A great village post office right at the centre of Sutton Bonington…read more Like many village post offices the Royal Mail has restricted what Sutton Bonington Post Office can do (So no passports etc) However there is still a lot here and its so much more convenient than having to take a 20 min bus journey to Loughborough. The postmaster is polite, friendly and helpful. The post office is clean, well presented and acts as a hub of information for village life. The post office also sells exclusive hand-made Bonington Bears which considering they are hand made in the UK are very good value for money. For £25 I bought a lovely 15cm tall bear (sitting) called Cherry As well as there bears there is a range of hand made jewllery, confectionary, gifts and other essentials. There are not sufficient words to describe how wonderful Saint Anne's house is. We opted to spend…read moreour wedding anniversary with them, and I'm afraid no other lodging will ever compare. I am writing this on my phone because I am so excited to share with the world this wonderful place. Let's start with the location. peacefully located outside of Nottingham but not so far away as to make it difficult to get there, the village and St. Anne's grounds are something out of a fairy tale. Meticulously and skillfully kept, the garden is a peaceful and beautiful place almost not of this world. The home is lovely, with all of the amenities one could hope for and then some. My favorite place in the house is probably the snug, where we got to sit and sip drinks in front of a real fire on very comfy furnishings. My dear husband even fell asleep on accident there. Our room was Hollyhock, an incredibly spacious and well appointed space with a lovely view of the church across the way. We even got to hear the bells one morning (dont worry they wont wake you, they were rung in the late morning). However, the best part of Saint Anne's is Janeen, Chris, and Hamish the Westie dog. This little dream of a family went above and beyond to make our trip memorable and comfortable. Easy to say the succeeded. I don't have the words to express how grateful we are for them driving us around and providing the largest breakfast I've ever seen in my life and a delicious candle light dinner for our anniversary, in addition to giving us advice on how best to spend our time (their suggestions were just right for our interests). They are lovely folk to get to know and we are privileged to have been able to spend what now feels like a woefully insufficient amount of time with them. Not to mention their accommodation pricing is a bargain! So, in summation, bring lots of time to spend, an extra stomach to fit all the food, and your best doggie pets with you and come stay at St. Anne's. you won't regret it at all. My only regret was only getting two nights there.
Hamish, my new best friend.

Callow Hall used to be a private residence owned by my grand parents, and I lived there as a child…read more It is now a hotel, and Wildhive has done a spectacular job on the latest remodel. Our extended family met for a reunion and spent the week crying with joy at how beautiful our old home looks. The new addition of the glass atrium is a modern version of what the original architect had intended when it was built in 1849, but was never realized. The glass room used as a restaurant is brilliant. It has a classy, cozy feel yet allows diners to enjoy an unobstructed view of the rolling hills and fields dotted with grazing sheep, in a climate controlled environment. Well done Wildhive! The hives dotted in the wood behind is an excellent use of the forest and is cleverly done. We toured one cabin and were amazed at how trendy, modern, and comfortable they are. We stayed in my old room which had been updated to top quality standards. I have never slept in such a comfortable bed in my life. Somehow, Callow has been transformed into a hotel but has kept the feel of a home, which is the highest compliment I can pay. We ate a number of meals during our four-night stay and each one was cooked to perfection. The menu had a variety of yummy choices and we toured the diverse offerings. Five star all the way! A toast to the chefs for their talents. But it was the staff that deserve the greatest compliments. They made our family feel like we had come home and they are a credit to the Wildhive team. Everyone was amazing from the initial reservationist, Jane, to the general manager Jeremy, the bartenders, the waitstaff, the housekeepers, and of course, Dup, the right-hand man/valet/everything else, who became a friend. Callow Hall was the highlight of our trip to Europe. We cannot recommend enough, a stay at this magnificent place. Thank you Wildhive.

The restaurant deco is a mix of funky and traditional country design that gives off a romantic and at ease feel about it. On walking in I was given a warm welcome and instantly offered drinks and despite there being a traditional bar, I never had to step a foot near it as the waiting service was second to none. The Lounge/bar offers the ideal environment for pre-dinner drinks and houses a relaxing log fire where we were served drinks and ordered our food before being taken to our table which is a nice touch. The menu is short yet varied and boasts 100% all local produce and locally reared meats. Freshly baked bread with dipping oils were offered complimentary and on the table when we sat down. The food was presented in an artistic fine-dine style and the portion sizes are good and filling. The price is defiantly appropriate to the service and excellent food and I will definitely be going back! I would also recommend pre-booking.
Fantastic place for so many reasons…read more We had our wedding meal here - took 90 people and had the whole place to ourselves. The staff were so excellent in helping us prepare for our time there, helping us come up with a menu specific for the occasion and putting in so much work to get the place looking beautiful! The food was great and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. The restaurant area has a more sleek feel to it whereas around the bar there are open log fires and on one side, the bar is uniquely stocked/held up with an array of books - wonderfully unique! We have eaten there on other occasions and the service always feels more personalised than a more "corporate" place - must be a very friendly staff team all round! They are also involved in local initiative such as making record-breaking size pork pies... Definitely eye-catching! Friends of ours had heard that this place, 4-5 years back didn't have a good reputation... From our experiences the change in ownership/management has definitely pulled off a masterstroke!

The hotel has very nice grounds, and is located in a quiet residential estate near a major motorway (M1). I was also impressed with their restaurant, Blossoms. The extensive menu options, quality of the food and most importantly, they are open all day until 9pm, with room service as well. All too often, I will check into a hotel after flying all night from the US, coupled with a train journey, only to discover my hotel's on-site restaurant is only open for breakfast, and dinner starting at 5pm. The last thing a traveler with my schedule wants is to be required to forage for a decent, relaxing place for a meal after checking in. Definitely not an issue at the DoubleTree. I travel to Nottingham on business at least four times per year. I used to stay in the city center, but the environment is two hectic and the hotels are not nearly as nice as the DoubleTree. Nick and Michael at the front desk are outstanding and ready to assist in every way. Rely on them and every member of staff to make your stay in Nottingham

The triple room we had in the eaves of this beautiful building was bright and fresh and all three single beds were of very good quality, linen is better than good and the colour scheme brings this room bang up to date. Plenty of storage space with a good wardrobe, chest of drawers, desk / dressing unit and bedside cabinets. Plenty power points, flat screen TV, iron and board, hairdryer, tea and coffee in abundance, far more than you would get in a chain type hotel. I could not believe that I paid just £75 for one night here for 3 adults. We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that. The staff, three we spoke with, were all very friendly and aimed to please and were very natural with us. I highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again when visiting my son at college in Nottingham.

The food is of the standard hotel variety but it does the job. The meal selection is decent and has fish through to steak for those who enjoy their meat. They do have a gym on site which has the latest machines for all those gym junkies who might stay there. The room service was quick and pleasant but it does add £3.50 to your bill. There are lots of seats in the lobby area as I saw many people conducting business meetings over a coffee. The bar is open late however after 11pm all drinks have to be charged to your room no cash is taken after this point! The staff were all helpful and there was always someone around if you needed assistance. My only real bug bear is that the free wifi wasn't the strongest or the most reliable. If it was better I would have given them 4 stars ;-) but hey at least it was free and not an additional cost as in some hotels I have stayed in!

I had traditional Christmas dinner with soup, turkey and vegetables then Christmas pudding. The soup tasted like it came from a can, the vegetables were over cooked and rubbery, the meat was dry, but to be fair, the pudding was ok. Service was slow with a number of staff being a bit clumsy as plates were dropped more than once and a few messes made. The DJ (which consisted of some guy and his 12 year old son)was an improvement however, playing a good mix and not too much cheese. Can't say what their normal restaurant is like, nor what the hotel rooms are like, however, the meal here was enough to put me off ever coming back again.

I had room service and the food was good- tasty and it arrived hot. I was also upgraded to a really lovely suite! Can't ask for more than that. The service was so bad it was hysterical. Example 1. The Bistro bar. We took two cocktails. They were on special. Caiperoskas. Not bad. Funny little glasses. "Two more please." "We've run out of those glasses. How about a brandy glass?" "Sure, one of the funny little glasses was cracked." Glug, glug. It was 10:55pm and we came back for more drinks and for the pecan pie. "Two more please." "We've run out of limes." "Ok. How about a long island iced tea?" "Sorry, no gin." "OK. A vodka cranberry?" "Er. Let me check. Nope. No cranberry juice." "Hmm. Ok. From this cocktail menu, how many can you make?" "Well I've only ever made 3 cocktails in my life before. Let me take a look at the ingredients." After much ado, we ended up with two vodka and grapefruits or something equally disgusting. "Oh, and two slices of pecan pie please!" "Well it's just gone 11pm and we can't serve food." "Maybe if we asked nicely?" "Oh no, the chef's gone home." "We've been trying to get a drink for the last 8 minutes..." It went on like this until we gave in. The next night we ordered pecan pie from room service. In plenty of time for the chef leaving deadline stated on the room service menu. 20 minutes later, they called back and told us the chef had gone home. No pecan pie. Do not pass go. Do not expect too much from the food at the Belfry. Nice view of the B6002 from the hotel balcony though.
