Been awhile since I've been here (certainly since my original review, but it's still been a few). Had the Tuna Melt and onion rings. The tuna melt was absolutely forgettable. (When I told our server I was on a quest for the best tuna melt, she had nothing to say. I understand why.) The onion rings, though, were excellent. Service was good, and the atmosphere was as I've always remembered it. My only real complaint was the same I'm witnessing at a lot of places - the dine-in guest has really become a low priority. We waited several minutes before staff mentioned someone would be right with us, and a few more before someone actually was. You know the feeling you get from your favorite comfort food spot? Being from Hawaii mine was always the original Liliha Bakery or Zippys- comfy, reliable, nostalgic. I didn't expect Hof's Hut to be that place for me here in SoCal, but here we are on a Monday randomly coming into Hof's Hut with a cornbread craving and severely in need for coffee. The food doesn't always hit 100% of the time, but the old school vibe and personable wait staff always does! They make you feel like home. I usually come here for the chicken pot pie. The meal comes with a choice of soup, salad, or fruit, and I always go with the salad and Thousand Island dressing. Their Thousand Island is really good and tastes homemade. The chicken pot pie isn't the best I've ever had, but it's still good and very hearty. I usually add a little salt and pepper, but overall it's satisfying. One thing I really like is that they always seem to have pot pie available; so many places run out by dinnertime, and that's never been an issue here. I've also tried their chicken fried chicken, which is tasty and pairs well with the mashed potatoes and veggies. The zucchini bread is another favorite of mine, and I wish they included it complimentary with the chicken pot pie meal. Prices are a bit on the higher side compared to similar diners, but the portions are generous, so it balances out. We've been going to the Long Beach Los Altos location for over 40 years and have always enjoyed it. We went yesterday for lunch and, as we do every year, picked up a "Fresh" peach pie to take home. Unfortunately, when we had the pie that evening, the peaches were mushy and had very little flavor. They tasted as though they had been frozen and then thawed rather than being fresh. It was so disappointing, especially since we've always looked forward to this yearly tradition. My nostalgia for this place didn't make up for the fact that the food was less satisfying than I remember it. I used to work across the street back in the 90s and would go here for lunch, usually with a friend. Great times, good service, food always made me happy. I was here last week for lunch and my friend and I were seated outside since the the weather was good for dining al fresco. I got the Fish and Chips which were not up to standards. The entrance to the restaurant is not on Bellflower Blvd. That is the back door. You could still park on the street and walk through the back door. I did. I've been going to Hof's Hut since I was kid. Always loved going with my parents so maybe its the nostalgia, but Hof's Hut always hits. Went with my wife and kid and it was still as great as I remembered. Not a long wait for a Saturday morning. Busy but still only 20 minutes to sit. We got the Melting Pot omelette and Egg breakfast. Nothing special but everything was as expected. Good coffee. I like that each entree comes with 1-2 sides and you can usually upgrade to whatever you like. I had a pancake that hit the spot. Overall--you can't go wrong with Hofs Hut when looking for a classic breakfast stop. read more

Ive been a customer for well over 60+ years! truely enjoy Hofs Hut Los Altos! it's our go to place for local comfort food. we generally get Kim to be our server. She an Angel... thoughtful , knowledgeable and makes sure our order is 100% what we order! I've really never had a single problem there and if we did they resolved it ASAP. If I could leave 0 stars I would, My husband and I came here Sunday for lunch with my mother in law. We ordered and our food came out quick, however my husband ordered the salmon with shrimp and the salmon was so undercooked. We spoke to manager she said she would have the chef remake it, brought the 2nd plate and it was still undercooked. Absolutely disgusting. I was so disappointed. My husband couldn't even enjoy his meal because the chef didn't know how to properly cook salmon. Never coming back here again. We were having a fundraiser here for our CSULB Staff Council so 20% of any sales went to our group. I stopped in to pick up a couple pies to bring to my mother-in-law's house. They had a lot of pie choices - traditional apple, cherry, pumpkin. All the creams - banana, chocolate, lemon, coconut. And then some specialties like lemon meringue and syrupy strawberry (not my favorite). I called the family and they chose chocolate cream and lemon meringue. The chocolate cream was missing something to make it set, like eggs or gelatin. It basically was chocolate pudding in a pie tin. It didn't stop all of us from taking big heaping spoonfuls. I have been to several Hof's Hut locations. I am a big fan of their diners and their other chain, Lucille's BBQ. They serve bfast, lunch & dinner. This location is on Bellflower off the 405 in LBC. I ordered the roasted turkey sandwich w/ fries. They also have an open faced turkey sandwich w/ mashed potatoes & veggies. The sandwich was packed w/ tender & moist meat. The only room for improvement would have been a little more S & P on the turkey, and a tastier roll. Nonetheless, its a lot of food w/ the fries. I couldn't finish everything, and I rarely leave anything on my plate. Regarding the ambiance, its old skool diner here. There is a bakery case as you walk in, and lots of tables for four or larger parties. Hof's Hut is very family friendly. Our waitress Liz was super nice and efficient. She made sure our drinks were full and we had everything we need. Hof's is in an institution in the LBC area serving hearty food at a reasonable price. I believe they have not succumbed to being bought by Private Equity. PE tends to run family-owned restaurants into the ground. read more

Offer includes choice of soup or salad, entree with two sides, choice of bread, and a slice of pie. So much food. Very generous portions. I ordered salad and Chicken Fried Steak. My husband ordered soup (Brocoli Cheddar).and the Meatloaf. We left with doggie bags and our pie slices to go! Service was excellent! Our server Liz, was so friendly and helpful. She made sure our drinks were stayed filled. She checked on us frequently and made sure we had all the containers and bags for us to pack up the leftovers! Parking is easy at this location. Have I changed or has this place changed? I remember Hof's Hut being more than what I experienced in my last visit. The parking here is near impossible on a Friday night. You park in back and the lot is shared by several other stores/restaurants. Talk about a nightmare. We almost left without dinner because we couldn't find a spot. Hof's Hut isn't to blame but this is part of the experience. The waitress was short; we got a table quickly. The place was not busy for an 8pm Friday night dinner. The waiter was friendly and took our orders. Be aware, this Hof's Hut only serves beer and wine. We were able to place our appetizer orders at this time. It took a bit and both the drinks and appetizer came out. We ordered our dinner. Awhile after the meals came out. I had the tuna melt. Everyone else (5 total people in our group) in the group ordered different foods. As we ate, several mentioned the lack of flavor in their food. The salt shaker got a workout! We passed on dessert as timing was slow between ordering and getting food. Like I said in previous posts, the service industry is struggling right now. We do understand and dont make a fuss when that happens. We paid the bill and, as usual, tipped a 20% to the waitstaff. Not sure if this was an off night or what was going on that we didn't see.
