Hi Yelpers! Back in Burlington for today. How to break my 12 hour fast? Felt taco like for lunch... I stumbled on Hola Cafe and Market on Skip. I always asked and wandered what an empanada tasted like. I ordered a chicken empanada. It was honestly disappointing. I'm just not use to that style of a thin crust, hard textured shell with a not so tastes filling. The best empanadas I've tasted so far are made by Filipinos. But, to Rachel's own right? I just prefer more taste. I also tried their Hola Pantacones. It is a flatted green plantain that is fried and topped off with shredded tip sirloin, Colombian bacon, mozorella cheese, guacamole and gold sauce. This can definitely feed two people, large portion. Same thoughts applies to this like the empanada. What made this tasteful was the sauce. The sauce saved it in my opinion. If there weren't sauce then it would be bland to me. The crispy ness of the plantain was extremely crisp, like a cracker. Overall the price wasn't bad at all. Really affordable. Thanks Yelpers! read more

My first impression of this place upon walking in was that it was a very cute cafe with its white wall interior and wooden elements all around. There were plants outside the front door and sprinkled throughout the cafe, which made it feel homey and inviting. The large cafe menus on the wall and the little signs by the take out food items were also cute - great attention to detail! There were so many choices of food to eat that it was hard to decide what to get! I ended up getting the beef Columbian empanada, chicken pastillito, and cheese ball (buenolo). In my opinion, the cheese ball was the stand out from these items with the empanada as the second best item. The cheese ball was flavourful and had the perfect amount of fried dough with cheese flavoring. The empanada was stuffed with lightly seasoned meat enveloped in a light corn dough shell and it was decent with the hot sauce (more like salsa). The chicken pastillito (unsure of the spelling) was the least flavourful and really needed the hot sauce. Even the fried dough couldn't save it from being the one I liked least from the items. It all cost about $6 something which was very reasonable. The only other con was that the staff were not the warmest this afternoon and not really that helpful with explaining what was inside each item. Not sure if it was partly the language barrier but still felt like the customer service could be slightly improved. Other than that, I feel like this place may be worth a second try if I'm in the area again. read more

Cute Latino café / grocery corner in Burlington! I wish there were places like this closer to me. I believe owners are from Columbia. Interior is very cozy, warm, and welcoming! Based on a quick glance at the posted menu (permanent) and the Specials (written on brown craft paper), Specials seem to be better value as you get more than one thing and some items were cheaper than an arepa. I didn't see the portion sizes, so that may be something to consider as well. Hola Café offers snacky-type foods like empanadas, pastelillos, bunuelos (cheeseballs), arepas, patacones, & then more complete dishes. There was no drink menu, so I had to ask the nice man behind the counter. I got a Chicken Arepa + an Americano. I loved the sauce that came with the arepa, but without it, the chicken itself was on the bland side. So I wished the sauce was more evenly distributed. The chunky casava fries were delicioso! I'd definitely stop here again if I was in the area. read more

When I was told that we were going hiking nearby, the first thing I did was to search what food was available in the area. Hola's was the perfect destination to fill up after a 2-hour hike. The lady at the counter was very welcoming, introducing us to a variety of Hola's offerings with explanations and photos on a tablet. We went with a chicken arepa and Hola's patacon. The arepa is fairly small at $12, but is actually quite hefty in hand. The flavour was subtle, a mild cheesy chicken. The hot sauce provided steps it up, adding a bit of a tang. The patacon was the show stopper - I'd planned to grab a few empanadas after seeing the size of the boxes and our post-hike appetites...but no need. What's better than this: fried green plantains topped with beef, chicharron (FRIED PORK BELLY), guacamole, and some kind of magic cilantro sauce. Think super-sized tostones supreme. We'll definitely come by again to try out the empanadas and pastelitos, and for the patacon and friendly welcome. read more

Wonderful place. Stumbled upon it when I took a wrong turn onto this street and was pleasantly surprised. I had an deep fried empanada and a cornbread thing stuffed with mozzarella with their house made fresh hot sauce. I also had the churros that came with a side of chocolate and caramel sauce. Food was overall good. The place itself is so cute, warm and cozy. It has lots of tables and had a high chair (which is key to know for families with little ones). Really hope this place does well, it's a bit unassuming but is a real gem. Seemed to be frequented by many Latin people to buy items from the market side or to take food to go. Almost everyone spoke Spanish (English too) but it gave a real sense that it's a go to spot for those looking for Latin food. Staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. Dropped into this cafe by chance since we were looking for empanadas and we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere in the cafe is very cute, warm and inviting. Wish we could have stayed to eat the food but because of covid that isn't possible. The service was awesome. The empanadas were delicious we got beef and chicken and we also tried the cheese and chicken pasteles. They came with a corriander/sour cream sauce as well as a mild hot sauce which was very tasty! They had lots more offer in terms of desserts but we got there towards closing time. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area and want some tasty latin food. read more

If you want to try truly Latin American food this is the correct place. I'm from Mexico and I always struggle to find corn tortillas and chorizo, here a was able to find them, the price was really good and the quality too, arepas and desserts are amazing. read more

Great little taste of Latin atmosphere. Empanadas are fantastic and the lattes are great. Service is very good. Daily food specials look so good but honestly are lacking in flavour. There is a variety of spice and sauces available for purchase which are fantastic for home cooking. read more

Went her for the first time on Mother's Day. We brought our two young kids. They loved the empanadas, we loved the Hola arepa. And we all loved the churros. Really nice environment and reasonable prices. We will definitely come back. read more
