While in the area looking for a bite to eat on a Wednesday evening, my friend and I happened to stop by a nearby restaurant in the neighborhood. Since there was an hour wait at that restaurant, we decided on HK on the Bay. Thankfully, there wasn't a wait at all so we were seated right away. Our server came to our table right away and gave us time to look over the menu. We were very intrigued with all the menu options. They offer normal bar-type food like wings, fries, nachos and egg rolls but they also offer meatloaf, fajitas, chicken & dumplings and seafood as well. I decided on the Crab Dip, Loaded Brussels Basket and Southwest Egg Rolls and my friend ordered the HK Rolls and a side of Garlic Risotto. The food was served fairly quickly and everything was pretty good. The Loaded Brussels were my favorite; however, I probably wouldn't get the Gouda on it next time. I tasted my friend's HK Rolls and they weren't bad, not my favorite though. Since it was Wednesday, I inquired about their "$.75 Wing Deal" and the server said the deals are over at 9pm, even though they close at 10pm. I thought that was very odd to end their specials before the place closed and since it was a little after 9pm, it would've been nice to know that in advance. Overall, we had a nice experience. After getting turned away from another restaurant and facing over an hour wait at Chick's, we decided to try HK on the Bay right across the street -- and I'm really glad we did. We walked in expecting a wait, but were seated immediately, which was already a huge plus. The place honestly looks a bit like a neighborhood bar from the outside, so I wasn't expecting much menu-wise... but I was pleasantly surprised. The menu is actually really solid -- I'd describe it as upscale bar food with some creative twists. My friend ordered the Brussels sprouts, spinach artichoke dip, and Southwest rolls, and everything came out looking great. I ordered the steak and mac & cheese egg rolls (they call them something else on the menu), and I have to say -- they were surprisingly delicious. The idea sounded a little odd at first, but they were crispy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the spicy Southwest ranch dipping sauce. I also ordered the garlic and cheese risotto with the intention of taking it home. I tried a bite while I was there and it was rich and very garlic-forward, which I initially enjoyed. However, when I went to eat it the next day, the garlic was extremely overpowering -- to the point where I couldn't finish it and ended up throwing it away. It was a bit disappointing because the texture and base flavor were good, but the garlic level was just too much. I also want to give a special shoutout to our waiter. He was a young guy who was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, gave great recommendations when we asked, and was genuinely friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Service like that really makes a difference, and he definitely stood out. Overall, I'd definitely go back for the appetizers alone -- they were the highlight. What went well, yelp?? EVERYTHING!! I never would have guessed this unassuming, small neighborhood bar would have such amazing food!! We started off with the appetizer special which was Caprese Crostinis (sorry, we were so hungry, we dug right in, totally forgetting to get a picture). It was really good! For entrees, my hubby had the Pork Belly bowl, which he said was really good with just the right amount of spice. I opted for the butternut chicken gnocchi, and oh, my word! It is so very good!! Okay okay, HK has been a favorite of mine for YEARS. Located in the heart of chicks beach, they are a neighborhood favorite. Whether you're going post-beach on the weekend for a wrap, or heading there for a date night, their menu never and service never disappoints. They have a great happy hour from 3-6 PM, and weekly specials like wine night, tostada night, steak night, oh and can't forget about music bingo! We came on a Tuesday for Tostada night, which I've never tried before. But first, we ordered a bottle of cab and the seafood nachos to start. Do not get me started on these nachos! I crave them. The tortilla chips are piled on top of crab soup, topped with shrimp, crab, mozzarella, lettuce, tomato and their hell sauce. Hands down the best thing on their menu. For tostadas, we had some fun. We tried 4 different ones and you get to build them yourself! We did two steak, one with pineapple salsa, lettuce and spicy ranch, and one with black bean and corn salsa, steak sauce and lettuce. The other two we did had shrimp, lettuce, pineapple salsa and one had spicy ranch, one had red pepper aioli. For $6 a tostada, it was a steal. We cut them into fours and had about two pieces of each with plenty leftovers. Good ambiance with a local vibe nestled in the neighborhood. We ordered the 11 oz. Sirloin with Asparagus. I had mine prepared medium well and my friend ordered his medium rare. The cook did a great job preparing our sirloin steaks! However, they were stingy with the asparagus ($4 for 4 stalks). This was my 1st time here as HK. I am sorry it took me so long. The food was throw your fork down delicious!!! We started with tuna bites, She Crab Soup and Crab Dip. And then someone ordered the Crab Cake entree. The tuna bites had a good flavor but they were overcooked. She Crab Soup was delicious and the Crab Dip was freaking amazing. It came with so much bread and the dip was full of Crab and so creamy. Perfection! The Crab Cakes had no filler. Some of the best I have tried. The mashed potatoes were delicious and so were the asparagus. Everything was perfectly cooked! They have a great HH from 4 to 5. Its a bit small inside but it was full of families and groups of friends. There is also an outdoor patio. Patrick took such wonderful care of us. Knowledgeable and very friendly and helpful. After going around looking for seafood (4 restaurants to be exact), we stumbled upon this little hole in the wall tucked away near a residential area by the beach. I must've gotten there around 9pm because there was a band starting to set up for their performance. Once we sat, it did take a while for the waiter to come to us and take our order. I ordered the Coconut Shrimp Scampi with linguini and added broccoli, while a friend of mine ordered Flounder with fries. I was a bit hesitant of what I ordered because of the coconut and scampi combo with linguini, but once my food arrived, my mouth started to water. I took one bite, and let me tellllllll youuuuuuu, I immediately started digging in for more. The coconut in the lime sauce wasn't overpowering. It was the perfect amount of coconut flakes on the meal. The jumbo shrimp were definitely tasty and juicy and the broccoli had the perfect bite to it- not too crunchy or soggy. I had a forkful of the flounder, the batter was seasoned lightly, but the fish was def tender and somewhat flavorful. I didn't bother tasting the fries. As the band played, the tiny place became crowded. Patrons are early 30s and up. Bathroom had a little sewage smell, which was understandable because if location, and if you want a booth/table near the stage floor, get there by 830. Ah-maz-ing --- It is a must go (multiple times) when we are in the area. I'm actually glad they are further away so I don't spend all my money there. Friendly servers with good happy hour specials. $4 orange crushes are my go-to. My favorite two items are the wedge and the tuna tacos. Their wedge is one of the best I've ever had. Visiting Norfolk and got invited to try this local hideaway. It was music bingo night, and the place was definitely packed and a bit noisy so probably not the best choice for a quiet date night. But the food was surprisingly tasty! The tuna bites were probably some of the best seared tuna I've had in a while, and the crabcake, which is known to be one of their specialties, was equally good. Steak night is incredible. Thursday evenings, great deal, with great drinks and a good atmosphere. We came in around 5:30pm and were seated quickly. They have great outdoor seating, but it was super hot and muggy so we chose to sit inside. Our server was wonderful, but I forget her name. She did however tell us that she had been there for about 20 years and was a previous teacher. If management can gather who this wonderful server is, please give her kudos for being welcoming and giving great recommendations and service. Drinks; I got their cucumber cooler cocktail which was very refreshing.. perfect for a hot day. We started with their Brussels which were also good. For my steak; I got the ribeye with two sauces on the side. The blue cheese sauce and the HK steak sauce. They were both delicious, but I surprisingly preferred the steak sauce. My steak was cooked to perfection and the risotto was some of the best I've ever had. If you can't tell, I highly recommend HK. Like cough syrup was mixed in it or something. I've eggs Benedict my entire life and have never tasted it like that before. I took my first bite and reacted so much my husband was alarmed. This is a delivery review. I won't really comment on the temperature of the food because I used Grub Hub for delivery. We had the same meal that we had on our first check in at HK. Everything was good except, there was so much crab shell in my crab cakes that I actually hurt my gums. I know this is not an easy feat to get all the shell, but there was a lot. Still the flavor is so good and normally I love their crab cakes. My hubby loved his Gouda Steak Mac n Cheese. Seafood Mac and Cheese: This hit all the cravings: pasta, seafood, and cheese. I saw other Yelp reviews praise this dish so I had to get it. When the description on the menu said crab soup I wasn't convinced but yes crab soup. The dish was STEAMING hot throughout the entire meal (and I'm a slow eater but my tongue was still tingling till the end!). My mom thinks the chef was on their phone while making the soy sauce based sauce and just kept going at it with the soy sauce lol 6 oz Sirloin: Dad asked for medium rare and he got it but the steak was extremely dry. It's not like we were looking for the oozing of red juice but there was just lack of liquid whatsoever. The broccoli was hard and almost raw and the mash potatoes were okay. Was a bit disappointed because some people on Yelp had good compliments towards the steak. So this was our first dinner where we didn't bring our dog but they do have a dog friendly section! When we arrived there were no tables so we waited for about 20 minutes. During this wait time a man had a heart attack so EMS came which extended our wait time. Throughout this whole thing the workers were very attentive and accommodating despite a medical emergency so I highly praise the staff. They gave us water while we waited and checked in on us multiple times. Towards the end of the meal we were invited to play one hit wonder BINGO but we didn't know any of the song so we left. This place is not very welcoming .. so you come in thru the back and there's an area that says wait to be seated and no one came for about 5 minutes. Upon sitting the music was obnoxiously loud and it didn't help that the bar including the bartender were high pitch screaming over it at the football game. I ordered a shecrab soup for a started and I've never seen shecrab soup come out with that watery of a consistency so I was scared to eat it but to my surprise the flavor was good. It took quite a while to get our drinks but they were worth the wait. When we FINALLY (long wait) received our food it was really good and good portion size, which is good considering the prices. We're locals and this was still our first time here. We had friends come in from NY that stayed in a VRBO close by, so we decided on here for an anniversary dinner and to see everyone. The Brussels were amazing, but I love Brussels sprouts. The mac n cheese egg rolls were awesome! Try both of those things for sure! We have go here a lot...so how can I not hook this place up with a nice review? This is as laid back as you can get in this area. The one stand out to this restaurant is the people. They are all so nice, and really, just awesome. I am appreciative of how hard they work since this place can get busy. We normally eat outside on the porch/patio area. It's quieter, and there's good music playing. GET THE BEIGNETS, AND SUB THE CARAMEL WiTH CHOCOLATE ON THE SIDE. There, I said. That's my one tip. It's delicious. The poke here is really good. The tuna tastes like it was caught right around the corner. I know my wife always gets the fish tacos, so I'll speak for her and say they are yummy ...and the portion size is ridiculous. This restaurant is extraordinary and that the food service and the ambience are excellent!

When we visit the Norfolk and Va Beach area we always try and make it over to HK. Recent experience was spot on - service was good, bathrooms were clean, and of course the food was tasty. We usually start with the seafood nachos and ask for the soup and hot sauce on the side as sometimes it can make the nachos too wet for our taste so this way we can control the soup and the heat. We've had the wings, steak, fajitas, and seafood Mac and cheese. All of them were delicious. We will definitely continue to visit when able! read more

I had the surf and turf fajitas and one of the local VA craft beers. I realized that there are also 4 local beers on tap. We were both very happy with our meal and our waitress was great.
