We needed a survey prior to starting some engineering work. Dean gave us everything we needed, communicated well, and showed up when he said he would. Our engineer has confirmed that Dean's work was exactly what he needed. I can't believe the two bad reviews he got here on Yelp, because my experience was the polar opposite of what they reported. Dean Schrader of High Desert Surveying is an unprofessional, egotistical dolt, who couldn't measure his way out of his own house. He lies, he cheats, does shoddy work that doesn't hold up under legal examination, and then over-charges. Then bitches about why you haven't paid him since receiving the invoice yesterday... This 'good old boy' will over charge you and then he will wonder why you didn't continue to use him on the remainder of the work. Please do yourself a favor and AVOID this company - the time and money you will save will be worth it in the long run. This from an email he sent me word for word: "Please remit payment immediately for the Topo files that were sent to you. Since you have had time to forward the files to another surveyor to work on I would assume that means you have had time to write a check to High Desert Surveying" No, Dean Schrader, I will not use you, me and my builder will use someone who is professional, qualified, and not such a cheat. read more

I am the Owner of this business. I see that I have ruffled the feathers of two folks. I will address both of these. I did survey work for Elizabeth H. when she bought her property. She then wanted some old topographical work that I had done for the previous developer. Nothing to do with what I was contracted to provide to Elizabeth. She was so difficult that I sold her the old work which was my proprietary info for only $100. I was unresponsive to her after that as she was belligerent, loud and abusive. I wanted nothing to do with her or her project. Years later her neighbor wanted to build a guest house. Nice guy. I did some more topo work for him and he was permitted to build. As he was in construction she complained (see a pattern here folks?) to the City and had his project halted. She hired "her surveyor" to refute my findings. I used to work for this guy almost 30 years ago. He was incorrect and I was not. After City meetings, Attorneys etc my client has a beautiful guest house except when Elizbeth drives by and yells profanities at him. Also the neighbors on the other side of her sold and moved... yes, because of Elizabeth. They tried an eight foot fence but it wasn't enough. Also you can look at her personally scathing reviews of "her surveyor" and her previous home Contractor. who is also a great guy and an excellent builder. it's more than a pattern and really a mental health issue. Really quite sad. Knit M. had a fence dispute with her neighbor. I simply staked a lot line in the correct location. Their existing fence was a piece of rolled up rattan screen that encroached on their neighbor. It was held up by two sticks and a stone.... literally. I had to move the materials to access the property line. When I was complete I rolled it back and put the sticks and the rock back where they were as is my custom. I likely mentioned my length of experience which is actually 40 years to her husband when he called to discuss the line that I staked. The line was never disputed but they weren't happy as they lost land that was never theirs to begin with.. so I get slammed for doing a good job. So be it I guess. Folks... be nice to the people that survey your land. The large majority of us live in the communities where we work. We are honest and care about making sure that neighbors have land and lot line issues resolved fairly. One thing I might add is I see I did get one very nice review... but for some reason that doesn't show up? That's messed up and part of why I see that other friends I have with businesses dislike Yelp. Whoever gave me a favorable review I thank you very much! read more
