Owner Dustin Mabe was easy to reach, and he and his crew took fewer than two hours to down and remove the tree and clean up. Their pricing, efficiency, and quality of work were impressive, and I will probably turn to them again if any of our other trees seem in danger of toppling. I say "probably" rather than "definitely" because of Dustin's sense of timing. When I first called him for a quote, we agreed upon a certain time for him to do a quick appraisal, but he showed up at least a half-hour earlier than expected. Then, when I called the next week to schedule the removal, he said he would check his schedule and get back to me the next day with his availability. Instead, he called me early the next morning to say that he'd had a cancellation and wanted to do the removal an hour or two later. This ended up working out OK in the long run, but it would not have under normal (non-quarantine) circumstances, and it's something for those without a lot of scheduling flexibility to beware of. You'll also want to confirm whatever quote that was given to you as it will not be e-mailed to you (though proof of insurance will). In short, Mabes does great work at an unbeatable price albeit with a few eyebrow-raising practices.

I thought I needed 13,000 square feet of sod to do a section of my yard…read more Contacted 4 different landscapers that all measured the areas quoted accordingly. Richard at Southern Sod grass was the only person that informed me that I had 10,500 square feet, not the 13k that I thought. He also told me that they would add 10 cubic yards of mulch to my lawn to make the top section of my lawn (clay) hold moisture better and help the roots to get established. No other installer mentioned this. After the crews did all the installation, Richard supplied the timers, hoses and sprinkler heads to insure my lawn received the correct amount of water. He set all that up for me. He came back a few days later and adjusted the timers and location of the sprinklers to do a better job of watering the entire portion of my lawn. He followed up at the 2 week mark to insure that everything looked good. My summary: Richard is the only person to quote my lawn that was honest about the size of my lawn. Being a sod grower, who would know more about installing and caring for sod grass than him? He told me that if there were any pieces of sod that did not perform well, he would replace them. I am already planning my late 2026 or early 2027 sod installation and Southern Sod grass will be the only call I will make. Job well done!

This company did tree removal work for my neighbor and left a mess. Chips from their wood chipper were all over on our side of the fence in our vinyl-lined pool and on our pool deck. This is costing me around $350 for cleanup and chemicals for the pool. When I asked the employee about it, the young woman told me that it's not their fault, they can't help where their chipper blows, that I should have a pool cover, and that I'd have to take things up with the homeowners, who are an elderly couple. Later, another employee told me he knew someone that could vacuum my pool for $80, which in no way takes into account the actual work and chemicals required to return it to balance. Completely unethical.
