Rabid fan, me? Probably. And you can take the bus there. Wall after all of plaques remember all the people whos ashes have been scattered here. No wave after wave of depressing gravestones, it's a quiet, contemplative place to walk around and contemplate . . . hopefully not dying before you get (really) old.

To view Freud's ashes, you need to ask the maintenance man to let you into that particular crematorium. He let us in and regaled us with his knowledge of Freud (and several of Freud's associates who are also there), his poems about Freud and grief, his paintings, his stories about other visitors, his charm, etc. He was the one who scooped up Freud's ashes after someone tried to steal it and instead dropped the urn on the floor, breaking it and sending Freud's ashes everywhere.

I remember the sadness at the time and also the jokes about his last hit being a tree. People always make fun of tragedy. This is the place, and you can even find the specific tree, where glam rock god Marc Bolan died on 16 September 1977. The T Rex singer hit a tree here in his girlfriend's Mini, and there's a shrine there too. Marc was killed instantly, Gloria (who was driving) was severely injured but survived, and once she had recovered, returned to America. The car was not being driven at excessive speed. The driver was not drunk, or on drugs. The policeman at the time had reason to understand that a wheel had been removed to have a puncture repaired a few days before the crash. There is a possibilty that the wheel had not been retightened enough, came loose, and affected the steering. Safety crash barriers were installed after the accident. There had been crashes at this spot before. Mourners at his funeral at Golders Green Crematorium included Rod Stewart, Elton John and David Bowie. Flowers and wreaths were sent from Keith Moon, Gary Glitter and Cliff Richard. His ashes are spread under a rose bush in the Keats Rose Bed, at Golders Green. On the 20 anniversary of Marc's Death, their son Rolan, who has no memories of his father, unveiled a monument at the site of the crash, and announced plans to launch his own rock and roll career. People stand around playing guitars etc..very peaceful. Hard to believe it is over 30 years.

You get off the train and pretty much walk straight and you run into the street. I 'accidently' walked up to the front door of Abbey Road Studios and got shooed away by security, which was totally fine as I apparently didn't see the big 'Do not enter' sign facing the street. The area is so iconic and a must-see for any Beatles or even a general music lover.

So...does this society have anyone you've ever heard of? Hooke, Newton, Pepys, Wren, Darwin, Huxley, Faraday, Babbage... Basically all the minds that shaped the path our country and world have taken... the minds behind the engineers of the industrial revolution. And right now The Royal Society is funding research, meetings and outreach to shape the 21st and 22nd centuries too. You can't join without first being nominated as like one of the best scientists ever or something. But you CAN visit the society for wonderful public talks, presentations from young scientists from around the country and for historical exhibitions in the disgustingly gorgeous libary. The Kohn Centre in the Society recently hosted a talk with Douglas Melton, the Head of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. The set up matched perfectly with the event, from the reception hall exhibition to the paintings on the Centre Walls. This led me to explore the venue hires... Surprisingly such a luxurious place, with 1500 fellows including 70+ Nobel Laureates, it has a modest cost for public venue hire, esp. those with charity status, compared with those of the Royal Institution of Great Britain. Although a membership only working place, the Society opens to public with limited guided tours and a serious of interesting public lectures. These are the last days of the Exhibition: "The Royal Society: 350 Years of Science" featuring a number of treasures from the Royal Society's extensive collections of archives, rare books, artefacts, and portraits. I particularly liked the women scientists section. It is a fortune that the society offers library facilities (70,000+titles) free to public (registration required) and the reading rooms have wireless internet. What I like about the paper is that it doesn't pull its punches yet at the same time caters for a wider variety of tastes. It's one of the few community papers that takes a firm stance on things that matter to people living in central London. The paper has interviews with local celebrities, analysis of local political issues. It's not afraid to have a go at big business. It doesn't moan about them. It attacks them! The letters' page is full of opinions about anything and everything in Fitzrovia. If you live, work in or visit Fitzrovia, it's essential reading.

I like cemeteries and have visited most of the well known London ones. Chiswick Old Cemetery is not…read moreso well know as Highgate or Kensal Green but, in my opinion, is still very interesting. It was opened in 1888 and is situated next to St. Nicholas' churchyard. It is difficult to distinguish between the cemetery and churchyard which means there are some very old graves alongside victorian ones. Some of the famous people buried here include Barbara Villiers, the mistress of King Charles II and the painters William Hogarth and James Whistler. One of the graves is that of a victim of the Titanic sinking. Arthur Burden was an Assistant Purser on the ill fated ship. His grave is under a white cross with a simple circle.

The BT Tower sits in the background, somehow making it all the more comedic yet poignant. It's particularly good at dusk. Banksy is said to have carried out the work during the night, somehow getting past security gates, putting up scaffolding, and being watched by CCTV cameras throughout the entire process. Westminster Council announced in October 2008 that they would cover it up, treating it just like any other graffiti regardless of the reputation of its artist, but, well, it's still there now. So . . . yeah. Have you heard about how Google Maps Street View has made it to London? Time to go read Nineteen Eighty-Four.

This Banksy - near my home in Fitzrovia - was so clever,…read morebecause it worked on so many levels , which of course is why it was painted over. Firstly the site : the GPO sorting Office,so a major communications hub for London; Secondly, it was painted right under the watchful eye of some CCTV cameras; Thirdly, the little red hoodie doing the graffitti is a reference to the movie DONT LOOK NOW, so therein the message...... But now we have a new one - see Banksy Rat,Fitzrovia - which Westminster Council are threatening to paint over ..... Banksy's message is clear.
