The entire building including the rooms have creaky floors and oversold decor when examining the decor shown in pictures. We requested no housekeeping when asked at check-in, but still had people knocking the next day. The beds are uncomfortable, old and collapsed as seen in the images which doesn't help sleeping at all. The fitted sheets don't fit the mattresses which is uncomfortable. The rooms themselves are also very dirty in corners, edges and crevices, and clearly hadn't been cleaned in months. What added to our distain, which wasn't the hotels fault, were the constant construction sounds from outside which started at the crack of dawn every day, amplified more than expected due to the single glazing in the rooms. I'd have chosen another hotel if I could do it over, but it's good to know for next time

The Met is a long standing traditional hotel in a stunning Grade II listed building. That gives it loads of character that other hotels in the city lack. It's also been recently refurbished inside, so it's elegance from start to finish. So we've established it's got the looks, has it got the moves to back itself up? On my experience it has. Good customer service and very willing staff make my stay even more enjoyable. If you need something (within reason and legal), then just ask and they'll do their best for you. I was tempted to try for a giraffe and a trumpet but I thought I may get ejected. It's not the cheapest; if you want cheap then you know where the travel lodge is. Having said that it's not stupidly priced either. Plus it is a lovely stay and you deserve to spoil yourself from time to time. Go on, you know you want to!

The breakfast was also incredible, traditional English breakfast with plenty of selection for everyone. - Price - very reasonable for a nice facility! - Staff - great staff at the desk and Stable Pub. Took great care of us and responsive. The manager in the Stable was great and made us feel at home. Cons: - Room - incredibly small. While comfortable and had basic amenities, but our room was very small. The bathroom was also very basic with the smallest shower I have ever seen. The amenities are nonexistent. The soap was a squeeze bottle mounted to the wall with the shower having a combination "hair/body" wash. - Air Conditioning - fortunately it wasn't terribly hot but found the air conditioning in common struggled to keep things cool. This was common in all areas including the wedding and reception as well as Stable Pub. The room had a potable fan because there was no air conditioning. We weren't in the room during the day but it was warm at night. The beauty and staff at the property made it great. The facilities are very nice but be forewarned about some of the idiosyncrasies. I'd recommend but likely ask for a bigger room and a bath with a tub and shower.

So, as a wedding venue it was really good. It was actually my first wedding so I don't really have anything to compare to, but the service was streamlined and lovely - a special highlight was the bride coming down the isle to a wonderful acoustic version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow - it felt like a Wes Anderson film! But everything went perfectly smoothly, all of the staff were excellent and there were no hiccups whatever. The meal was probably a 4/5, but I didn't really care by that point! The evening entertainment was basically a not huge dancefloor with some decent pop songs and a few random awesome choices (Crazy Crazy Nights - get in!!!). So as an alternative to a church wedding, this was rather excellent. Now, from the 1:30pm start, the night went on and on after the scheduled entertainment, into the bar area and reception area until maybe 4-5am for a couple of us. One thing that we benefitted from was the presence of other random guests staying at the hotel who hadn't been there long and so still fancied a drink when most had gone to bed! For this, the bar selection was pretty decent. Lot's a variety in the spirits department, and a couple of good draught drinks - I was mostly on draught Budweiser, which I don't see very often. Also, at £3.50 the price could have been a lot worse! Anyway, the room was clean and spacious, with a really big, comfortable bed. Breakfast was surpringly awesome as well - a couple of different types of sausages and hash browns for example for a bit of variety. Of course, I couldn't finish what I'd started and had to go back to bed for an hour before leaving, but all in all it was an excellent experience, and one which I'd love to do again. Oh and they have both giant Jenga and giant Connect 4 in the garden - and who doesn't love them?!?!

Prime location for walking the city walls, the Shambles, and more. Our room was tiny but there was room to prop suitcases on the desk and luggage rack. The bathroom was nice and modern and a good size in comparison to the room. Breakfast was included and I enjoyed coffee, yogurt and fruit. Some of the items on the breakfast line weren't available such as the breakfast lemon cake. Our only problem was that there was no hot water for showering in the morning!! Apparently there was a power outage in the middle of the night and hot water was not restored yet. When we checked out in the morning they were very nonchalant about it and didn't even really apologize for the inconvenience. They just stated the fact that it was out. It was definitely disappointing to not be able to start our day with a hot shower.

Despite being a Diamond Member, I was not able to be upgraded to a suite on this occasion. Fair enough, they were busy and must have sold out but the difference between a suite and regular or Deluxe room at the hotel seems to be too large. Starting with the positives, the location is great, as it ever was, it's right in the city centre, it's so close to Leeds Station that you can see the trains and platforms from your window, and the noise-proofing from outside is good meaning you shouldn't be disturbed by the noise from the train. The staff here are also super friendly and were helpful with any requests that I did have, including granting a late 2 PM check-out. The king-size bed was also very comfortable, and the pillows were as good as ever, unlike some Hilton-branded properties which seem to have downgraded their pillows. I stayed in a King Deluxe Room on this occasion, I was on the 10th floor, and I managed to get a room on the corner, so the view should have been great, although the blinds restricted this, it was a double curtain but there was no string to open and close them, so it would constantly get caught around the corner, they would have been much better having two smaller blinds for each window, with a string for each. The room was a little basic and ordinary, it looked pretty much the same as other rooms I've stayed in at other properties such as the Doubletree at Manchester Piccadilly and Hilton Garden Inn at Birmingham Brindleyplace. The facilities inside the room had pretty much the basic essentials such as a desk, kettle and fridge. There wasn't a coffee machine and the TV was wall mounted so I couldn't connect my fire stick. The bedside tables were tiny and didn't give me enough storage space. While there was a small coffee table, the seats weren't too comfortable and there wasn't a comfortable place to sit, with a choice of hard chairs or the bed. There was only one bed-side plug socket which was very low down on one side of the bed only, and I had to unplug the alarm. There was no USB charging. The air conditioning was particularly loud, due to the cold Winter weather that we're currently facing in England, I had to have the heating on full, but the noise in the room would be between 50 and 60 DB for the heating alone, so it'd be impossible to sleep with it on. It also took a little while to get hot water from the bathroom, which could be down to being on the 10th floor which is the highest floor of rooms out of the 13 at the hotel. If you're staying at the hotel, you should also be aware of the ongoing work inside the hotel, this was not warned to me at any time, meaning at 9 am, I was woken up by loud banging on my floor with a hammer, which turned into of drilling, not too long after - again I get they have to work on the floors, and the rooms could do with a slight refit to bring them into 2024, but why isn't this being informed to guests at the point of booking or check-in? Guests at the hotel should also be aware of a £50 card hold placed on the card when checking in, this was annoying for me as I only have a debit card and it always seems to take 30 days to reverse meaning I can't use the funds in the meantime. I find it so unnecessary. 3* - Comfortable beds in a great location with fantastic service but everything else falls short. I would consider returning to the hotel again, but I'd wait for the construction to finish and probably just pay the fee to upgrade to a suite, rather than relying on a free availability-based upgrade as a Diamond Member.

A nice addition would be robes. Just to make your feel extra snuggly and special. My room was also fully equipped with an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, tea kettle, teas, coffee, milk, sugar, mugs, glasses and spoons. A nice mini fridge with two bottles of water inside. Also very good air conditioning. Nice flat screen tv with loads of channels. A table and chairs. Also very nice room service. The bed is good, but the pillows are great! I went as far as to get the name and I've already ordered two! I couldn't give 5 stars because they have cards in the room that state how we should be aware of not being too loud and keeping the noise to a minimum. No loud talking in the hall and keep the tv low etc. But every single day I was there (3 days) the housekeeping staff slam the doors non stop. They start pretty early and it is loud and disturbing if you're trying to sleep. The other noise factor is the Sky Bar which I believe is on the top floor - so if you're on one of the top floors like I was, you're going to get some noise bleed. But all in all, I recommend this hotel. It's near everything, as soon as you step outside. I would definitely stay here again. Also, the prices are very reasonable.

The hotel is housed in a stunning deco-themed space and the rooms here are extremely well-equipped and spacious bordering on the obscene if you're a single business traveller. Staff are polite, efficient and helpful, which is all you can ask for. In terms of refreshments there are options for eating and drinking in your room or at the hotel bar and restaurant, I've found both options to be perfectly good, although if you have the time please venture further afield!

I mention this because the Grand has a sustainability focus and encourages guests to re-use towels, which we did: more hooks are needed. The reading lamps on the headboard did not work. The major problem we had was the temperature of our room: the thermostat read 16 but it was more like 20; too warm for sleeping. I called down to reception and concierge and there was no answer - multiple times - I think perhaps the phones were malfunctioning. I reached an operator who said she'd leave a note as she was leaving in five minutes. I went down to the front desk and the staff member told me she could adjust it from a control panel in the lobby (?), however, the room stayed too warm. This definitely took away from the experience as I didn't sleep well and expected better from a five star hotel. Lastly, and this is small, but the greenery out front (topiaries and flowers) and in the hallways are plastic, again, not five star. For a hotel focused on sustainability, natural plants would be much more suitable.

It was smothered with a salty water sauce that supposedly was a beef gravy. The desserts were even more dreadful. As a trained pastry chef - the chocolate cake tasted like corrugated cardboard that was picked up in the desert . Also breakfast , every place we stayed on had wonderful Greek yogurt at breakfast, this place served watered down "country yogurt " that was never filled enough to get a bowl. I would not recommend a group tour staying h here. Everyone in our group agreed that the mattresses and pillows were simply the worst of our entire trip. Also we had a drink before dinner and sat outside - every table was piled up with dirty dishes and glasses and bottles . No one was clearing tables for the entire 45 minutes that we sat outside on the patio. Too many lovely places to stay instead of York Marriott.
