The day I dared to mention I'd had a rather pleasant, and cheap lunch in the Hogshead, I was met with looks of derision and expected leg pulling on my part. I was unaware it had any reputation as a bit of a rough pub, and in the fair few times I've been in I haven't experienced anything untoward in the trouble causing area.
When you walk in it's not quite a pub and not quite a bar either, there's sofas knocking around and pine type tables and chairs. There's also the brief moment you walk in and the locals collectively look at you, but it doesn't last long and it's not too bad.
We were actually really surprised by the food, a waiter came to the table, took the order, which was nicely shocking in itself, some of the menu bits were two for one, as was all desserts, and for the two of us i think the total came to £14 for a drink, main, and pudding each.
Saturday afternoons when the sports type events are on make the place a bit crowded, but on none match days I find it to be all ruddy right. read more
