Our room was well decorated and was fresh and comfortable. We were shown round when we arrived and given a pack of info relating to the area and stonecroft itself. The room had hot drink facilities and a shower ensuite with free shampoos, body wash, cotton wool etc. There was a TV and docking station, plus alarm clock and radio. The bed was comfortable and had great pillows. We woke to the smell of freshly baked bread. Fabulous! Food is excellent at stonecroft. Vegetarians and vegans are very well catered for,as are those on a gluten free diet. The cooked breakfasts are superb, as are cold breakfasts. I loved the jam choice especially. Nothing was too much trouble at stonecroft, we were treated very well indeed. Although there are more rooms,only 2 are ever let out at once, making it very exclusive at any time. There is off street parking, a garden and a lounge to relax in and a library to borrow from. Easy walk form the main town, good sized room with ensuite, ridiculously comfy bed with a plethora of extras like home made flapjack style biccies in a tin (these were a South African version) and fresh coffee and teas on a tray in the room. The breakfast was the best thing, with a Veggie and Vegan option, as well as Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, and scrambled egg with a secret ingredient. I was blown away! Mrs Atkinson was a hostess with the mostest, having a chat to all the guests over breakfast, but they couldn'y have been more attentive. £60 a night for 2 in a room, £50 for me on my ownsome including the yummy brekkie. I was sooooo stuffed I didn't mind the dodgy lunch at the training venue! I walked up High Tor while I was there, and down to Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham. About an hour and half all told. Matlock isn't a big place, but it is canny enough. This week (3rd to 7th August) is the Bakewell Show, so watch out for queues on the roads.

I was delighted to find that both the owner, Abigail and the high standards shown on my previous visit were both still very much present. I had a very comfortable double room, offered voluntarily at the single room rate, and slept very peacefully in beautifully decorated and furnished accommodation. Things like tea, coffee and toiletries were in abundance and although tastefully traditional there was a refreshing amount of power points and storage facilities to hand. The parking right outside was more than ample and the location is central without being exactly in the city centre. I was recommended a fine pub oposite for evening food and took advantage of it. I was also pleased to find that there is a small playing field at the back which in my days of morning running would have come in very handy. The breakfast was absolutely A1 and service could not have been more prompt or friendly. I was actually surprised that credit card payment (missing from so many indepenent B&B's) was installed along with the latest flat screen televisions. The owner takes takes the business seriously but with a smile If that makes sense. If you find yourself in this part of Central England try it, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. The cottage itself is really beautful, the town of Wirksworth is very pleasant, and the surrounding Peak District countryside is nothing short of stunning. The house itself is a pretty Edwardian town house and has ample car parking. The one thing you will remember is the breakfast. It is fantastic. In fact it is so good the local tourist board have given it an award. I have stayed here 4 times now and would not stay anywhere else when coming to Peak District. What a delight this place was! The innkeepers were friendly and accommodating. The rooms were comfortable, perfect temperature, heated tile floor in the en-suite twin washroom and wonderful food. I had a poached egg and smoked salmon breakfast, and packed lunch for our hike the next day. The innkeeper's dog was also a sweetie. I'd definitely recommend this bed and breakfast to everyone passing by Bonsall!

The location is ideal for exploring Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and further afield but the house is sited in the quietest of spots. Jane and Tom keep the place in totally pristine condition and you would really struggle to find fault anywhere. Our bed was comfortable, the room and shower room en suite are large and the food is excellent, right down to having fresh milk for the tea in your room. The superb selection of fresh fruit, cereals, breads and of course the Full English for breakfast just topped of our marvellous stay. I actually feel bad writing such a good review because it will likely make it much harder for me to be able to book in there again. I have to be honestit is a truly first class establishment!

The hotel is family-run which really shows as you're made very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. We arrived on a Sunday lunchtime, and though all the restaurant tables were full and bar food isn't usually served at that time, they were happy to squeeze us into a corner and we had a wonderful lunch. Batemans doesn't do food on a Sunday evening, but provided us with a comprehensive printed list of alternatives complete with directions and guide prices. The hotel only has 8 rooms so feels like staying in a family home and never feels crowded. The building is (as you'd expect from the name) a converted mill and has been sensitively converted into a hotel. Breakfasts were enormous and really set us up for a day's walking in the Peak District. We didn't need to eat lunch at all during our stay and looked forward to Bateman's wonderful food in the evenings. The accommodation and food were very reasonably priced, and the whole experience was great.
