I have been meaning to eat here several times, finally made it on my last day in Oaxaca. I ordered the tejate, a fermented pinapple drink. It's super tangy, fresh and a little spicy. It's really good. I had the ceviche. It's delicious. Finely chopped up veggies and mushrooms with tangy fresh citrus on a small tostada. So good. The mushroom tacos are amazing. They are prepared in a dark super flavored sauce, it might be a mole sauce on a soft corn tortilla with a little onion,pineapple & guacamole. But anyway they are delicious. So happy to eat delicious vegan authentic Mexican food. read more

What a sight for sore eyes after a long day of traveling that began with a 7 am flight out of Chicago! By the time I got into town, it may have only been 1pm but it felt like 7pm. I was hot, tired and hungry as hell. Hierba Dulce was such a lifesaver and a beautiful welcome to this amazing city. I visited three times while I was in town and the courtyard is simply glorious with a mural of the Virgin of Guadalupe looking over you. Service is patient and kind (our Spanish wasn't great and not every waitress speaks English). You won't believe the prices are for full meals and not tiny plates (Welcome to Oaxaca! New York, you are dead to me. Sort of.) so you may initially over-order like we all did. We ordered guac and nopales and tacos and the traditional mole but by the time the mole arrived (it's 6 bowls of the most incredible mole you've ever had, vegan or not), we had to force ourselves to eat more. (side note: we didn't have to really force ourselves at all). Came today 10 mins before they opened on Wednesday - our waiter was super friendly recommended a few drinks and we ordered our main dishes. Overall healthy, fresh tasting and nice experience. Staff was calm and relaxed even when it began to pour with rain. Everything is organic, local and they don't use oil to prepare their food. We came here after seeing that this place had affordable prices and plant based options. I ordered the Taco Placero stuffed with the potatoes and chili and served with a little salad, and a bit of guacamole and red bean broth for 60 pesos. It was alright, my favorite part of it was the guacamole and I also really enjoyed the thick red bean broth. I only wish there was more of them and also of the salad. My partner ordered the Milpa Soup, which had corn, squash, purple green beans, squash blossoms and carrots. It did not have very much flavor in it, but was good with a squeeze of lime on the side. I seemed to enjoy it more than him, as I enjoy mild earthy flavors. It was nice that the soup had squash blossoms in it. We also ordered (and shared) the corn water which was good and very refreshing although it did not taste very much like corn. It tasted a bit more like lime than corn. The bathroom was nice and the atmosphere felt very clean and intentional. The person who sat across from us really liked her Mole. One thing that concerned us is that they charged our card twice on the way out ... not sure if this is a common issue with their card reader but they seemed to deny charging us twice on their end even after we showed them that it charged twice on our end. Perhaps paying in cash would have been better. Hopefully this gets worked out. If not, I may need to adjust this review accordingly. read more

Excellent food. I had the nopal salad, which was perfect, as the weather was very warm. I also had a refreshing seasonal water: maize w/lemon. The server, was friendly and explained the eight-plus hour process to make the drink. Lastly, I had a light dessert that was called Nicuatole and it was made with maize and a fruit I can't remember... It's gelatinous and pre-Columbian. I'd definitely recommend stopping by. read more

Delicious food, modern and clean space, and excellent service! We were a party of four adults with one boisterous kid and a baby... weren't sure how this small vegan place would take the commotion. They were great and accommodating! All the dishes were extremely tasty, a nice change of pace from the meat and cheese centric dishes we'd been having the rest of the trip. Outstanding soups (lovely use of herbs and chayote) and the green mole with wild mushrooms was one of my favorite dishes the whole trip! We topped it all off with hot chocolate with almond milk - yum! We had a giant meal, but felt great afterwards. Definitely would recommend to others, regardless of whether vegan or not! read more

If I could give zero stars to this restaurant I would. I visited Oaxaca this past January and I had seen this restaurant and didn't get a chance to eat here. I started following their Instagram page and I loved the presentation of all their dishes. I arrived to Oaxaca yesterday night and this morning I stop by to eat and sadly I was very disappointed. I traveled all the way from California to receive the worst service ever from a business in Oaxaca! The restaurant has a beautiful courtyard and the food wasn't bad but what good is that if they have horrible service. It was 3 of us in our party and my mom and aunt got her food but my food never made it to the table. The waitress kept telling me my food would be ready in a few seconds. Another customer who came out after us got his food and she said the food comes out as you order so that means that mine should have come i right before the other customer. On top of that the waitress tried to charge me for a plate I never got. I would not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends and family and that's really sad because it looked like it could have been a great place to come back. Enter at your own risk! read more

I gave this two stars purely because it's great to have somewhere to grab a nice, clean salad. Unfortunately though, that's the only good thing I found about this place. I went twice and found the food on both occasions to be quite bland with the enchilada fillings consisting of small amount of potato only). In addition, the first day the staff were happy and welcoming. The next, the same staff members were rude and uninviting (yes, I left a tip the 1st time). For the cost, there are far better places to try vegan and vegetarian food. If you're after avocado on toast or a salad, then this is your place. Anything else, try somewhere different. read more
