    Tonkatsu Rice Bowl

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Paid $14 for 5 little pieces of chicken, little rice, and a handful of cabbage. Service was awful too. Cashier ignored my coworker who was standing in line to order.

    Corrected order with Steak Bowl

Not sure where I should start with my experience at Natsuboshi on the 2nd floor of Hmart Kaka'ako. I liked my sukiyaki bowl. But my friends and I were ticked off by the terrible customer service, which was borderline racist. I went with a local guy and a black guy from the mainland.  My local friend and I ordered our food. He had a steak bowl combo. Mine was just a sukiyaki rice bowl. I was busy talking with my other friends at the window seating area.  My friends heard our number being called. My local friend went to get food. The lady gave him a sukiyaki rice bowl, miso soup and gyoza, not the steak bowl. After inspecting the food against the receipt, I said that was not a complete order. So, my black friend went to get the missing dish. The lady cashier told him, "I gave you everything already." He came back confused.  I was little angry at that point. I brought the food tray back to the counter and demanded an explanation with my receipt. It took her a couple of minutes to figure out there was something missing. She said the steak bowl took a while to cook and will be ready soon.  What I don't understand was why she brushed my black friend off by telling a lie. After carefully analyzing with my local friend, he said there was a big group of black kids ordered before us. She must be confused with those who were in that group. My black friend is much older than those kids and was not part of that group. But still. Wouldn't common sense suggest that you check our receipt first?

I loved their takoyaki and my husband loved his karaage rice bowl! Hidden gem upstairs! Worth the visit for sure if you're in the area and decent price if you compare to the area and the fact that it's made fresh!

A very convenient location in Kakaako, easy parking, with lots of open seating. It's one of several vendors in a food court above H-Mart. Unfortunately, the food falls short, especially when compared to the competition in the area. I had the vegetable shoyu ramen and tempura bowl. The ramen noodles were hard and soup a little salty and not very flavorful. The tempura was alright, nothing special. There was a over easy egg in the middle of it that just didn't seem to complement the tempura. Service was good and fairly fast. The eating area is very comfortable, nicely spaced out and air conditioned. If I do go back, I'll be trying some of the other vendors in the food court.

Croquette Curry Rice Bowl, Karaage Curry Rice Bowl, and Miso Ramen

Conveniently located on the 2nd floor of H Mart, the karaage is nicely fried and went well with the curry since the chicken karaage lacked a little flavor and the curry was a bit salty for my taste. Balanced well with the rice. Croquette was ok - my daughter usually likes croquettes but there was not much to this one in terms of any extra vegetables or meat with the potato, and I had her eat a piece of my chicken just to have some nutritional value in her meal. My husband was pretty happy with his Ramen. Service was quick and attentive. The food court area is so convenient and always pretty quiet. I hope these businesses get some love. It is good to have options with so many condos and businesses in the neighborhood.

Miso Ramen & Sukiyaki Rice Bowl

Good proportions and sides to the main dish! Sukiyaki bowl comes with red ginger, onion, pineapple, egg, green onion and Miso Ramen came with too many to list LOL. Food didn't take too long and food court has the cutest decor/art walls.

I got the fried shrimp curry rice at about $17. The dish was fine. I like how they served the shrimp separate from the curry. Super light and d crispy. The curry was also good. Just super disappointed in the lack of anything else. No pickled vegetables, or anything extra. Portion was fairly small although you can get a bigger portion for only $3.50 more. If I was really craving curry and already in the area I might go back.

Nasu Bashi, Order 88 is ready. Nasu Bashi, Order 88 is ready. Sounds annoying after a while constantly hearing the computer not recognize the real name of this place, (Hokkaido Ramen) Natsuboshi! It's located on the 2nd floor of H Mart Kaka'ako. You get your parking validation right here if you're staying for over an hour. Remember to park only in the H Mart parking garage. Natsuboshi is similar to Ramen places such as your Ramen Yas, Daiichi Ramens, Goma Teis, and Hokkaido Ramen in Kaimuki (any relation?). The menu is pretty basic. Ramen is shoyu or miso (spicy or not spicy, special or not special). There's rice bowls (char siu, tonkatsu, karaage, or sukiyaki), curry with rice plates, and appetizers. All orders can be upgraded to bigger sizes. For ramen, it starts with 1 ramen, the next size up is 1.5 ramen, and the largest is 2 ramens. My first visit I got the Sukiyaki, regular size. It's not much if you're a big eater like me, but definitely perfect if you want something lighter or will eat other things as well. The sukiyaki beef was tender and quite flavorful, but slightly on the sweet side. It came with a very well prepared runny and creamy egg yolk with the whites cooked on top. I'd order this again! Perhaps a larger size next time. Next visit I ordered the Miso Ramen. There wasn't much miso flavor in the broth. It was more so chicken and soy based, and tasted like the sauce in local style chow mein. The thicker ramen/saimin noodles and toppings (green bell peppers, carrot, cabbage, bean sprouts, etc.) further enhanced the feeling. Don't get me wrong. The broth tasted fine, but there was barely any miso flavor. The char siu was on the lean and dry side. The bamboo shoots had a weird, soft texture that made it hard to chew. And how much more thin can the fish cake be? Overall, the food was fine. Nothing special. Just needs some tweaking, flavor-wise. Similar to the ramen restaurants I mentioned earlier. Staff was friendly. Food came out in the right amount of time. A decent choice if you're at the H Mart food hall.

    Chicken karage rice bowl

I came here during lunch. I ordered the chicken karage rice bowl. The chicken karage bowl had four pieces of fried chicken and a egg in the center. I thought the bowl was good. The restaurant is located in Hmart on the second level food court. There is private parking lot or street parking. I would have to return to make a better assessment of Hokkaido Ramen Natauboshi.

This is one of the places located in Hmart's 2nd floor food court. Before my first visit, I called in an order and it was ready at the estimated time. We tried 2 bowls, the sukiyaki and karaage. Both had excellent flavor and came with an easy over egg on rice. On the second visit, we tried some ramen. Specifically, the large special miso ramen and large shoyu vegetable ramen. The portions were big and in particular, the special came with 5 slices of chashu! The broth was on the milder side. Between the bowls and the ramen, I actually preferred the bowls. Service was good during both my visits.

This place is located at the H Mart food court in Kakaako. They specialize in Japanese cuisine. They sell mostly ramen and rice bowls. They also have sides dishes such as fried gyoza, croquette, takoyaki, tonkatsu, karaage, kinpira, calamari, and fried shrimp. We got the large karaage rice bowl for $16.48. It came with about 7 or 8 bite sized pieces of chicken over a generous amount of rice with sauce. In the middle of the bowl was a poached egg with mayonnaise. At first, I didn't know what it was. It took a second for me to figure it out and thought ok this is interesting. We broke the egg, mixed it with the mayonnaise and rice. It turned out to be delicious. The chicken karaage was nicely seasoned, moist, and crispy. I'd definitely return and give it another go.

Conveniently located on the 2nd floor of H-Mart. Just don't forget to get your parking ticket validated before you leave the store! The service here is top-notch. The employee taking the orders at the counter really seems to remember all the customers and points them out by name/order when ready. Super friendly, and very accommodating. As for the food, there were a lot of vegetables in the curry, a lot more than I'm used to. Sometimes I just want a simple tonkatsu with curry that has some carrots and maybe onions and potatoes inside. But there was a whole bunch of bean sprouts and cabbage too. As for the miso ramen, it also had a lot of bean sprouts and cabbage, which I could do without. The ramen noodles were cooked perfectly though. And the side order of croquette was nice and crispy. I just wish that the sauce for the croquette was off to the side. But I'm sure you can ask for that when you order. Overall, not a bad place to get ramen!

Located on the 2nd floor of H Mart. We were shopping around H Mart and was hungry. So hungry that we couldn't wait to go home and cook the food we were buying so we headed up stairs to grab a quick bite to eat. I remember eating here once before and the flavors of that sukiyaki bowl was really good... so guess what I got? Yup I got another sukiyaki bowl and the better half got a charsiu bowl. The meat was so tender and the egg was perfectly cooked. Next time we come here I'm looking forward to trying their tempura bowl. Looks so good. Once you get your ticket, listen carefully as they announce your number on the intercom. Remember to get your parking ticket validated before you leave H Mart for the parking lot. We'll that's if you parked in the lot.

You can also order your food through a QR code and pay online when you're done. There are also restrooms onsite. Parking is still small and can fill up when it's busy (you also aren't allowed to park in the Church parking lot) If you haven't eaten here before, I would suggest looking on their website at the waitlist to see how many people are on there prior to going there as they can get really busy. You can also put your name on the waitlist online so you don't have to do it on site. They have a really good text messaging system letting you know when your table is almost ready.

Overall, the ramen was very good, but I want to share an important tip about their waiting system so others don't get caught off guard. When your name gets close to the top of the list, do NOT wander away. They will call your name three times, and if you're not standing there, they'll cross your name off immediately. What surprised me was that they start calling names before the current customers have even finished eating or paid their bill. I had made eye contact with the host, pointed to my name and party size, and he acknowledged me. There were still people sitting at the counter eating, and it looked like it would be another 10-15 minutes before seats opened up. I stepped away briefly and came back, only to find my name had already been crossed off the list. The party that was supposedly leaving hadn't even paid yet and was still sitting in their seats. When I explained the situation, the host simply said, "Sorry, your time passed already. I called your name three times." Their sign says they will wait 3 minutes, but in our case it felt more like they called the name three times in quick succession and then removed it. Thankfully, after some discussion, he agreed to seat us anyway. So my advice: once your name is within a couple spots of being called, stay close and pay attention. As for the food, we ordered the Oxtail Ramen (spicy) and the Cashew Pork Ramen. The ramen itself was excellent. The oxtail was tender, although it didn't have a lot of flavor on its own in the soup. They provide a separate bowl with ginger and what appeared to be a ponzu-based sauce, and the intended way to eat it is to remove the oxtail from the soup and dip it into the sauce. That definitely enhanced the flavor. The restaurant is set up with bar-style seating in a half-oval arrangement. Your party will be seated shoulder-to-shoulder, and guests will be sitting directly across from you on the other side of the counter. I'd estimate there are about 25 seats total. Service is efficient, food comes out quickly, and most customers finish and leave fairly fast. For reference, we arrived at 8:38 PM on a Tuesday with 17 people ahead of us. We were seated around 9:15 PM, our food arrived by about 9:30 PM, and we left around 10:00 PM. Overall, this would have been a 5-star experience if not for the confusion with the waiting list. The ramen is absolutely worth trying, but understanding how their queue system works will save you from a potentially frustrating experience.

(They also have a cold vegan ramen) I waited until I tried all three of the warm vegan ramens to post this review. Each one has a different broth but all are topped with charred fresh vegetables that remain crisp yet melt in your mouth. Mmmmm! Love that they have eggplant and kambocha, simply brilliant! And the noodles are medium with a slight curl. They have great texture and a bouncy bite. But let's get to the broths. The first one I tried was the clear broth. It was light yet complex, fresh yet savory. The next one was the tan tan. It was creamy and nutty, rich but not gritty (like some tan tan ramens). The last one was the tomato broth, so unique and distinct. It was tangy yet sweet and aromatic. (note: they serve this with a shaker of Parmesan cheese to use as a topping, makes culinary sense, but I also don't consume dairy so passed on the topping). Now you're probably wondering which was my favorite. I don't have one. They are all different and delicious! No complaints. Only praise for three impeccably crafted dishes cooked with care. I adore that I can come back and eat whatever suits my flavor fancy. They also serve a vegan karaage. Crunchy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside but enough texture to make it feel 'meaty.' They do a great job with this dish serving it with a small salad tossed lightly with a goma-ish dressing. There is also a side sweet chili dipping sauce. I also am in love with their chips. Seems like a quirky item for a ramen menu but once you have it you realize how much sense it makes. Cut thin like air, the potatoes are cooked to golden perfection and sprinkled with Himalayan sea salt. It's a great crunchy starter before a bowl of warm sumptuous ramen and something other than your typical gyoza... Speaking of gyoza, they don't have a vegan option but my hubby tried it and always orders a side. They have options with cheese and garlic toppings too. Hubby has also tried their tonkatsu and shoyu ramen and slurped it ALL up. He was especially impressed with the shoyu ramen. All this deliciousness is enjoyed in an air-conditioned restaurant with an industrial steam-punk vibe. High and low tables accommodates seating for couples to groups. They also have a lovely lanai if you prefer eating outside. Street metered parking is easy to find, and they also have validated parking in the small lot. Junpuu is right across the Blaisdell Center so it is a great option if you're there for a fair, concert, or other event. The servers are courteous and efficient, and I give their playlist 5 plus stars. I usually find myself tapping my feet or humming along to the well-curated songs, classic and retro. If you are Gen-X you will totally understand! I came to Junpuu looking for a warm vegan ramen, I found three. And I'll keep coming back and rotating through their stellar selection of amazingly tasty noodle soups. Well, that and the karaage and chips. If you are vegan or vegetarian this is a MUST-try place. This has been one of our favorite places to grab a pre-movie night bite at Ward for years. I was so…read moresad to hear that the classic mall where this cozy joint is located at was being demolished in the name of progress, knowing that this place would be gone. Anticipating that they would be closing in a couple of weeks, we made sure to stop by this weekend to get our fix in. I was so eager to dig into my bowl that I ended up forgetting to snap a picture until after I'd already whacked away at it. Luckily, our server tonight told us that there's a good chance that they will be re-opening nearby in the old Scratch Kitchen location, so hopefully we can continue to enjoy this place in a different setting. My go to has always been their Beefy Wild Ramen. If I'm really hungry I'll opt for their Beefy Wild Beast when I want a pile of their awesome cha siu. My girlfriend likes both the Yuzu and Seabura. We both really enjoy their regular and spicy gyoza. There's always a short wait to get into this place, but it's worth it. Service is quick and efficient, and the food is excellent. I hope to see this place again soon, in a new location.

I thought it would be just Ward Warehouse but now Ward Centre. Now I'm wondering about the Ward Theatre area. Some have found new locations but I'm not too sure about Kamitoku Ramen. I remembered they were selling from their food truck and one time offered their ramen for $5? When they opened their restaurant at Ward Centre, a bunch of us got in for the $8 ramen with a can of soda. They are always busy so I did order take out one time. I was more interested in the appetizers! Crispy beef gyoza, taro tempura and even garlic tempura. They have tofu prepared in different ways. I still haven't tried their Beefy King ramen with all the items on top! I did try their beefy seabura. I want to try here again especially the appetizers before they close this month.

The Good: * One of my favorite dishes is the cold chicken noodles with dipping sauce. It comes on a bed of freshly cut cucumbers & noodles if you wish. Literally is such a clean delicious dish. No one else makes this kind of dish. I highly suggest if you don't wanna eat ramen that day, but you want a good stack of noodles and protein. * The tan tan ramen is the basic good stuff that never gets old. * I have also tried the sour/spicy clear brother ramen and that was real interesting and good, but I gotta be in the mood for that one The Bad: * sometimes it's so busy! gotta wait for a table The Weird: * the menu is getting larrrrrrrrrge, screaming that the restaurant is run by Chinese really lol

Food was decent and Portion was reasonable. What I didn't like was how they kept coming up to our table and trying to take away our plate and bowl as if we were finish. Not once but 3x. Seriously, I still had ramen and char sui in my bowl. Let me finish!!!. It felt like they they were trying to rush us and mind you it wasn't busy at all. To add to it, when did they start automatically adding 15% gratitude for a party of 2. I get if its a big party but for 2 or even if by yourself is unbelievable. Save yourself the trouble and eat at another ramen spot. There is a few good ones around ala moana area or in the food court as well.
