Small little inside market consisting of many local producers, meat shops, seafood mongers, fruit…read moreand veg and of course the amazing cheese. My first visit was on a Saturday and the place was fairly busy. I did come through the Marche on many other occasions and there was always interesting fresh products and lots of food to be observed tasted and purchased. One of the reasons I love visiting a market in any region is it gives you a great feel for the local region. Here in Auvergene the cheese is amazing. No doubt about that. The St Nectaire, Cantal, Auvergne Bleu are so plentiful it's amazing. Also I can believe I didn't take more advantage of enjoying the cheeses. Next I'd say the saucissons and the different fresh mushrooms are quite something to be seen. Ditto for the beef. Auvergne is a huge meat and potatoes region of France. Frolic in all what looks great! I was told by a work colleague that if you seek to take home some St. Nectaire fromage to your homeland that they would cryovaced the cheese to maximize freshness. I had grandeur thoughts of this, however the +30C days near the end of my voyage made me decide that smelly half melted cheese would not be a wise choice.
Overall Marche St. Pierre is the best local market in Clermont. Saturday seems like the busiest day. Enjoy, take photos and buy up the local food and produce.
