    Banana lassi ($5)
    Michelle E.

Himalaya Kosheli is a hidden gem! The food is authentic and delicious, the workers are incredibly friendly and show great hospitality, and the menu is expansive with reasonable pricing. FAST FACTS: * Parking - good size lot in front of the building with free parking * Online ordering - available through their website for pickup * Closed on Mondays * Lunch buffet available from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Tuesday through Sunday SERVICE - The workers are all super pleasant and friendly! We were greeted as soon as we walked in, they made sure we had refills and cleared dishes throughout the meal, and even made us complimentary chai teas to take with us because it was freezing rain outside. All the food came out quickly and they checked on us several times to make sure we had what we needed. Couldn't ask for anything else! PRICING - The total was $82.27 after tax ($6.27) but before tip for a banana lassi ($5), chicken momo ($12), pork thukpa ($13.50), Himalaya goat curry ($17.50), achari chicken ($15), garlic naan ($4), jalapeño naan with cheese ($4.50), and Kosheli naan ($4.50). I think the pricing is reasonable considering the food quality and portion size. BANANA LASSI (8/10) - Refreshing and delicious! Good level of sweetness and wasn't overpowering with banana flavor. I'd order this again. CHICKEN MOMO (10/10) - A must order! You get 10 momo with dipping sauces. They were steamed perfectly and the chicken filling was so flavorful! The sauces aren't even needed but are delicious as well, especially the spicy one. PORK THUKPA (9/10) - The thukpa soup was PHENOMENAL! The broth was packed with flavor and you get a great portion size... it's perfect to split as an appetizer! The noodles were a perfect texture and the raw red onion, tomato, and cilantro on top added a great element of freshness. The pork was good but slightly tough... I'd order this with a different protein next time. HIMALAYA GOAT CURRY (8/10) - The curry is super hearty and aromatic... it has an earthy flavor with plenty of herbs and spices. The goat was super tender and also packed with flavor! You get a cup of basmati rice on the side. Definitely worth trying! ACHARI CHICKEN (10/10) - This was the unexpected favorite! I absolutely LOVED the acidity from the Nepali pickles and the chicken was super tender. It was labeled as spicy on the menu but I didn't get much heat. One of my favorite curries I've had! Again, you get a cup of basmati rice on the side. I'd order this again and recommend it to others! GARLIC NAAN (7/10) - Very good but on the thinner side compared to some naan. Plenty of garlic flavor and crispy bites throughout. I'd order this again. JALAPENO NAAN WITH CHEESE (8/10) - This is the perfect Texas fusion... not authentic by any means but delicious! There's no spice but you get the jalapeño flavor and it's packed with cheese on the inside! It's thicker and fluffier so it's very filling. I'd order this again. KOSHELI NAAN (10/10) - I've never had anything like this... absolutely delicious! It's a sweet naan and can be enjoyed like a dessert. I don't know everything that was in the filling but there's definitely coconut and it tastes almost like a sugar cookie. I will order this every time I come! This was my first time at Himalaya Kosheli and I already can't wait to go back! It's a beautiful fusion of Nepalese and Indian food with top-notch service and an extensive menu of unique offerings. I absolutely want to try the lunch buffet next time I'm there! I will recommend Himalaya Kosheli to anyone in the north Austin area looking for flavorful food with reasonable prices and great hospitality!

If you're craving a buffet that hasn't been shrinkflated than this place hits the mark. The lunch spread at Himalaya Kosheli offers a generous selection of various dishes and doesn't skimp on the meats. The variety is the real winner and the quality is up there for a buffet. My only complaint is the chicken was on the dryer side. My favorite was the creaminess of the palak paneer combined with the juiciness of the lamb. When I come back I'm for sure getting more of that combo. It wasn't busy on a Friday around noon but the dishes were still stocked and fresh naan kept coming out. They even have hot chai on tap. Prices are also so good for a buffet you could get a variety plate for less than the cost of most entrees at other similar places.

Came here again for the lunch buffet and it was just as good as the first time! The selection was a little bit different from the last time we came which I appreciate and it was still super good. I would love to see this spot become more popular because the service and food is fantastic and it is such a great price.

We've taken to go from here a few times and really like how they package everything so well to ensure no spillage! I am not super familiar with Himalayan/Nepalese food but glad Austin has this establishment to try a different cuisine. From what I can gather, everything is very flavorful and a bit spicy, despite trying to make dishes not spicy so just a heads up. Kothey Mo:Mo-I've had this once before and it was more circular in shape like a bao zhi and these reminded me more of a dumpling, but the taste was definitely different than a dumpling. It came with a herby tasting sauce/dressing on the side. Samosa-2 to an order, well fried, generously filled and comes with two sauces the brown one was sweet/tangy and the green fairly neutral and light. Gobi Manchurain-I really liked how these cauliflower tasted, pretty spicy but I couldn't stop myself from eating as I enjoyed the sweetness and the heat. Chowmein-A generous amount of noodles with your choice of chicken or vegetable included in the $11 or add shrimp or paneer for $1. The chicken was a bit dry to me but luckily I am a carb lover. The flavor is very different from Chinese versions as this one has a kick to it. Himalaya Goat Curry-Honestly, this was my least favorite of all the dishes as the flavor was just intense and spicy and way too difficult to eat and just overall unpleasant. It seems as if all we got were huge pieces of ribs/bones with very little meat and just sharp little pieces of bone. Most of the meat was really tough to eat but sometimes you would be surprised with a pretty tender piece. Tikka Masala with Lamb-This dish was a winner, and unlike the goat the flavor was spot on, some heat, sweetness and savory. The pieces of lamb were really tender and just a really enjoyable dish to eat, especially with the naan. Garlic Naan-I liked how you get two pieces, and enjoy the garlic flavor but think if they added even more garlic/butter it would be the cherry on top! Overall we enjoyed the food here and would def come back for everything we ordered sans the goat!

    Chicken Tikka Masala

Walking into the restaurant really surprised me with how nicely lit and spaced out it was! We got seated in one of the booths and the seats were fairly comfortable. The samosa filling isn't too strongly seasoned and it had a very nice crunch when I bit into it. It felt a little oily but given that it's a deep fried dish it didn't take me by surprise. As someone who isn't too familiar with Indian or Nepali herbs, I really enjoyed the filling but if you're someone who enjoys more well seasoned samosas, it may not be up to your standards. The chicken tikka masala was great and the chicken didn't feel too dry and was nicely marinated. We ordered garlic naan to finish scooping up all the sauce cause it was so good!! Even on its own the naan had a strong garlic and buttery taste which I really enjoyed. The mango lassi was a bit of a miss because even though they used fresh mangos it had a slight sour aftertaste after each sip. Overall really enjoyed my experience here. Would love to come here during their lunch buffet to try out more dishes in smaller portions.

    Chicken Thukpa

This place takes chicken noodle soup to a whole new level. Chicken Thukpa soup is my new favorite comfort food. Spicy flavor-layered broth filled with chicken, perfectly cooked noodles, and herbs and vegetables. The broth is kinda sour and umami and salty and certainly spicy (but not too spicy). Did I say spicy? Also very temperature hot. Yummy! The veggie momo came with a spicy sauce and a calm sauce, both flavorful. The stuffing tasted like many minced cooked vegetables mixed together. Very nice but I did like the soup better. I might try the chicken momo next time. Overall I would return. The service was helpful and polite, the food was cooked fresh to order, and it was great to try something new. The place is clean and in good condition. Very tidy. If you enjoy Indian food you'll love this Himalayan variant.

    Veg Jhol momo

Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. Had no wait time. My friend who recommended the place mentioned it is more of a takeout spot, so I don't think you'd be likely to encounter much of a wait. I was reminded of this place when looking online for vegetarian soup dumplings. While they don't have that, the jhol momos were intriguing enough that we decided to come here Saturday evening. They were certainly the star of the meal and if you haven't tried them before I'd definirtely recommend giving them a shot here! If you've never had momos before and are sensitive to spice this might be a bit much to start, since the broth is packed with flavor. It's also a broth where the spice will build on you over time, I'm pretty good with my spice but I definitely was noticing some tingling on my tongue by the end of the meal. We started with the Thicheko Aloo, which are boiled potatos with Himalayan spices. I thought they were pretty tasty. I haven't had a ton of Himalayan food, but we both found that the flavor profile was almost identical to that of the Jhol broth. Very tasty, but would have liked a little more diversity of flavor. I saw a salted lassi on the drink menu and had never heard of it before so I gave that a try. As the name suggests, much different than the more common sweet lassis I've come across in the past. The texture was much thicker, you can certainly tell yogurt is the base. Outside of the fermented yogurt flavor I could really only taste the very prevalent mint. I'd be curious to see how this compares to a plain lassi. I wasn't clear if that would be sweetened, but I was surprised none of the seasonings traditionally in a salted lassi (cumin, ginger) stood out flavor wise. Didn't dislike the salted lassi, but probably a one time thing for me. A few minor, but understandable downsides to our experience. The service was pretty slow, particularly given the restaraunt was closer to half full than entirely full. Could be that there was a lot of takeout business, but definitely on the slower side. One other small downside is that a lot of the staff is limited in their English. At the end of the meal I asked the person who brought us our check what the difference between the plain and salted lassi was, and they gave me a bit of a dumbfounded look and didn't say anything. Again understandable and not a major ding, just worth noting. Overall, I think this is a solid spot and worth checking out for the Jhol momos if you've never had. However the rest of the menu and the overall quality wasn't anything super special where I'll see myself comng back here

I like the atmosphere. There are booths and tables each with fake flowers to give the space a colorful look. The chili momo was delicious. Not too spicy and the sauce was sweet. The goat curry was good but I'm unsure of the appearance of adding two peas to the rice. It was cute though! They give bottled water instead of water in cups. The servers seem friendly but the waitress didn't seem to understand English well. She kept asking me if I was Japanese. I told her repeatedly I was Chinese. All I wanted was a to-go box for the food. Luckily, another server understood and I was able to get the to-go boxes. I also got the he Mango Lassi, which I also got a to-go cup for. This was very delicious and creamy. This is a must!
