I stopped by Highland Nails to have a gel manicure removed that I had gotten at another shop. I came in as a walk-in and was helped right away, which I appreciated. The salon was clean and the service was quick. I opted for a shine buff afterward, but unfortunately it only lasted about three days before the top layer started cracking. My guess is that some of the gel from the previous manicure may not have been fully removed. Which will result in my needing to go to another nail salon to have it corrected. The shop is located in a local strip mall, so parking is easy and there are several food options nearby. It is a convenient stop if you're already in the area. read more

I got a pedicure with gel nail polish, they did an amazing job at cutting my nails, making my skin softer and the nail color. They also provide amazing massages. The service was really kind and nice. I got a pedicure here and the boss has an attitude and assumes you are not going to pay when I had already paid PRIOR to the service when usually people pay AFTER the service in a mail salon. My pedicure looks like it was done by a BEGINNER nail tech at best! I've met beginner nail techs that can do better. They scammed me out of $70 for a godawful pedicure. I would not recommend this place. There are better and more professional nail salons out there. read more

I'm sad to write this because I've been coming here since I was 16 years old and I am now 26. They've recently remodeled and my favorite waxer Julie is no longer working there. I went there earlier this week to get my eyebrows waxed. When I came in service was quick however a woman who I've seen for years do nails was instructed to do my eyebrows. I was a little hesitant because I had no idea she waxed... My wax too about 15 minutes and during the process it just didn't sit well with me. It felt like the wax was too hot and was applied unevenly. When I went to pay the lady noticed the it looked puffy and went to grab some cooling cream. When she applied it, it instantly burned and I left in a bit of pain. Not only that but I left with bumps under near my eyelids and a good sized mark that is scabbing. I know it wasn't the ladies fault who was doing my eyebrows since no one would intentionally do this but I will not be returning. read more

I first came to this place because my mom and grandma would get their gel manicures here. I came to get a full set and I liked how she did a good job. But a few days later I had a brown nail. I thought no biggie and when I went back I told her to make them thicker to avoid the same problem. At first she tried to argue back that it's not the thickness. So I let her fix my nails full fill and again LITERALLY a day after I had 2 broken nails due to how thin she applies the acrylic. I tried to give them I chance more than 3 times and I can't spend $50+ on nails that I have to keep getting fixed. I will not be recommending this place to anyone. One of my many goals this year is to try different nail salons. So, first time here at Highland Nails first thing on Sunday morning. I took a picture of their hours of operation- since their listed hours on Yelp are incorrect. Situated at the shopping center on Highland Ave & E. 30th Street in National City- literally right off the 54 freeway. This business is smack dab next to CHUZE Fitness (to give you a general idea). Sundays- doors open at 10am & Tiffany was running a few minutes late. She arrived about 5 minutes later... very apologetic, mind you. Tiffany was the nail artist who worked on my nails after all. And since I'm an avid connoisseur of my own nails having acrylic laid on top w/ gel polish- that's what I went for. $25- sounds about right. The thing I've noticed when you arrive at ANY nail salon & mention that it's your natural nails- you'll get some stares & a willing nail artist will exam your nails. I think it's because when your old gel polish has been removed & now the old acrylic needs to be sanded down- the nail artist will inspect each finger & see where that old acrylic has "lifted". And, in my experience- it doesn't matter if the nail tech uses the sand paper, plastic/ silicone, or metal Dremmel bit- if the sanding of the old acrylic is used too fast in one spot- this can actually get hot & I can feel that unwelcome burn sensation one my finger nail bed. So- with this being said- people like me who use theirs own natural nails instead of a fake set- know that feeling all too well. You'll see the many tricks of the trade the nail technicians use to ease the situation. One thing Tiffany did to help us both out (there were 2 fingers that had bad acrylic lifting)- she let these fingers soak in acetone for a few minutes. And what a difference that made! Since I'm on my mission to visit different nail salons- I like to engage in conversation. I just feel like it eases the comfort level for a nail tech... and it does make the visit to any nail salon run smoother. There are 2 tvs (one was on), 4 spa massage pedicure chairs, & 4 fingernail stations. It's a bit quaint in here- and tons of traffic since they're located in this shopping center. I didn't realize it til I drove away- but, I do have some fingers that the gel polish isn't spread out evenly on my tips. You can see how light these tips are... a tad bit translucent. I just got my nails done Tuesday late afternoon 11/17/2020. I got a gel French tip manicure just one day ago. I called the nail salon ahead of time on Tuesday to check the price. They said $28 dollars for gel French tip manicure, but when I was done the lady says $34 dollars. I did not understand when I called ahead of time to make sure it was $28 dollars. But I paid it and they said my gel French tip would last three weeks but just one day later the gel French tip is already coming off. I called and said can you do anything for me other then fixing it because I live 45 minutes from the shop and I am very pregnant. And the lady said no we can't do anything she not the owner. I went in today for a pedicure and everything went well in the beginning but when i changed my mind about my nail color (this was far before she even started on the coloring of my nails) the lady painting my nails started complaining to another worker, whom proceeded to get in my face, as i sat there in the chair, and scream at me asking what i wanted and I said nevermind just stick to the white gel. I did not want to deal with her screaming in my face so I had to accept something that i didn't even want. And then all of them laughed at me which led to even a customer to make a rude comment about me. I'm never coming back here, they are so rude. When she finished with my pedicure I politely asked to use the restroom and the whole time I was in there the lady who screamed in my face stood by the bathroom door and even shook the handle, all while the other workers laughed. Well I think as my first time going here for my nails are the best. I was actually scared because I usually get my nails done from my cousin and you know this idea came up to me like "you know what I should try getting my nails done from other salons and I did" .Not only the customer service is good but also the lady who suggested a color for me but I told her I just wanted the clear french tip with black. She's nice I even told her I think I'm gonna kept coming back here now and she said thank you. Get what you pay for! My gel mani took 1:15 and I left with a pretty bad nail job. My lady was older and couldn't see very well. I tried to tell Her I wanted thin white tips and they are too chunky. She told me it was better (?) My white tips are uneven and jagged and the clear coat is only on the center of the nail, not to the sides of the nail bed. I've come here about twice before, I forgot why I didnt come here more often, but today I remembered. Their window advertises a special for a pedicure $10.99 and $6 eyebrow wax. I walked in and got my wax first. The review before mine was right! Golly the waxing was the nice part! But the tweezing and tweezing was grueling! I was praying in my head she'd finish soon! It was definitely the most painful eyebrow session ever for me! After that, I told them I wanted the regular pedicure so they sit me down in a regular chair and put one of those cheap plug-in foot spa's. Whatever- I guess thats why its only $10.99. While she's cutting the cuticles on my big toe, she starts digging the clipper in the little corner at the top part of the nail. I told her it was hurting and she said "wait- just a little more" and then SURPRISE SURPRISE she yanked a little piece of skin out and I started bleeding everywhere. So she douses me with alcohol and puts some weird gel on it. The massage was the reason why I haven't been happy to come back, even when I've been there and paid for a deluxe pedicure, the massage lasts seconds! LAME! Oh- and they charge $1 to use plastic.
