At lunch time there is a carvery which has some really tasty dishes, not just joints of meat but there are home made pie dishes and pork in mushroom sauce and many other dishes to chose from. You can have two courses for £5.99 which may have gone up I haven't been over the last few weeks but the desserts are also delicious. I especially enjoy the plum crumble with custard but there are lots of choices. It is nice to go at lunch time if you have the chance and is very warm and cosy. The waitresses are dressed in complete waitressing outfits and really know what they are talking about when they describe the food. I love it there!

Everywhere is super comfortable and the beers are alright but the best thing is the incredible amount of photos, art, metal figurines and some real crazy stuff on the walls. I have been back twice since last week and never found it very packed but I am not sure why that is. It's clean, the beer is alright, it's central, the guys at the bar are lovely as well. Location, location,location!…read more You honestly can't beat the location of the Dean Court Hotel which is situated across from the York Minister. Prime location for walking the city walls, the Shambles, and more. Our room was tiny but there was room to prop suitcases on the desk and luggage rack. The bathroom was nice and modern and a good size in comparison to the room. Breakfast was included and I enjoyed coffee, yogurt and fruit. Some of the items on the breakfast line weren't available such as the breakfast lemon cake. Our only problem was that there was no hot water for showering in the morning!! Apparently there was a power outage in the middle of the night and hot water was not restored yet. When we checked out in the morning they were very nonchalant about it and didn't even really apologize for the inconvenience. They just stated the fact that it was out. It was definitely disappointing to not be able to start our day with a hot shower.

First, the service was atrocious. It was a miracle if we could even lay eyes on a server once every half hour. I ate half my steak with no drink because I couldn't hail someone down. Second, the atmosphere is very blah. Feels like a bunch of separated small rooms (which is probably why the servers can't see you half the time). Not festive. Not playing fun music. Nothing. Third, half the options for food weren't even available when we came in at 7pm on a Tuesday: no steak pot pie, no vegetable pie, no duck, no paella, etc. Fine, ok -- we figured some things out. A tasteless parsnip soup, an equally tasteless (and weirdly mushy) duck and leek terrine, and a charred ribeye that tasted burnt without looking like it (speaks to a charred grill that hasn't been cleaned). Won't be back. Want a good steak? Go to the Whippet Inn. This place is a disgrace.
