After reading several 5 star reviews about Hoffman Auto Repair I took my 2017 Kia Sorento there to have all four wheels aligned after buying new tires. When I arrived at their shop and told them I was going to need to wait for the repairs. When they heard that they drove me home and then came and got me when repairs were done. Their staff were very friendly and seemed to be well trained. As for the alignment, the cars drives straight without pulling to the side as it had done and their prices are half of what the dealer wanted to charge. I'll be sure to go back if I need any out of warranty work done on my car. read more

This place is a rip-off artist. I took my 2011 Audi Q5 Because my heat went out. They took apart my car to confirm a blower and resistor failure when a simple scan tool would have done that. When I told them no to the work after giving me 3 different quotes. I go and pick up my car and it's taken apart and parts are missing.. They couldn't give me a good explanation why it wasn't put back together or taken apart. They offered to put it back together I refused cause I was uncomfortable and angry. I needed to have the emissions checked on my car before renewing my license plates. My sister told me about the new location of Hoffman's Tire & Auto. I had been here last time I needed emissions when it was located around the corner on a side street. They were nice then and this time was no different. I walked in and was greeted warmly. A young guy pulled my car into the testing area while a man handled my paperwork. He informed me he could do everything right then and there. I was in and out in under 10 minutes with the testing complete, the sticker on my plates and in possession of my test results and my receipt and a copy to keep in my car. Boom! Just like that I was on my way to fun things for the day! If you need emissions testing I recommend this shop for their kind professionalism and the ease of it all. I've been going to Hoffmans for 3years now on an initial recommendation from a friend and they were fast, good, and the prices were reasonable at the time. In the last year however, they have both charged and tried to charge me more than double the cost of parts (not including labor) several times. I arrived at 9:50am to see four people already waiting for emissions tests. By 10:15am, the front desk was refusing people walking in saying they were at capacity. This is such a broken system and the fact that so many places are no longer offering them is so frustrating. The front desk said they receive $2/test, and they're meant to do 3-4 tests a day and are doing 40-50. I don't blame this shop, but something has to change. The front desk unironically told a woman she should consider arriving at 8am to get in line for 10am emissions testing. read more

I tried this place on a whim, because my cousin brought in fliers, which had $5 off of a $25 oil change for their grand opening. Found the place to be very clean, with very nice owner. Al is the owner and he is about as personable as they come. I had the oil change, they fixed a loose valve stem on my tire, and have since been back for a brake inspection, and I am even using him for some auto body work. On top of being great place to bring your car to be serviced, they are also very affordable. No out of place suggestions by the staff trying to get into your wallet. They simply want to fix your car and get you on the road. They also have killer gourmet coffee and a popcorn machine in the waiting area, to help kill the time. I would suggest this newly established business to ALL of my friends and family (which I already have done). read more

I could not speak more highly of this auto shop. Our van broke down on our way from Milwaukee to Chicago on the night before Christmas Eve when nearly everything was already closed, and Hoffman's stayed open for us late and even drove us to a hotel when realizing we'd have to wait until the morning for a part. Then they picked us up first thing in the morning! The van has never sounded better--I think they not only fixed the problem, but possibly other problems too. The price was also great. The worse service ever!!! I wanted some tires mounted, instead of having the suppose mechanic tell me, NO they cant be put on because of so and so. They put them on and say "oops", they dont fit because your truck is an AWD and you need all 4 now. I know if the tires are AWD and tires are the same it should be fine. I feel all they did was stiff me from my money. So before anyone gets anything done at this place make sure its in writing because the shop is not professional or honest. I regret going there! They told me because we mounted the tires we cant return them. The truck has not even touched the ground. They should have been professional like they say they have been around for more then 10 years. They should have offered other tires if theses were not going to fit. read more

No longer a good shop, first my wife bought tires there first rotation they charged me. Then they replace the muffler and had to go back twice because it was not secure. and last the weld cracked that they they did and the heat shield was hanging so I brought it in and they said 35$ to secure the shield I know insane but I wanted it done. I leave from there and they never even secured the shield, think about that 35$ for a couple of washers they aren't there to help you out please find another shop. read more

The owner himself assured me he personally took my car for a test drive but when I brought it back (because it was obviously still not fixed) he changed his story and said he never got the chance. Showed me what was wrong, fixed it in an hour and a half at a decent price. Also recommended future items so I would have a figure to compare to my regular service place. 6/27/17 had my vehicle at this place for a complete inspection. They did front and back brakes, a tune up, replaced a sensor blah blah blah...all to the tune of 1350.00. Today 7/20/17 got in my vehicle, started it up and every brake warning light lit up the dashboard. Drove it straight over there where they of course told me it has nothing to do with anything they did. Of course not! Find that hard to frickin believe!! Even if it didn't....complete inspection 3 weeks ago by these yahoos!! Do not take your vehicle to them unless you want the age old nightmare of once they get their hands on it it will be one thing after another...and of course none of it their fault, just pay us more! read more

My girlfriend and I were en route to her folks in the heart of Wisconsin from Chicago. We planned on stopping at the Brat Stop for lunch, but her car starting having a coughing fit with the Check Engine light on just as we were getting close to 75th. We pulled off to the rest area to reassess the situation and found Hoffman Auto on yelp close by. Not only did these extremely nice people accept our walk-in emergency at mid day, but they had a shuttle van to drop us off at the Brat Stop while they took care of our car. The problem was diagnosed, a new Cam Sensor was ordered, delivered, installed, and we were back on the road in four hours. At the time we went there, Hoffman had only been open a year. The place was clean, the people were friendly and approachable, and the cost was affordable. We could not have had a better experience considering our circumstances. Thanks Hoffman. read more

I have officially decided to never use this automotive shop again. I started using them when I was a college student that moved here from 3 hours away and I need a quick tire repair. Everything went great...then I had my check engine light go on about a year later. They some how connected it to my fuel tank. After I got it back the engine light was off and I was happy until I wasn't able pump gas unless I constantly held onto the pump which took pumping gas from 5 mins to 30 mins. I didn't even go back after that but had a family friend back in my old home fix it. I had no issues later on until I recently got into an accident. The only person I could think of was Hoffmans to quickly two and fix my car. I was going to give them a second chance because I'm that kind of person. The damages where high and me not knowing what anything meant just went with it. I had insurance and wasn't worried. Come a month later and my car is clicking my struts are shot and I need a brand new evap system. Everything they supposedly fixed for $1,900. I think that's my sign to never use this business again. There service is great and they always answer but the quality of work is terrible. I think I would rather have a great working car than a smiley mechanic to bull shit me. read more

My husband and I were on our way to northern WI when the alternator started to die on our Honda civic. We managed to exit the highway and found Hoffman's with high reviews on Yelp so gave them a call and asked for an estimate. They called a local tow truck for us AND ordered the new alternator so that it was waiting for us when we got there. We decided to go with them rather than waiting for AAA tow truck (which probably would have taken hours, even if it was free) and it was a good call. They did some diagnostics to make sure there wasn't some other issue, and then they fixed it and we were on our way to vacation! Al came and talked to us a few times so we knew what they were doing/how it was progressing. The service was speedy and reasonably priced. My husband and I got a flat tire on the highway late on a Sunday night. After reading the reviews posted of Hoffmans, we decided to try them out. We called Monday morning and they were really great. They were super nice, efficient and really did eveything they could to get us back on the road as soon as possible. They even gave us a ride to go get some lunch while we waited. We ended up just replacing all 4 tires. And I can honestly say I'm kinda bummed we don't live closer because I would definitely continue to bring my car back to them for anything that may come up. But so far the tires are great. My car is very happy. read more

I was told once by Al that someone would call me back in 5 minutes and no one ever did, so I called back and Al told me that he would call me back 15 minutes, and still no one called. I brought my truck there for a simple alignment. When I dropped it off I took a picture of the odometer and fuel gauge. After the first time they aligned it I immediately dropped it off as it was in the same condition it was in when I dropped it off ( the steering wheel was off because the last place that aligned it didn't straighten the wheel out when they did it). So the next day they called me and said it was done. When I picked the truck up and was pulling out of the parking lot I noticed that when I turned the wheel the truck wanted to keep driving straight as if the rear end was locked up, but I thought it was probably nothing and just took it home for the night. After pulling out of their parking lot my fuel light came on and had to go straight to the gas station. While filling up I looked at the pictures on my phone to make sure and they used a quarter tank of fuel (25 gallon tank) and put 41 miles on the truck. I have been driving the truck for 10 years and never burned that kind of fuel in that short of time, that should have lasted at least 100 miles. While I was driving back to my shop I noticed the thing still wanted to go straight and the rear end would not unlock. When I got back to the shop I pulled the cover off the rear end and the teeth were all chewed up and the rear end was locked in posi rendering the truck a ticking time bomb that could not be driven that way without risking serious further damage and potentially locking it up completely on the highway causing an accident. After waiting a week to hear back from the owner Al Hoffman because he was on vacation in Florida when this happened I tried being reasonable with him and only asked him to pay for the parts to fix it. ( I certainly didn't want them working on it again because who knows what they would have done now that I called them out on their customer vehicle abuse). I thought I was being pretty fair and reasonable. Then because he was not getting back to me I needed the truck so I just went ahead and fixed it. After being very polite and trying to be as fair as I could be with the guy as I being a business owner myself I know how it is and Al Hoffman is not the one working on the truck and doing the abuse it was his employees, so as long as he made it right then what more could I ask for. Well finally after calling several times and being told he was with a customer I stopped in there 3 weeks later. This is when Al Hoffman told me that I had no proof that his employees abused my vehicle and the damage was caused by that abuse. I told him the truck was fine when it came in and broken when it left with an excessive amount of fuel consumed. He again said I had no proof, to which I said, even if I was standing here watching them beat on it you would still tell me that because you weren't here with me watching. To this he replied that I was right and basically told me too bad it's not his problem. Then I told him I will be making sure to leave reviews online and make sure to tell everyone I can find about his poor business practices. His response to this was "you own a busiess too and that can go both ways". I told him this has nothing to do with my business and only concerns my personal vehicle and he again told me he can essentially give my company bad reviews as retaliation. At this point I lost my cool and started yelling at which point one of his employees came out from in back and then Al Hoffman yelled at me to get out of his shop and started walking and getting up in my face along with his employee. So obviously I left. And now that it's 3 weeks later, my right front tire is showing serious signs of wear and needs to get aligned again because they couldn't even do that right. So I would NOT recommend this shop as they abuse their customers vehicles and then if ask them to pay for it they will tell you that you have no proof of it and then if you try to do anything about it they will retaliate against you in any dirty way. These are a bunch of scum bags who make a living by screwing their customers. THE COST OF FIXING THEIR ABUSE TOTALED $1154 NOT INCLUDING MY TIME!!!!!! I HAVE INVOICES TO PROVE IT. read more

This review is long overdue. It was the summer before last when we were headed into central Wisconsin for a weekend with family when we exited I-94 to visit Mars Cheese Castle for some soft cheese, summer sausage, and a couple of brews. Just as we pulled up to our first light, there was a large clunking sound which I associated with losing a wheel. Luckily, that wasn't the case and the bartender at Mars directed us to Hoffman's for assistance. Turns out that the drive-shaft on my 2006 VW Touareg had come lose from it's cowling and was banging against the undercarriage. Clearly it wasn't drivable for long and needed immediate attention, which could cost a pretty penny. Luckily we had Al at Hoffman's take a look at it -- he had been a long-time valued mechanic at another local auto shop and had just purchased Hoffman's a year or two before. Good news was that he found a used replacement part that would limit our costs. Bad news, it was 4 o'clock in the afternoon and the repair could not be done until Monday -- and we were due north of Madison that evening. Without skipping a beat, Al offered us a courtesy van for the weekend free-of-charge so that we could preserve our weekend away and directed us to simply bring the loaner back on Monday to pick up our car. Al not only saved our weekend get-away, but was courteous, professional, and proactively concerned about containing our costs. It all worked out great Thanks Al! We owe you! read more

I did not trust this man the second i walked in the door. Al Hoffman came off as a dirty car salesman trying to pull the smooth talker routine. He tried to convince me i needed all kinds of work done on my vehicle, being a newer car and not trusting his crooked smile i took it for a second opinion. They are also not bbb accredited so that should tell you a lot. After it all was done they also left my car dead completely. This shop I thought was very honest and trustworthy reading from a review dated from 2010-2011. Brought my truck for fuel leak and check engine lights. What a mistake I made. They fixed the fuel leak and replaced the knock sensor which they told me needed to be replace, then reset the check engine light. Been back and forth for 2 months for the same check engine light and knock sensor problem. They finally gave up and told me take it to any repair shop and they will pay for the repair they can not fix. Took it to the dealerships and they won't even return my call to talk about paying the bill. This shop is more concern on taking your hard earned money. No integrity at all. If they do they should at least return the money for the things they can not fix. Very bad experienced with this shop. Will not recommend to anybody. Don't be taken by Al sweet and friendly talk. Never again to deal with this shop. They are good on state inspection and help you out on little things like low air pressure etc ..just to earn your business for the more serious problem in the future. Then they got you... I hope nobody will experienced the same way I did with this shop. I wish you luck if you still consider this shop for your car needs. read more

2/12/16. I've been going to Hoffman's for years. I support local business and have always found Al to be friendly and helpful. I took my 2012 Hyundai Accent to his shop on 2/4 to get my emissions test done, the check engine light diagnosed and repaired, a radio installed, the tires that I bought from Hoffman's rotated, and an oil change. I had an electrical problem diagnosed by Hyundai that was said to be fixed by installing a new radio. I told Al the details, and he agreed to perform all the work for a fair price. I left the car overnight, and was advised that it was ready for pickup on 2/5 in the morning. When I arrived at his shop, the car was gone. Al said his tech had to take it for a test drive to reset all the sensors for the emissions test, and would return shortly. I waited 15 minutes for the tech to return. When he returned, he advised that he couldn't get the car to reset and asked for me to return the following day to perform a "cold start test" or something of the like. He stated that the car had to be cold in order to perform the test and allow the vehicle to pass emissions. This is a point later on in the review. I was provided my keys, and wished a good day. When I got into my car, it reeked of oil and gasoline. I didn't make an issue of it. I checked to ensure that everything was functioning correctly, and observed that the trip odometer button was inoperative and would not respond to my touches. I went back in the shop and advised Al and his tech that the trip odometer button was inoperative. The tech said "Hmmmmm, yea, I noticed that" We stood there for a good minute or so in awkward silence until Al said that I had to return to Hyundai to obtain further assistance, because they diagnosed the electrical problem fix to be replacement of the radio and charged a $100 diagnostic fee. I asked the tech if he correctly hooked everything up when he swapped the radio, and he stated that he did. Today, 2/12/16, I returned to Hyundai and provided the paperwork from Hoffman's showing that the radio was replaced along with the original paperwork showing that the only required repair was a radio replacement. I was advised that another $100 diagnostic fee would be assessed if it was found that Hoffman's failed to perform a required step in swapping out the radio, but if it was a different mechanical problem, my car was still under warranty and they would fix it. I was advised that a piece connected to the radio was still disconnected, and that piece would have had to have disconnected in order for the radios to be swapped out. The tech showed me where the piece was connected from behind the speedometer and trip button to where it was supposed to connect to a piece on the radio. Hyundai only charged me half of the fee, which amount to approximately $55 with tax. I returned to Hoffman's and showed them the paperwork stating the findings and Al stated that he would have to write me a check and asked me to return on Monday. I agreed and had the emissions performed, after driving the car ALL DAY. It passed without an issue, but the tech couldn't figure out how to input my license plate into the system to renew the plates, so advised me to renew the plates on my own. Al called me later that day quoting the paperwork referring to a cluster and stating that his technician didn't unplug any cluster. I advised him of what Hyundai said about it needing to be unplugged in order for the radio to be swapped out, but Al vehemently denied that his technician unplugged it. I can NOT believe that after all the years I have been going to Hoffman's, Al is going to lose a customer over $55! $55 is not a lot of money, it was the principle that the tech at Hoffman's should have followed through and made sure that everything was connected and when I pointed out that it didn't work, they should have taken the car back into the shop, and looked. Had they looked, I'm sure they would have seen the wires hanging and been able to reconnect it. Like I just said, I'm floored that Al would let a loyal customer walk away for $55. It goes to show you the level of care they have for their customers. I STRONGLY recommend that people avoid this shop! read more

I originally had problems with a random cylinder misfire and the manager Al was very helpful in diagnosing the problem and giving suggestions for fixing it. He even allowed me to watch the testing of cylinder compression and a few other diagnostic tests. After attempting to fix the problem on my own, I ended up getting a new engine installed altogether. Al was able to get me a good price on a low-mileage engine which was installed in a short amount of time. Also, he provided a free loaner vehicle for me while my car was in the shop. Him and his team are very knowledgeable about cars and I would recommend his services to everyone I know. In addition, the place is very clean and if you are waiting in the lobby while getting something done on your car, there is complimentary coffee and you can watch cable TV. Al goes to great lengths to make everything comfortable and he gave me alot of information about exactly what he was doing to my car, along with a detailed quote for the cost of servicing my car. read more

We tried Hoffman's Auto & Tire because we wanted to deal with a knowledgeable automotive professional locally vs. a "kid working at a chain store". After having 2 tires put on by Hoffman's, being completely satisfied, trusting the knowledge & experience we decided to return 1 month later for the 2 remaining tires @ $ 283.00 & a "Complete Vehicle Detail" inside and out @ $180.00. We left the car for the day. While at home we received a phone call from Al Hoffman stating "he always likes to do a thorough inspection" and proceeded to explain his findings (this inspection wasn't completed on the 1st visit for the 2 tires??) He recommended the engine needed the "105K Service Package" @ $649.99. This includes, spark plugs, air & cabin filter replaced, 3 belts replaced, engine oil/filter replaced, flush/replace transmission and power steering fluids. We asked "why not change the transmission filter also?" Al replied "your transmission doesn't have a transmission filter". While on speaker phone my husband questioned "every automatic transmission has a transmission filter". "Well, yours doesn't, it simple doesn't have one" Al replied. Having felt comfortable and agreeing that we trusted Al's knowledge and experience we said "okay, go ahead and perform the "105K Service Package @ $649.99" in addition to the tires @ $ 283.00 & a "Complete Vehicle Detail" inside and out @ $180.00. After a few weeks of being curious, exploring the owners manual and consulting the dealership of the cars make we need to finish this review with the fact that our vehicle does indeed HAVE a transmission filter. The 90% plugged transmission filter was replaced today NOT by Hoffman's Auto & Tire. In today's economy, as hard as we all work for our money and make efforts to maintain vehicles is "Hoffman's Auto & Tire" the right shop for your next vehicle need?
