I hired Hobbs to repair my in fridge ice maker. At first I was very pleased with John, who was thoughtful and responsive. After several visits with repairs that did not work, the senior Hobbs/owner came and promised to return to fix it. Since then I have been ghosted- calls and texts neither answered nor returned. My ice maker is not functioning. I am very disappointed. I recently filed a dispute with my bank and have had my $400+ returned (by the bank). Cannot recommend Hobbs Appliance. read more

MISDIAGNOSED BY HOBBS! I reached out to LG directly after that and it didn't take long for an LG subcontractor to properly diagnose my refrigerator. It was neither the french door nor the compressor as Matt has stated. There was a freon leak in the cabinet and they said that it can't be repaired. LG took great care of me so before you contract HOBBS or anyone else you should try and contact the manufacturer first. Matt you can try and twist this however you want but there's a lot of other similar reviews like mine about you guys so good luck trying to justify your actions. 8/10/23 Update I got an email today from the owner of Hobb's, Brandon, asking me to call him to discuss my initial review. This was the FIRST time someone has asked me to call them after a poor review so my interest was peaked... I gave Brandon a call and the first thing he did was APOLOGIZE for my poor experience! What? An owner who cares about a "one-off" review? Well, that's just the kind of guy Brandon is. He owns this family business and truly cares about every customer experience. Brandon explained to me that I was caught up between two companies dealing with recent policy and procedural changes. He admitted that the right hand didn't know what the left was doing and my poor experience resulted from this issue. The good news is, Hobb's and LG are now on the same page and I have every confidence that my experience would be much different today. THIS IS HOW YELP IS SUPPOSED TO WORK! As consumers, we have a voice and when something isn't right, we should let it be known, to give the business an opportunity to make things right. The problem is, most don't make the effort like Brandon. Because of Brandon's customer focus, I've changed my rating to three stars, just based on our phone call. First off I have never written a review before and don't want people to get the wrong impression. I was trying to fix my own oven,I am pretty mechanical and can fix a lot of things. I had a career owning 3 large European car repairs in Austin over a 40 year time span.I ordered a part from LG & it came in and was not an exact match,so I ordered one from someone else. When it came in it was the same part as LG sent me. I called LG directly & was told that my old part was discontinued. They gave me Hobbs Central Texas Appliance phone number to call. I called took pictures of both circuit board and e-mailed them to Hobbs, they took the time to do the research and call me back told me what was the difference. I told them I had replaced the ignitor like everyone on the internet said & told them to come out and give me an estimate, the technician told me I had replaced the ignitor for the wrong burner,I replaced the broiler ignitor not the oven ignitor,they gave me an estimate of $450.00 which I thought was high, $175.00 for labor & $275.00 for parts. I had just bought an ignitor the week before for $69.00 ,it was OEM, The tech said they only use LG Parts. So when he came to install it (had to order it) it came in the same box the one I bought the week before, did not have LG any where on the box. I used to have to mark parts up at my car repairs ,but I would never charge someone more than they could get it at the dealer. The person/persons I dealt with were friendly & knowledgeable, the price was just what they quoted me ( no surprises) the technician was friendly & knowledgeable. The issue that I pointed out regarding my compressor in my original request for quote was the issue and was not validated until I requested the technician to come back out to confirm. My main issue is unresolved and remains unresolved. I have ordered another compressor for my refrigerator for someone else to install. Only giving a 3 rating instead of a 2 rating bc of the response time and the technician was polite and thoughtful of my home to wear shoe covers. read more

Our refrigerator stopped working two days ago. No cooling. Electrical parts seem to work. My wife got on Yelp to find a repair service. Hobbs repair responded quickly with a good appointment time. We booked it and were stoked. My wife was home alone when Tony showed up late to the appointment. But no big deal. He proceeded to inspect the refrigerator. Took off the back panel and swept out some dog hair. He then made a few wild claims: 1. That the dog hair may have caused the refrigerator to stop working. 2. If it's not the dog hair then it's some copper/aluminum connector that's known to have problems on these models. 3. If it's the connector then we'll need to get a new appliance. 4. He assured my wife that the compressor wasn't the problem, She took his word and paid him $97.32 for his services. When I got home we discussed the matter and thought it sounded fishy. So we called Mr. Appliance to get a second opinion. They showed up promptly and quickly diagnosed the problem: faulty compressor. They also pointed out that the appliance was under the 5 year warranty and LG would cover the repairs. Our refrigerator model has a known design flaw that causes compressor failure. Hobbs repair fed us some BS and took our money. I would not recommend using them. Find a larger and more reputable business. read more

In other words, he declined to give himself business that would not be in the best interest of the customer. You can't ask for more than that. Tony responded quickly to my request for service when my Maytag refrigerator when on the blink. Super friendly and professional. Not what I expected from previous experiences with repair techs (some are pretty shady). He quickly diagnosed the problem. Unfortunately it was the compressor. Instead of hard selling me on a replacement, Tony advised me to purchase a new refrigerator as the repair cost was too high considering the age of the unit. Tony waved part of the service fee since he could not repair it. He even cleaned up the mess which is unusual for most techs. Hate leaving negative reviews, but this is unbelievable. Last month the washing machine started making a noise and sounded like the bearings were going out. Found Hobbs as they had a 4.5 rating, and had them schedule a time to come fix it. Technician shows last Friday and I describe the issue. He says it sounds like the drive train, but I remember from the last time, that my machine does NOT have a drive train. No worries no one can know everything about every machine. He tells me he has to put it into test mode... 10 minutes later I see him looking on his phone (thought he was just looking up Youtube Videos but was corrected by the manager, Brandon, that he was looking up on their portal). He finally gets it into test mode and tells me he has to hit these buttons to do it and cannot hit the power button. 10 minutes into testing he hits the power button and interrupts the test. 5 minutes later, he tells me it is not doing anything and he cannot get it to work. I tell him to unplug it, wait 30 sec. then plug back in. (standard IT resolution) We decide to have him replace the bearings and schedule a time for him to come back the next day (Saturday) He shows up and begins to use an impact hammer to remove the screws on the basket. He is down to the last 2 when I walk up. He starts unscrewing it, after 4 sec. he tells me the screws looks like it is going to strip. He proceeds for another 5 sec. and says,"yeah.... I think it is about to strip." Then proceeds for another 10 sec. and strips out the screw. I asked him why he would continue with an impact hammer when he thought it was about to strip. He responded,"well it was going to strip." He then proceeds to do the exact same thing with the last screw so he has now stripped 2 screws which need to be tapped out. He says he will have to order new screws and come back later next week to fix. I call the manager, Brandon, on Monday and explain the issue to him. I tell him that I do NOT want the same technician and he tells me that he will come out with the technician on Wed. to do the repair so he can train the guy more. I say that is fine and wait for him to show. Brandon calls me on his way Weds. and tell me that he is going to just drop off the screws and that they will Not be servicing me. I am confused and he explains that they are having too many issues with bearings so they will no longer service them. When he shows up I ask him flat out,"will you be replacing the screws and at least getting my machine back to the condition prior to his technician screwing things up." He says no... I ask him where should I send the invoice for the cost to have the screws tapped out ... He says they are accepting no liability and will not be paying for anything. He DID tell me that there will not be a service charge and that he is not charging me for the replacement screws he delivered. I respond with,"so basically, your technician stripped out the screws and you have no liability and I am basically screwed?" He responded," pretty much." Based on this lack professionalism, I cannot in good faith recommend Hobbs for anything. If they screw something up and decide it is not worth their time, they will just leave you out to dry. read more

I scheduled a service call to include a diagnostic for my refrigerator that is not properly cooling or freezing. technician arrived around 11:35am and began the diagnostic by measuring the temperatures in the freezer (53 degrees) and the fridge (64 degrees). He then photographed the serial number of my refrigerator and called his boss to discuss causes for the failed cooling. After a phone call with the boss, the technician stated the compressor and condenser both need replacing and proceeded to write a quote. technician did not pull the fridge out from the wall to troubleshoot or measure the performance of the condenser or compressor. technician performed NO work to determine the cause of failed cooling and freezing with my refrigerator. technician argued that the owner would need to pull the fridge out and determine the true issue and that performing a diagnostic is not his expertise, yet he was sent for the service call. After arguing with me the technician asked if I wanted him to leave my home, to which I said yes please leave. This service call was unacceptable, no work/diagnosis was performed. It's stressful enough trying to find a company to perform honest work and your company made this experience miserable. You should not take service calls if you are not properly staffed. read more

I have never written a negative Yelp review, but I guess there's a first time for everything. We called Hobbs Appliance Repair to fix our ice maker in our fridge. They came out and told us the motor was bad and the part was on back order. When the part came in the tech came back out, opened the freezer, took out the ice tray, and asked us where the rest of the parts are. He said that he removed the ice maker but told us we needed to keep the unit because only the motor was bad. He says he left the unit on the counter and we must have thrown it away. Unfortunately, this ice maker isn't sold as a unit and has 20+ parts that need to be bought individually in order put put it back together and many parts aren't available, so it's not repairable at this point. I ask him why we would possibly throw away something he told us we needed, and why he didn't just put it back in the freezer so this wouldn't happen (like he did the ice tray) and he says "yeah, that's my mistake and my boss just asked me the same thing, but there is nothing we can do to fix it and it's not their fault". I called the company to speak to someone about the poor experience and wasn't even allowed to talk to the owner or manager. I asked if they could try to find us a used assembly on eBay or anywhere else and they said no. I was told the tech left the part in on top of the fridge and it's not their problem (this is not even the same story the tech told me). No apology, no attempt to make it right. Just "we talked to him about the fact that the should have left the part in the freezer". I said I'm glad you talked to him, but asked what good that does me since I'm in a worse position than I was before I called them. They just told me again it's not their fault and there's nothing they can do. This company doesn't care about customer service or doing the right thing. Please beware. read more

Great service. I liked their website. They are not one of those -- "fill in your name and contact info - state your question" sites. Rather, the site lists common problems - likely solutions to put the consumer on a better footing. I like the simple appointment scheduling process, beginning with a live dispatcher who presents all the terms for an in-home visit. They offered to send someone out the same day. The young man who arrived was donned with mask and booties! I like that, too. For these reasons and more, Hobbs is my new appliance repair service. Thanks. read more

My dryer wasn't drying clothes as they should. They tested the dryer temp and said I had a clog in my vent. So I paid another company to clean my vents. My dryer still isn't working as it should. The man that cleaned the vent said my dryer still had trapped lint inside and the company should have cleaned that out when they were diagnosing the problem. He said the lint smelled burnt and it's not safe to use the dryer. I called Hobbs back and told them vent technician said and their response was "We don't clean out filters". The filter itself is cleaned and I cleaned it each time we use it. The front of the dryer is clogged thus making it a fire hazard. But Hobbs refused to do anything. Basically they are lazy, made a quick diagnosis in and out in 10 minutes and made their $100 service call. I will never use them again. They don't care about the customer....just care about getting to the next job. Cutting corners will hurt your business. read more

Immediately a rude lady called me telling me they were going to have to reschedule and said the tech called my phone which was a lie and that he took a picture of my front door and that they would send the, never happened. I have two dogs who bark when someone rings the doorbell and no barking.. Guess since it is New Year's Eve they want to get off early and lie at other people's expense meaning a non working refrigerator. The lady answering the phone is unprofessional and rude......and rude is putting it lightly. DO NOT USE these people!!!!!! If this is the way they treat customers just think how they are repairing your appliances. Don't waste your time or money with these people. read more

Only because there is nothing lower as an option. We had a claim through American Home Shield and this company was assigned. I need to mention that this claim is for my 80+ year old parents. The company sent out a technician and I was present for the interaction that happened. Technician looked at the dishwasher and said because we (parents and I) could not locate the serial number that there was was nothing that he could do to even diagnose that issue with the dishwasher. The technician took his flashlight and looked and could not locate the serial number either so he moved onto the refrigerator issue. As he evaluating the problem he is looking up parts and comments that "the parts needed they do not even make any longer". So he ends the visit with he has to go back to the shop and write this up and we will be contacted. Several days later I was contacted and told that they needed to send the technician back to the house for him to gather information and take pictures and send to the owner to help him determine if the parts were indeed available ( The company that bought the brand that we had was bought out and there might be parts) This was not comforting since this guy is an appliance guy and did not know that information, my parents at that point were suspicious and skeptical and I was very upset and I told the lady calling that I needed the main person to come to the job and deal with this and she said that was not possible. I asked her to contact the owner and she claimed she had done that and that he was not going to come but send the same technician that came the first time. I told her that I needed the owner to come and that I was dealing with 80+ year old parents and that it is hard to explain why we are dealing with a company and/or technician that does not know that a company has been bought out and that parts might be available with another company (one that bought the old company out). It is also impossible to explain or have them understand why someone just cannot deal with the dishwasher issue, if no serial numbers exist on the rim. I told her that I was calling American Home Shield and asking for a new contractor. I contacted American Home Shield and was told that they were waiting for the notes from the visit and would get back to me. I waited until today and called American Home Shield back to see next steps and was advised that Hobbs Appliance Repair cancelled my work order. The company claimed that they cancelled my work order due to the me requested for the owner to come out and his refusal. I am now having to go at this with another work order and my parents are still without a fridge and a dishwasher. The lady I spoke with when I called Hobbs Appliance Repair stated that she recalled the phone call with me and that I told her to cancel the work order. I cannot believe that these types of company/people exist and more importantly get to work for warranty companies. Why would I cancel a work order with broken appliances. Tony is a straight shooter. An honest repair person who will give you an honest assessment over the phone. I am a DIYer and have called Tony for advice on multiple occasions and he has taken time to help me out free of charge. Time is money but Tony is willing to build that relationship. When I have something I can't tackle, he will be the guy I call and write a check to. When I have asked him to quote a repair in the past, he told me the cost wasn't worth it on an appliance of that age. I called Hobbs looking for repair of my GE wall oven, after I'd already called around to other local appliance repair places. I was pleasantly surprised to speak with the owner, Tony, who offered to do the repairs for a flat $75 service fee. He said it could be one of 3 things, but wouldn't know until he saw it in person....but would still only charge the flat $75 even if it needed more than one repair. This is a much better deal than the other appliance places (including GE themselves) which charge $89 just to come to your house and tell you what's wrong...on top of the $ for whatever parts are needed...on top of additional $ for the labor. Some say they "waive this $89 fee if you have service completed" but their prices for parts and labor are very inflated, so it can really add up! Upon testing everything, Tony discovered we needed a whole new electrical control panel (not what we wanted to hear at first). However, he was very thorough showing us everything, and we could clearly see the burnt out relays/connections on the control panel. We tried calling GE to just see if they would provide us with the control panel for free (even though it was well beyond warranty). Turns out GE has had multiple issues with these control panels, and low and behold they agreed to FedEx us the entire control panel for FREE next day. (They normally retail this part for $225) Tony was very helpful in reading off the appropriate part and model # to the agent to assist us in ordering it via phone, and he was patient as we sat on hold making sure everything was ordered correctly. By this time, he'd been at our home for 2 hours and was not annoyed or in a hurry in the least...very easy going positive guy. Next day the part arrived in the mail. I called Tony, and he came over within a few hours to install it. Works perfectly now! It took about an hour to install, and he still only asked that we pay $75 for his services...even after 3 hours of total labor and two separate trips to our house. I insisted that we pay him no less than $100 because he was just so great to work with on every level. Before he left, he also checked out our LG dryer which was making a rattling noise and he adjusted the feet (balance) so that it's not quite as bad. He also gave us some tips on how to keep our front load LG washer from ever having problems . Lastly, I asked him about some freezer issues we've had with our GE side-by-side freezer shelving not staying in tact, and he provided an easy suggestion on how we can bend the shelving with vice grips to fix that too. There are people you meet in this world that are just GOOD PEOPLE and Tony Hobbs is one of them. I will definitely be calling him in the future if needed and would highly recommend him to anyone else looking for a trustworthy and reasonably priced appliance repair man. read more

I ran into Tony at the HEB deli counter in Pflugerville. I told him that I had seen his signs around our neighborhood and I needed someone to take a look at our fridge. He gave me his cell number on the spot and said to call him with the details. Which I did and I'm glad. The reason why I needed his help is that a good friend of ours had too much to drink one evening and she got into a fight with our ice maker. The ice maker lost. That was quite some time ago and we had gotten used to scooping ice out of the container inside the freezer rather than just sticking our cup up to the door. First World Problems, right? Well, along with the door dispenser being in pieces, the ice maker started leaking water and we began to have stalactites going down our freezer shelves. And in comes Tony. Sent him the specs of the fridge and he was at my place two days later. He immediately got to work and had the problems diagnosed in about 15 minutes. He looked up the cost of the parts on the spot and gave me a very reasonable estimate. He ordered the parts, fixed everything the following week and our fridge is making and dispensing ice like a champ. I can't recommend his services enough.
