine I was able to get an appointment pretty quick. By the time of my consultation Dr.Oka had showed me my xrays and explained how bad I needed this surgery. Then he followed by explaining what he was going to do on the day of my surgery. Afterwards I had an estimation of how much my insurance was going to cover and what was expected by me and I was so pleased. Following up my surgery I came in with my dd who waited for an hour and half but because of how quick and easy I was put to sleep it felt like 20 mins haha. Next thing thing you know I'm already home following his orders with medications and diet. By the time I had my follow up appointment everything had gone exactly how he said it would. Btw I have to give props to Lupe as well because she was the one who helped me with my insurance, the dates, and phone call reminders. We scheduled an appointment and the assistant at the front desk was friendly. I believe I meet Dr. Orka that they as well to get ourselves familiarized with who would be pulling out my teeth. On the day of my appointment, I followed Dr. Orka's instructions and had not drank any fluids or eaten anything because I would be sitting and passed out for quite a while, as he would be working on me. I am a 77 years old patient with such a deep rooted fear of dentists due to trauma during childhood with experiences in dentists offices, that I preferred to treat tooth pain by whatever other means than going to see a professional. However, on 1975 I had to have root canals (or else), because of an infection and my fears and trauma were reaffirmed, so I never set foot in a dentist office not even for a cleaning again till I was forced, once more, in 2016 and that was when by mere luck I came to Dr. Oka for a consultation and extraction of wisdom tooth and bone grafting. It was a life changing experience! His demeanor, was very relaxing, the explanations extra clear and the applied knowledgeable technics help me not feel, even the sting of the needle, when injecting the anesthesia to do the surgery. I was so happy with that, that I had not noticed if his staff was polite or not. Year 2023 came and I needed to take out another wisdom tooth, and of course, in my mind Dr. Oka was my only choice. By now, he only does surgery by other dentists referrals, and as soon as I got it, I visited him and he was able to reassure me once again and I was able to visit two other regular dentist, for cleaning and fillings, with out climbing up a wall. His staff very efficiently, clear my charges with out any doubtful or confusing charges, which unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the other two dentists. That is gold. Dr. Oka is without a doubt one of the best oral surgeons in the Bay Area. He removed all 4 wisdom teeth from my twin daughters. I took one of them first because she was complaining of pain. It was getting impacted and we moved forward with the removal of all. It was a smooth process from begining to end and she experienced just some minimal pain and discomfort afterwards. She was well within a few days. No infections, no pain, nothing. I took my other twin just recently for the same situation as I fully trusted Dr. Oka and the process. Dr. Oka is a pretty caring and very knowledgeable doctor. I had my consultation in February and a few weeks later I had my wisdom teeth extractions. The nurses were helpful with questions I had and helped me understand the payment plan. On the day of my surgery, I was a nervous reck! Dr. Oka and the nurse comforted me and made it easier for me. Hey, look forward to laughing gas! I was laughing and crying so much. And I totally knocked out without any idea what happened during the surgery. The doctor called me after my surgery when I was home, so that helped me out if I had questions or concerns. I did get a little sick with the anesthesia and did throw up. But luckily it was only once that happened. And I was able to eat soft foods and rest. Only one star off because I did develop some tooth sensitivity which hasn't gotten better. First off let me say that I detest going to the dentist. I have had awful experiences in the past which have made me stay away from any dentist for several years. Needless to say my neglecting my teeth caught up with me. I was referred to Dr. Oka to have a tooth extracted and bone grafting done in preparation for an implant. At my initial consultation appointment Dr. Oka spent about an hour with me thoroughly explaining the entire process. He knew that I was anxious and concerned regarding any possible pain that I might experience during and after the procedure. After Dr. Oka explained everything to me I felt a lot better about the pending procedure but I was still very cautious. On the day of the procedure, one minute I'm on the table laughing (from the gas) and the next minute I'm getting ready to go home. I was alert and couldn't believe that I was not in pain. My dentist referred me to Dr. Oka for an infected wisdom tooth. I had been in severe pain for about a month. I called Dr. Oka's office and stressed to his staff that its difficult to come in multiple times because I just started at my new job. They were able to get me in promptly and they scheduled me for both my consult and extraction at the same time. I came in and did my formal introduction/x-rays. Then Dr. Oka came in and thoroughly explained my situation and what's to be expected. He gave me his opinion along with other options to choose from, I went with his opinion because he's the professional and he had gained my trust. His nurse then prepped me for anesthesia and the extraction. He was very understanding and very gentle and the procedure was very fast before I knew it I was awake the tooth was gone and I was happy. Dr. Oka showed empathy and sympathy. He's confident but not cocky nor arrogant. Dr. Oka has a surgery assistant who's name I can't remember, she was nice and helpful. For billing purposes I dealt with Crystal, Crystal was knowledgeable and helpful in giving me billing options. Her caring words made me feel extra comfortable in my experience. They make a great team. Last but not least, Dr. Oka himself called me a couple of hours later to inquire how I was feeling. That was very thoughtful.
