It's important to have a clear understanding what your family is signing up for, when you're looking into Montessori education (Seeing complaints about having to attend a pre-application presentation- why is this a problem? This teaching method is very different than what most parents had grown up with. This presentation is not just a 'check-the-box' exercise. It is to be sure you can commit to and subscribe to the methods they employ (as parents are expected to engage in the school and mirror teaching methods in their home environments (the Teachers visit your home to learn about the child's home environment)). Better to find out that's not something you can commit your family to prior to enrolling (vs. finding out after you've started). Children operate in developmental plains and the classrooms and learning materials reflect that. Pre through K (3yrs, same Teacher, same classroom). Grade 1-3, Grade 4-6, Grade 7-8). Learning is crafted around the child's interest, and at the child's pace, to try to instill the desire to explore, learn, and problem solve (rather than being dictated to and introducing learning through memorization). A child is 'on-track' if they're developing towards the next plain of learning (not through an annual calendar progression or standardized testing). There is a time for that but preparing for testing is not the primary focus of this school until they approach middle-school (again, they're focused on ensuring the desire to learn and achieve is fostered). Caring for your community and developing empathy are also core values of the school. Schooling does not have to be a competition (those who are solely signing up for a 'private school' pedigree will likely be disappointed as Montessori is not solely focused on academic achievement). We've found Montessori methods are helping us to mold a young mind into a productive, caring, empathetic, engaged member of their community. To have a desire to explore and learn. That is what we hope to instill in our kid, and reflect in our family and community.

This school in particular with its administration, values chores and task driven activities over academics. We decided to pull our two daughters out of the school and move them to public where services are available and they have improved immensely, but unfortunately, they are still behind all of their peers. Every single staff member we work with in the public school setting tells us the same thing, montessori does not have a high standard in academics as they do not test and score like they don in public schools, which is import to catch where they are behind before it's too late and provide that supplemental support/early intervention. The administrators at MVM knew of the problems our kids were facing because they did do some assessments and said they will catch up but that's what they tell every parent, and coming forward with our story we are finding more and more parents just like us with the same exact story line! We believe this school to be unethical and driving a myth behind the montessori platform. If we could go back and change we would never have look in the direction of MVM.

When I first called to inquire about this Daycare and Preschool I was not aware it is a Montessori school, and I have really liked the teaching methods I have witnessed. It really seems to fit the way my boys think. The teachers are great, and the director has been teaching for years and years (I think she taught elementary school too). In any case, if you are looking for a daycare or preschool for your children, this is one to look into! Oh, and once I heard it was a Montessori I thought it would be priced out of my reach (as Montessoris in the Bay Area are), but the prices are competetive with the other schools in the area (and cheaper than the biggest place in town)! It will always remain one of the best things we did for our son (who's now 8 yo and in grade 2), we see the difference in him in so many tremendous ways and it started with this school. Our 2 year old daughter now goes there, there is no better school for them. Leslie who runs the school has been doing this for 40 years, the team of teachers are all so special and have been with her for such a long time. The energy of the school is priceless, it's calm, structured, dynamic and respectful, and I love that it lays this foundation for the kiddos. The way they teach and learn there really fostered incredible independence in both my kids, and invaluable confidence and a real true love for learning. I couldn't possibly have found a better foundation for my children, and I owe it to Leslie and her crew. I remember the first day I went and "observed" my son at school I was in tears, blown away at what he was able to do at such a young age, and so happy to see him in an environment that allows him to thrive in his unique individualized way, I love that it builds this competence in them while at the same time maintaining a structured respectful environment to also ensure kids learn respect and appropriate behaviors. Montessori Manor has been wonderful for our son in his first year of half-day preschool. He…read moreabsolutely loves all of his teachers and talks about them constantly. The Montessori program with its hands-on approach has been so good for him. His fine motor coordination skills have improved so much, and he's singing all the time now. The calm, prepared environment immediately put him at ease, and we've watched his confidence, focus, and independence grow every day. We especially appreciate Miss Leslie's leadership. As the director, she's created such an amazing program--her experience and passion shine through in how she trains the teachers and connects with every child. We're so happy he'll be returning next year for full-day. We're truly grateful for such a nurturing start to his education--highly recommend!

Moved to area end of the school year / start of summer and to be honest was worried about kiddo…read more(4yrs old) settling in and being comfortable at a new school. "Application" process was easy and I did a virtual tour via FaceTime with Millie (one of the owners). She was super calm and answered every single question I had & showed me every nook and cranny or the school and where kiddo was going to be. PK2 here we come! 1st day I don't think it ever gets easier sending your kiddo to a new school. Kiddo was a touch apprehensive of a new environment but Teacher Nikki was so incredibly warm and welcoming to kiddo (and hubs and I)! Immediately I knew he was going to be just fine. We met Teacher Monique the next day or so - they coteach PK2 - and she's a gem. Both teachers are warm & caring (like aunties) and their love for teaching shines through! The classroom Together Monique & Nikki have created a thriving classroom full of areas to explore with defined spaces & boundaries. There a reading circle, pet fish, reading pod, and then nap mats for the kiddos to use after lunch before afternoon activities. If the kids don't nap they do have the option to read/look at books quietly. The PK2 classroom has two restrooms with kiddo sized toilets and sinks. Each season brings new decorations to the classroom (and school). There are days when kiddo is having a rough morning and both Teacher Nikki and Teacher Monique are angels getting him into class quickly, settled and then sharing with us that he's ok which I so appreciate because there's nothing worse than leaving your kiddo in tears! The school overall Goddard does a host of extra activities- summer bbq, Father's Day celebration, Trunk-or-Treat, holiday concert to name a few. Each brings the Goodard teachers & families together in a special way, along all to get to know each other a little better, enabling us partner for our kid's. Goddard is a pretty special place. One that is developing our kid in an amazing way and preparing him for kindergarten!

It's really scary looking for somewhere to take your child to and even from my first visit I could tell it was a place I could trust and my son would not need to be fighting for attention from others.
