Update of any comments 1,105 on February 17, 2022. My previous has twenty five votes and has thirty votes. This is a working coutt house. First floor has free admission museum. Second floor is for marraiges and adoptions. That means using example, if I age nineteen unmarried, give my child for adoption, the Adoptive Parents come to second floor to sign any necessary papers and or documents to adopt the child I gave for adoption. Third floor is where prisoners are taken for trial. I really enjoy the museum part.

Old Town Auburn - 9/16/22 Cool name and spot to take a break

From my separate City of Auburn review:…read more Auburn is an attractive city, especially Old Town Auburn, which attracts passersby on the highway between Reno and Sacramento with the quaint architecture on a hill flanked by a giant sculpture. Its small-town charm is likely why movies like Rocky and Bullwinkle, Breakdown, Wisdom, and xXx had scenes shot here, but the town relates most to the 1996 John Travolta movie Phinome Phenomin Phenomm Look Who's Talking. The guy who discovered gold here in 1849 was memorialized by Ken Fox with a 45-ton concrete (rebar and wire mesh) statue at the entrance of Old Town. Ken Fox was a dentist able to do this in between teeth cleanings and forcing customers to look at super close-up pictures of their teeth in order to sell "special deep teeth cleaning" by the quadrant. This dentist has more "Great Statues" in the area which you'd likely find ful-"filling". Get it? Anyway, it's right off the highway, so stop there and check out Old Town. Quality/Quantity - What a cool active town, see pictures…read more(and/or their website) of some current events. This might be our new pit stop...? Or a designated location? We usually go to downtown Auburn, so I am glad we came to Old Town this time. Atmosphere - Cool historic town. Lots of locally owned shops. Plenty of places to eat. Walk friendly but not sure if ADA friendly. Dog friendly, at least at the brewery. :) Service - Good, everyone we met was friendly. Price - Depends on where you shop, eat, and drink. Owner Comment - What a great fun town, looking forward to coming back soon when I have more time.

Considering the vast amount of friends, colleagues, family, and coworkers that are required to…read morereport for Jury Duty, I guess you can say that I am one of the LUCKY ones. Meaning that since I've moved to Sacramento back in 2001, I have never had to serve on a jury. If my memory serves correct, I've received a summons for standby over multiple occasions (2006, 2013, 2022, and recently, 2025). However, this time around, my number was ON the list where I had to report on Monday morning, bright and early at 8:00am. This takes me to the morning of Monday 3/24/2025. After making the drive to Downtown Sacramento (which thankfully I am quite familiar with), I ended up parking my vehicle in the dedicated "juror parking lot" which is located at the corner of G and 8th St's. As long as you display your parking pass (on the drivers' side of the dashboard), you should not have any issues with security giving you a citation. Since I got there at 7:30am, I wanted to make sure I had time to park and make the walk across the street to the "Sacramento County Superior Court" building since I hate rushing and that fear of being late for something as important as this. As many other reviewers have stated, this place is old, dilapidated, and in dire need of repairs. From what I was told, they will be building a brand new courthouse in 2026-27 with far more luxurious amenities. Because being in here is like a time warp back to the 1970's; uncomfortable vinyl chairs, outdated linoleum flooring, everything screams nostalgia and not in a good way. However upon entering (as there are two different entrances) , you are required to put your belongings (keys, phone, jewelry, belt) in a metal detector while the armed officers will check you in. Once you go to the Jury Commissioners Office (located on the 2nd floor), they give you a roll-call similar to going to school on your first day of class. My name was selected for courtroom #29 (on the 4th floor) and I was one of 48 jurors for a criminal case. This courthouse handles both criminal and civil cases on a regular basis. This is what got frustrating and those that know how slowly the government gets things done, they move at a snails pace. We did not get seated inside the actual courtroom until 11:15am and by the time noon came around, it was time for lunch (from 12-1:30pm). When you combine the recess breaks with the judge, bailiffs, prosecutors, district attorney, and lawyers, the whole process can drag on for what seems like an eternity. I came back on Day 2; Tuesday 3/25/2025 where we didn't have to report to the courthouse until 9:00am. Since there were 12 primary jurors, come find out that I ended up being selected as an 'alternate' juror (which are numbered 13-18) and I was 18th on that list. Oh lucky me! After answering all the required and valid questions that the judge asked each and every one of us (such as "do you know anyone present?", "are you comfortable in being a juror in this case?", etc.), I ended up being excused around 3:30pm on my 2nd day. Whew! I feel the time and process can be quite lengthy but also beneficial if you are not familiar with the justice system and had I stayed for the actual trial, finding factual evidence to reach a verdict. Guity or not guilty. When it comes down to it, I support and respect our justice system as a whole. I have friends that are attorneys as well as colleagues that do this line of work. Getting into this as a career takes the right motivation, courage, and mindset as you have to dissect and brainstorm various scenarios to reach a verdict of a case. But I also feel that in this day and age, not everyone should be selected to go to jury duty; especially ones that rely on their business/job as their primary source of income. I work for county government so I am taken care of through my department. But for others, its more of a challenge where the Jury Commissioners Office as a whole can do a lot better. With that said and done, I am giving the "Sacramento County Superior Court" just a two-star rating.

We were here for a traffic violation of the texting variety. Parking was packed even before 9 on a Monday. Got through to security and proceeded to get our service wait tickets via an e-kiosk. It took about 10 minutes before we were registered and told to go to room 30 where the traffic violations were being heard. Upon entering this courtroom, the judge was hearing testimony from a police officer while the "violating" party sat in the table a few chairs from him. Mikes were sensitive enough for testimonies to be heard inside. I figured that those who contested their citations went first as the arresting officer were present during the hearing. This went on for some time, and a 15-minute recess ended the scheduled disputes. It went like a breeze after that as those with petty traffic citations were summoned in batches of three's. I sat with my teen during the proceeding and the judge was thankful for my presence. We luckily got off a forgiveness as this first-time violator was a minor. We spent a total of 2 hrs and 30 minutes overall. Not quite what I planned for a Monday morning, but I'm sure glad it got the result it did.
