Please appreciate this review as a very positive review for a business that deserves your business. I am an amateur home cook that cooks a lot because my wife has a lot of food allergies. I have been looking for knife sharpening better than William Sonoma since we moved back to Portland and have had a hard time finding a spot. I saw there was another location in Washington Square to sharpen knives and I decided I'd check it out. I read a lot of bad reviews but thought I'd give it a go. Stopped by on a Sunday and said "do you sharpen kitchen knives / repair?" (I have a shun 8 inch that had a large chunk out of it that multiple places refused to repair). The response I got was "Yes but let us follow up in regards to the repair / write your contact on this post it and we will follow up." Two weeks went by and I didn't have a message or note / call regarding an update. I decided to go stop in and lo and behold they were done including the major knife repair. This was a thin Japanese knife completely shaved down to perfection. The other knives - precise. Cost was insanely reasonable but the care was over the top. In my experience working with small businesses, the passion is in the craft. Yes everyone likes Amazon up to the date updates but I appreciate the quality and Highlander provides quality / craft. read more

Terrible experience with their online store and nonexistent customer service. I placed an order back in October 2025, and after a month of it not shipping, I cancelled it. They issued a "refund receipt," but never actually sent the funds back to my bank. I have spent months trying to reach them via phone, email, and social media DMs, and they completely ignore everything. I purchased a knife and the sheath came with a broken piece to hook to my belt. I requested to have it swapped out for a non broken one I was then told that they couldn't help me even though it came broken. I was then threatened and told they would call security over me elaborating to other customers that if there is an issue with the product they will not help... also claimed the following pictures were took to scare him but were simply took for my review... these people are scam artist that play victim. I placed my order on Nov 24, 2025. I can't get a response from the company after multiple emails and calls. I'm trying to cancel my order but nothing. I ordered on the shop app. I wouldn't order from this company again. Poor customer service. Other reviews aren't so great either. Should have done my research. I recently visited to get a late Christmas gift and got what I needed and more. The guy working there was a bit quiet at first but after a few minutes was very nice and friendly. They have A TON of different styles of knifes. I could spend hours looking at each one and the worker was very patient as I spent several minutes looking at different types. The person working 07/15 at 1PM was extremely unhelpful (they seemed to be under the influence of something). I came in to purchase a spyderco from their rotating display and when asked to provide the original box they simply went to the back for 5 minutes and when he came back he said they didn't have it. Most of these knife stores always provide the original packaging. During this time several customers came in and out and I'm sure some sales were lost because he 1- couldn't find the box and 2- was completely out of it. ugh. it's not that this store didn't have the item I wanted (which was disappointing), but rather that the young man employed there didn't even bother to get up out of his chair in the back of the shop to assist. I guess it was too much trouble for him to come to the counter. He just informed me they were all out, his boss wasn't easy to reach, etc. He sat there totally uninvested in customer service. One of the most uncomfortable shopping experiences ever.... The employee that was working was clearly under the influence of something and kept zoning out while stating " I think I've just lost my mind today" while trying to answer very simple questions. 3 other groups came and left in the 30 minutes it took him to show us two different knives and ring us up, Several times he asked me to help him remember model numbers... Although his "eyes weren't working well enough" (young guy) to identify whether there were new ones on the shelves and he resorted to selling us the display pieces, expensive Benchmade models he knew nothing about. If it wasn't for a gift card we were forced into during a previous return we would've never returned back to the store. Quite frankly, we felt very unsafe given the disoriented state of this person handling an array of sharp objects. Find another reputable store...this was frustratingly concerning to say the least. read more
