We went out of our way to stop in Fernie and have dinner at the Himalayan Spice Bistro. Our friends had told us about this restaurant. It was great with wonderful flavors. The restaurant was clean. The service excellent. Best Indian cuisine we have had in a long time. If you are in Fernie I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Great Indian food. Very good service. Enough food that we had to get boxes for home! Go for the garlic naan. Yum! Butter Chicken was great. Hubs got lamb khadi (?) something. Outdoor parklet seating. Worth the walk to the end of town.

My son and I grabbed a bite before the hockey game back in January. His first Indian/ Himilayan experience. Cannot stop thinking about the food here. Very cool place! read more
Such fabulous service by an adorable waitress. Great command of the menu and made us feel welcome and unhurried. We were struggling to decide because everything sounded so good! Not pictured, the mango lassi I chugged before I remembered! I did speak to the waitress about a good menu item to add perhaps--a thali. A great way for customers to try numerous items! Perhaps one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian offered each week. read more

The staff was all extraordinarily friendly and gave us great menu recommendations as well as checked on us throughout our meal in a genuine manner. The food really delicious! The chicken shahi korma and baigan bharta were standouts! read more

Had a delicious take away order for the family with a variety of curries, naans, fried appetizers and more. Order was ready on time, hot, and packed accurate. Planning on coming back for more. Tip: When you enter outer vestibule, there are two doors. The door on your left is sit-down restaurant. For take-away, go ahead into the bar; food will be at the counter. read more

Absolutely delicious, one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Any bad review on this place is a scam.

We ordered carry out while on vacation and absolutely loved it. The Dal Tadka, Saag Paneer, Baigan Bharta, Basmati Saffron Rice and Naan were excellent! We carried out because we have a dog and didn't realize you had a patio. We will definitely return when we visit Fernie next summer! read more

Better than average Indian food. Our server was friendly, and the food was pretty good. The naan were very good. The dishes were served at the requested spice level and a very good hot sauce was provided on the side for those of us who wanted it. Good choice for Indian food in Fernie. read more

First time here as we're visiting Fernie. This restaurant has everything: great service, ambiance and delicious food!
Clean, bright flavors on the two dishes we had and really wonderful garlic naan. Colorful decor that' feels fresh. Service was super friendly and paced well. Would hold its own in towns far larger than Fernie!! Well done. read more

I don't give 5 stars to just everyone! There should be halves, I felt 4 stars didn't do them justice but 5 might be a little much! Like food from the Indian sub continent? Me to! You'll like this place then. I stick to what I know most of the time. Perhaps a little afraid to try something new for fear of not liking it. We first came here on our last visit to Fernie in October of '20. Our first getaway during Covid. Sat out on the hastily made street side patio and really enjoyed their food. So, we've come back to Fernie and where do we go for our first meal?! Here of course. Starting with a couple of Samosas to share with a couple of nice Chutneys. We ordered some rice, of course, a Butter Chicken, Chana Masala, and a Paneer along with some Garlic Naan. It was a bit of a struggle to get through all that. For two that might be too much, unless you are starving. The Butter Chicken is the usual but with a slight difference. A definite Fennel flavour came through which made it a little different. Both the Paneer and Masala were fairly traditional. A heat setting of 3/5 seemed about right, no overpowering the other important flavours. The decor is very simple. The original brick wall that one sees in so many Fernie businesses is very prominent. Service was fast, friendly with 3 or was it 4, different servers all pitching in. The only downside was a band in the bar they own next door doing a sound check (6PM) and a draft that seemed to cool things down quickly. All in all a really enjoyable meal with good service. I guess we'll be back again next time we are in Fernie! read more

Awesome food! Spicy but not crazy hot! Sauces are delicious, mostly tomato based. All naan breads are very good. Highly recommend

Great place to check out in Fernie!!! They have excellent service and are very friendly. The food is quite good & comes plated in very nice dishes. They have a ton of vegetarian options available which was great for me. I recommend asking for the hottest possible if you like spicy because the heat on the "medium" was barely noticeable for me (I like my food quite spicy). They do get busy during peak dinner hours but they always do a great job to make sure the food comes out in a reasonable time. For sure a spot to hit if you are in Fernie I have been many times and have never been disappointed :). read more

Samosas excellent. Great vegetarian options. Korma was only okay, would not recommend. Dal was great as was aloo gobi. Okra okay. Entrees do not come with rice so be sure to order some. Saffron rice was excellent. read more

I absolutely love Himalayan Spice. The flavours are fantastic, the menu has lots of variety, I eat way too much every time... it's all fantastic. The menu has lots of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options, too, so it's the perfect place for a group with various needs. One of my favs is the saag paneer, with way too many pieces of garlic naan. read more

This is an absolute gem of a place -- yet another killer Indian restaurant in a small BC town. We ordered takeout on our night stop in Fernie. They have a large vegetarian menu, and many can be made vegan. Everything we ordered was phenomenal. The bhindi masala was scintillating, with the okra cooked to perfection and some awesome nearly-caramelized onions. The dal makhani was one of the best dals I've had -- the tomato in there worked beautifully and the spice level was intense but not overboard. The vegetable biryani was fantastic as well, with a huge amount of veggies (cauliflower especially) -- the portion was also ridiculously huge and would've been enough to fill us just with that one dish. We also got some garlic naan and allo paratha (potato-stuffed bread), both vegan, and great sides. We ordered everything "hot" and it was pretty nice -- not too overboard at all. $49 total for all that and we had more than enough for another meal the next day -- awesome. Super friendly staff, who are very endearing and hospitable, even over the phone. Can't say enough good things about this place. If you like Indian, visit this place. read more

Fantastic North Indian dishes with an added flair of Himalayan spice to make them extra special. Delicious tandoori & recommend the Kashmiri lamb rogan josh. Garlic naan and saffron basmati rice were good too. Worth a trip after a day outdoors! read more

I'd give this place 0 stars if I could. First up, food took an hour and a half to get there. Yeah yeah yeah I see on the website that it says something along the lines of "45 mins but could take longer" but STILL. I had to call to ensure food was on the way. Secondly, small portions. Thirdly, maybe the assumption is people ordering aren't Indian and don't know the difference with what they ordered but I sure as hell know the difference. Anyways, hard pass for me. read more

The food is awesome, so much depth of flavour. The prices are very reasonable. The house cocktails are something everyone should try. Could not believe how good they tasted and how much flavour they had, and super unique so don't be scared away by them. They sound unusual and they are, but a very good kind of unusual. read more

Spent a night in Fernie and happened upon this place. The smell was amazing from the moment we walked in. There were a number of outside tables, but our party of 3 decided to eat inside. We had the Kashmir naan- Delish! For dinner we had the mango chicken, which was tasty, but the chicken was dry. Had a lamb dish and a veggie which I can't remember the names of but both were very tasty. The only odd thing was no rice came with the food. We asked for some and the waitress brought us a huge bowl of fragrant basmati rice. All in all, a really good meal. read more

We enjoyed our meal here but wouldn't say it blew me out of the water. But we did try a few new things we hadn't before so maybe that was why I didn't love everything. The cheese naan was very yummy and we loved the potato dish we ordered. I would also say the butter chicken was yummy. The spinach beef dish we had was just ok, I got a bit of a bone or cartilage that turned me off. The madras curry chicken was ok but wouldn't order again. Service was good though. We did wait quite a while for our food. The restaurant itself could use a bit of paint and the washroom didn't look super clean to me (mainly the floor). I'd say this is a mixed review for me as I think my husband and his friend liked everything better than I did. read more

Been a while but this needs to be said and Fernie folk need to be aware. Last night we called ahead and made reservations. When we arrived we were told that it would be just a bit for our table. We waited 45 minutes just to get drinks brought to us and I had to get them to come to the table. There were 2 other tables asking for their food and wondering what was taking so long. After about an hour of waiting we were guided to a very small table right at the front door of the restaurant. We first sat down at a nicer larger table in the middle of the restaurant but were told it was reserved! We called and made reservations and nothing. So we continued to our little table and ate our dinner. I kept looking over at the big table that never had anyone sit at it. When our meals finally came out our friend never got his samosas. We all ate our appetizers he didn't get to enjoy his. I ordered an order of 1/2 tandoori chicken. I got something way different and was advised that they were out of chickens! They never told me they were out they just gave me what they thought would be a good substitute. I was hungry and just wanted to get out of there so I ate it. Almost finished my meal when I felt a crunch in my mouth. I put my finger in my mouth to find glass in my mouth! I spit out what I had and ran to the washroom to rinse my mouth out with water. When i returned to the table Carrie was showing Bobby more glass off my plate. So when it came to bill time my friend was charged for the samosas he never got, so after all this terrible experience they never even comped me for my dish that was wrong in the first place but had glass in they knocked 15 % off the bill! So folks if you plan on eating at The Himalayan Spice Hut prepared for bad service and surprises on your food. I used to promote this business a lot and quite enjoyed the food. Sidley I will never go back more recommend it to anyone ever again. read more

Disappointed. We have heard such good things and I wanted to love it but it just wasn't happening. Perhaps I've been spoiled with having great Indian food with living in a city and also haven been to India. I got the shahi korma. I ate MAYBE half. The carrots in it were a bit crunchy. I can't put my finger on how come I wasn't a fan but it wasn't doing it for me. I also ordered it medium and it had no spice at all. I got the garlic naan, which could have used a lot more garlic, but otherwise was cooked nicely. My family got the saffron rice, mango chicken, and tandoori chicken, and they felt their meal wasn't great either. Overall disappointed as it wasn't great. read more

Read the review of the person who ordered takeout and was disappointed. I can't believe this is the same place! I have been here three times and every time was amazing. Gluten free options are clearly labeled ( mostly everything on this menu is GF): Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. All dishes that were ordered were hot, flavourful and good portions. Butter chicken was to die for and so were the mixed veg pakora. Can't comment on the nann as I dint have any but my dining companions said it was. Dry good. read more

Our family of five recently dined at Himalayan Spice Bistro in Fernie and had an exceptional experience. The owner and his three sons, who actively participate in the restaurant's operations, provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The meal was outstanding, featuring dishes such as Chana Masala, Dal Makhani, Butter Chicken, and Chicken Kabob. Each dish was meticulously prepared, showcasing authentic flavors that delighted the palate. The accompanying chai tea was exceptional, perfectly complementing the meal. Supporting local businesses is important to us, and Himalayan Spice Bistro exemplifies the quality and dedication found in Fernie's dining scene. The service was impeccable, deserving of a five-star rating. read more

You must drop in this great little restaurant in Fernie! Not a lot of seating here but definitely worth the wait! The saffron rice, Himalayan Beef Tikki Masala and garlic bread were outstanding! We can't say enough about this place! read more

This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff is also really friendly. They know what they're doing and what they're talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is pretty good, and for their prices it's 100% worth it. I recommend everyone to must give a visit Cheers read more
